RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] WiSM 6.0.182.0

2009-08-20 Thread Garry Peirce
More germane to the subject, I meant to add that we began to upgrade to
6.0.182 since released without issue. I've a handful of APs using HREAP on
these controllers (traffic is locally switched) as well.

RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] WiSM 6.0.182.0

2009-08-20 Thread Garry Peirce
Might you have proxy-dhcp enabled (is by default) on the controllers?
I ran into bug CSCsx96815 when I went to 5.2.157 in the past which caused
clients to not receive an address (the virtual address was corrupted through
an upgrade).

2009-08-20 Thread Dennis Xu
Peter,

After we upgraded to 6.0, I double checked the HREAP APs configurations and I
found all of them lost the "VLAN Mapping" configuration. This problem happened
to my previous upgrades before a few times so I always double check HREAP APs
configurations after upgrade. I had to manually reconfigure the VLAN Mappings
for all HREAP APs. Not sure if that is the problem for you. So far, I haven't
heard any complains from our HREAP users after the upgrade.

I received a report of not getting an ip address on a student computer
yesterday. It took a repair, and a release renew but it eventually got one.
When I have had this problem on previous releases it has been an old wireless
driver or their computer was messed up with a lot of spyware.

Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] WiSM 6.0.182.0

2009-08-13 Thread Dennis Xu
We have upgraded our three WISMs and 450 APs from 5.2.178.0 to 6.0.182.0. The
only issue we have found is different APs change channels at different times.
When I look at the logs and "Airewave Director" debugs, the channel changes
always happen because of interferences. The reason seems reasonable because of
the interference. But why it didn't happen before in 5.2.178? Is the 6.0 code
more aggressive in detecting interferences? Has anybody seen this behavior as
well?

Thanks,

Dennis

I've been running 6.0.182.0 since it released with nothing but positive results.

Pretty much everything (bug fix wise) that was put in 5.2.193 was rolled into
6.0.182.0. I've been working with Cisco WNBU for about a year on various items,
especially the radio code, and the last engineering build I had (what 5.2.193
is based on) was rock solid. As soon as 6.0.182.0 was released, I immediately
moved to it as I have plans to introduce the 5508 controllers into my mix and I
also wanted to leverage/test the new "Client Link" (Legacy client beam
forming). Again, given the history between the two builds, I expected no
issues, and that's been the case.

I have to say that both 6.0.182.0 and 5.2.193 represent a major turning point
in the quality of Cisco's code. The development teams really focused on
improving the radio code quality as well as stomping out critical bugs within
the controllers. WCS also got a lot of attention including a much improved user
interface.

Both builds offer vastly improved radio code for the 1252 and 1142 802.11n APs.
If you have these in your environment, then this new code is worth it.

Given the choice, I'd go to 6.0.182.0. It's as stable as 5.2.193 but you get
all the new features and WCS improvements.

best,
Jeff

2009-08-05 Thread Jim Glassford

Hi,

We have problems with static assigned IP address APs, when they loose
connection to the network. Some access points will go back to requesting
dhcp leases, ignore their assigned static IP address. Only way to bring
them back is to power off/on, or give them a dhcp IP address and then
reboot them. Access Point will then go back to their assigned static IP
address, do not have to code it again, just reboot it. It seems random
on the time before they revert back to dhcp, Cisco TAC said it should be
four hours, "a feature" but I have had them do it in less than an a hour.

I was told Cisco has CSCsz53516 for this and no workaround yet. I saw
this feature in 5.2.178, bug ID listed in release notes for 5.2.193 and
6.0.182.0

Yes, we have been running it for about a month with minor problems. This is
what I've seen so farWhen our Catalyst 6500 shut off without notice almost
all of the APs we had powered by inline power injectors had to be manually
rebooted. The other ones connected to an inline power needed to be powered
cycled as well. We did not lose all of our APs on campus, but at least half of
them had to be either manually power cycled or cycled through the command line.
I never had this problem before up until the point of the new controller code.
Another minor change with version 6.0.182.0 is the WLAN override option has
changed. It is now configured under WLANs-Advanced-AP Groups. Other than that
it seems to be pretty solid code and from what I heard it is a candidate for
the assurewave program.

Hi Dennis,

We have just completed upgrading to 6.0 . Will let you know how it goes. We
have 4 Wisms and 460 aps. We upgraded WCS to 6.0 and the interface is much
better then previous versions.

Peter.

2009-08-05 Thread James Nesbitt

Dennis,

After the security vulnerability notice (http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/707/cisco-sa-20090727-wlc.shtml
) we looked at it, but our Cisco rep has advised us to move to
5.2.193.0 instead. We have 13 WiSMs and 6 4400's supporting 2800+
access points.
