RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] WiFi SIP phones

Did you tie the DLINK into your VoIP system?

We are currently running Nortel for our VoIP deployment.

Thanks,

We purchased and tested a few different Wireless SIP phones, although none are
ruggedized.

Out of the models we purchased we found we preferred the D-Link.

This is what we tested.

WIP330 Linksys WIP330 WIFI IP Phone
DPH-540 D-Link DPH-540 802.11b/g WIFI SIP Phone (BLACK)
F1000 G UTStarcom F1000 G WIFI VOIP Phone WLAN 802.11B/G
P-2000W Zyxel P-2000W v2 VoIP Wi-Fi Phone - Version 2

We are looking for a WiFi SIP phone to deploy to students in the field for
communication with each other and supervisors.  Something that is ruggedized
would be preferred, but we are considering the Linksys WIP330 as an option.  We
have an Asterisk server that the phone can use, but we would also like the
ability for the phone to call each other by IP address, independent of a server.

Any suggestions on models and places to purchase them?

Thanks,

Nathan

Are you seeing issues with the Iphone on your campus? What types of
problems? Are you supporting Iphones? Other mobile devices?

The largest issue we found with the iPhone was trying to figure out how
to get our internal CA certificate into it's trusted list. It was
determined that this needed to be done on the desktop and then sync'ed
to the iPhone.

Otherwise, no issues thusfar (ignoring the theft/compromised data issues
with all portables).

We loosely support all mobile devices. We have a few staff members
using the Nokia 770/800/810 devices with much success.

Thanks,
Brian

RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] WiFi SIP phones

2008-08-18 Thread Greg Gardner
We did tie it in to our phone system, but it was a bit of a back door. We are
in the process of upgrading our Avaya system and don't yet have native sip
capability so one of our engineers used SIP Express Router
http://www.iptel.org/ser/ and a repurposed Cisco dial-in router tied to the PBX
with QSIG. It worked for testing purposes since our goal was to investigate the
wifi side of the equation. Things like what happens to a call using
authenticated encrypted wifi when you migrate between AP's.

Thanks,

Greg Gardner
