It is MSI's default behavior to choose the disk with the most space. Try
capitalizing the property to TARGETDIR.

It's acceptable to include the same components (your Java components) in two

Re: [WiX-users] Burn: Prerequisites on Windows 2012 Server and the Server Manager requirement

2013-02-05 Thread Neil Sleightholm
I think that is probably related to burn being 32 bit and dcim running from 64
bit system folder so the current environment is not passed to the process. May
be the code could support expansion of a [SystemFolder64] property.

For me, running dism.exe only worked if I put in the full path. Not sure why
that is.

Hi,
I did some testing and it looks like you can control which shortcuts appear on
the main start menu with shortcut properties, otherwise windows will decide on
its own which appear on the main menu.

System.AppUserModel.StartPinOption
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/jj553605(v=vs.85).as
px) allows you to force your shortcut not to appear on the main start menu.
There also seems to be a bug on windows 7 where you get a pop up warning
dialogue if you use these properties by name so you have to use the guid format.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2745126

I don't see an option anywhere to force your shortcut to be displayed in the
start menu though.

Example from my test:-

If you can call ExeRunner.exe, why can't you call dism.exe directly?

[WiX-users] Setting ARPNOMODIFY fails on Change install

2013-02-05 Thread McCain, Jon
Greetings.

I have run into a scenario where I want to disable the ability to run a Change
install from Add/Remove Programs and the MaintenanceTypeDlg after all available
Features have been installed. This works fine if all Features are selected
during the initial install but if a single feature is selected and then the
last feature installed with a Change install it fails.

I have tried setting the ARPNOMODIFY property via Custom Actions set throughout
the InstallExecuteSequence and InstallUISequence on its own, through a Publish
event within the Dialog* in which the Features are selected, as well as even a
custom action that uses C++ to add the NoModify DWORD value to the products
UNINSTALL/ registry key. I have tried these methods along with
having UAC enabled and disabled.

*The Dialog I am using is a custom Feature selection dialog. The install sets
up 1 to 2 web applications/sites along with allowing Application Name and
Application Pool custom names to be specified. By using a custom dialog I
reduced the need to have multiple dialogs to handle the above configuration.

Another item I noted was that UAC prompts do not appear when I run a Change
install from the MaintenanceTypeDlg.

Can anyone offer some guidance here as I'm at my wits end on this one?

Thanks so much.

Regards,
Jon

Re: [WiX-users] FilesInUse message -- empty description

2013-02-05 Thread Peter Shirtcliffe
Have you seen this page ?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windows/desktop/aa371614%28v=vs.85%29
.aspx
Scroll down to "INSTALLMESSAGE_FILESINUSE"

The "files in use" error message is in the MSI's Error table (error 1603) and
could be changed with a wix element.

I'm not sure how the 2 tie together since the message only has placeholders
for 1 file but you might be able to work it out from there.

Subject: [WiX-users] FilesInUse message -- empty description

Hi All,

I'm using following code to show "file in use" message box in my custom
action:

session.Message(InstallMessage.FilesInUse, record);

I'm able to fill list of files which are in use using record, but dialog
description which should say "The following applications are using files..."
is empty.

Does anyone know how make dialog description visible or set the description
text?

Thanks,
Vasyl

Re: [WiX-users] Adding feature dependency

2013-02-05 Thread Rob Hamflett
You could make the Perl feature a child of the Java feature. It might
look a little strange on the Feature selection tree, but it should work.

[WiX-users] Msi is not creating in the Drive

2013-02-05 Thread Chaitanya
Hi,

Iam creating an MSI for Windows7 64 bit and Windows 2008 r2..Iam running
that Msi as "run as administrator" through command prompt.

My problem is when iam changing the drive through "WixUIInstallDir".its not
changing the drive where i want..

it is checking the drive which is having More free space

(Ex:in my 'C, drive iam having 248MB..in my 'E' if it is having 250MB means
it is going to 'E' drive)

when i run as command prompt as

msiexec targetdir=e:\ /i product.msi /L*exv log.txt

when i give this command it is wrkng well..

i don't know why Msi is checking free space..

tell me how to stop that...

I want my MSI to install where my Client want to install...

Thanks,

cbdic
