Yes. In case anyone missed the other responses you need to stop
authenticating using your Google account and switch to another account
before April 20. I've added a notice to the login page.

In the near term we need to find a list of stable OpenID 2.0 providers
that we can recommend on the login page. In the long term we need to
find a more stable way of authenticating to Gerrit.

And is there any possibility of Gerrit supporting Open ID 2.0 Connect
which is what Google+ supports and seems to be the future for Open ID?
The Gerrit issues tracker is very confusing on this.

I'm not sure. The closest thing I've seen so far was a change to add
GitHub OAuth support but it was abandoned:

From those threads it seems that the GitHub OAuth 2.0 patch was abandoned
as it wasn't pluggable, and that they are going to come back with a
pluggable version.

It also seems that they will have to support OAuth 2.0 in general (which
Google+ can be configured to work as), as that's where everyone is heading
according to the list in one thread.

Re: [Wireshark-dev] Google deprecating OpenID 2.0

2015-02-23 Thread Roland Knall
Further looked into this issue. On the Google Page (
https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=2715) there is a detailed
description on how to link a new identity. I followed that to the letter.
And still ending up creating a second account (with launchpad), both having
the same e-mail address. As you cannot easily delete an user account, this
is not an ideal solution. There is a script (although for PG) mentioned,
which would be able to merge Gerrit accounts:
https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/wiki/SqlMergeUserAccounts although how
comfortable and more importantly secure this method seems, I do not know.

So, going forward, should accounts be merged manually or should I move to
the new account?

I also had one more question in this regard: Basically all I needed was an
active account once. As long as my old account is not deleted, I should be
able to use the pure ssh interface to upload patches and comment on them
(using the ssh -p 29418 code.wireshark.org gerrit review command).

So, although I would not be able to use the website anymore, the account is
still valid.

regards,
Roland

This was my fault. I added a custom login page to our Gerrit
installation because the default for the version we're running (2.8)
only lists Google and Yahoo!. Although it supported account creation it
didn't properly support account linking. It's been fixed.

So, going forward, should accounts be merged manually or should I move

I can merge any duplicate accounts. If you have duplicate accounts and

Hi,
to get Your profile identificator on g+, You need to go to Your profile

I'm not sure, but I think there was some way to make it human friendly. But
it might be for more important users only (companies etc.)

Same here. I tried to link a Launchpad account to the existing one, and he
created a new one instead. I accept, that this might be a Gerrit issue, and
has nothing to do with Wireshark in general. But in my local installation I
fixed it via adding the identity locally using the ssh gerrit interface.
Have not tried that online yet, but I am pretty sure, that we will lack the
rights to do so.

 From the link given above:

 * You are already registered and you are using Google OpenID provider: You
need to move to a new provider before April 20, 2015.

Migrating away from Google OpenID and linking multiple OpenIDs

When you already registered with Google, you need to link your existing
Gerrit account to another OpenID provider to be able to log in to Gerrit
 after April 20, 2015.

Note: if you don't use Google as your OpenID provider, (or use say
Fedoraproject, Launchpad, ...), you don't need to take any action.

The exact steps how to link another identity to an existing account (please
re-read twice before taking any action):

 * Login with the existing account
 * Select menu Settings → Identities
 * Click the 'Link Another Identity' button
 * Select the OpenID provider for the other identity
 * Authenticate with the other identity
 * Log in using the other identity can only be performed after the linking is
 successful

 *Warning I*

Users wishing to link an alternative identity should *NOT* log in separately
with that identity. Doing so will result in a new account being created, and
subsequent attempts to link that account with the existing account will
fail. In cases where this happens, the administrator will need to manually
 merge the accounts.

 *Warning II*

You must link another identity before April 20, 2015. Otherwise you wouldn't
be able to log in to your existing Gerrit account.

So what other sources of identity can we use?

Can I use my public key?

  * Select the OpenID provider for the other identity
  * Authenticate with the other identity
  * Log in using the other identity can only be performed after the
 linking is
  successful

  *Warning I*

Users wishing to link an alternative identity should *NOT* log in
 separately
with that identity. Doing so will result in a new account being created,
 and
subsequent attempts to link that account with the existing account will
fail. In cases where this happens, the administrator will need to
 manually
  merge the accounts.

  *Warning II*

You must link another identity before April 20, 2015. Otherwise you
 wouldn't
be able to log in to your existing Gerrit account.

So what other sources of identity can we use?

Can I use my public key?
