Re: [WISPA] What happened to my RooTenna?

2008-12-30 Thread Mike Hammett
Here is my current assessment:

The cable going down was ripped out of its holders and at one place was
ripped in half.

I'm thinking that the ice gave way (this was after an ice storm) and the
weight of the ice on the cable flexed the back of the case.

I secured the new cable in more locations this time.

If the cable is stretched too, it's probably roofers.

If some object hit it, there is probably some paint rubbing, gouge, or
scratch evidence.

Sure the venue hasn't changed to a RC Airplane race track :-) Looks like it
got hit by a minature 747. :-)

Only answer I could fathom is Vandalism. Most likely, the first outage may
not have occurred at the time of first dmaage. Very possible, it was a night
vandal, and it just took a while for the wind to finish the job, to the
exposed radio.

Alternatively, a low flying Crow having a head on colission. Any feathers at

Can't speak for the link that Brian provided for myself, not sure if they're

I'll post a couple more pictures once I get them from the customer, but
I went over to look at their CPE today because their service was down.
It looks like someone ran it over with a Mack truck, only it is on a
roof of a large building (used to be indoor RC race track). How the
heck could this have happened?

Did someone try to play Tarzan with the ethernet cable perhaps? The
"impact"(?) seems to be centered around the ethernet port like someone
yanked on it really hard.

Just a guess.

No way. Someone just grabbed the outside and started twisting and racking
the mount, see the way it's pulled out. Then the plastic broke. Look for

I really don't know but maybe a big burst of wireless traffic caused the
circuit board to expand suddenly and bust through the shell. Betcha that
link wasn't throttled was it?
