[WiX-users] Shortcut creation using WIX

2011-04-06 Thread Subhasree Ramesh

Hi All,

I found the WIX structure for shortcut entry in MSI.
I need some clarity on the attributes, Directory, WorkingDirectory, Icon and
IconIndex.

What needs to be the value for Directory and WorkingDirectory, if the shortcut
for App1.msi need to be under ProgramFilesMenu/StartMenu/Applications?

There is an Icon table which holds the Name and Data of icons.
What exactly need to be under this Data attribute?

A sample code will be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

[WiX-users] FW: Not able to read the Registry Key value of the MSI

2011-01-31 Thread Subhasree Ramesh

Hi,

I was trying to read the Registry Key value of MSI. Below is the code I used
for the same:

object[] o = null;
IList resultRegisteries = database.ExecuteQuery(Select Key FROM Registry, o);

On executing this code, I am getting the following exception:
SQL query syntax invalid or unsupported. Database:
D:\Projects\msiContents\AdobeReader_930\Package\AcroRead.msi. Column
'[Registry]' not present or ambiguous in SQL query: Select [Registry],[Key]
FROM Registry.

But I am able to read all the values of the Registry table (including the
values of Column 'Key') using the below code.
IList resultRegisteries = database.ExecuteQuery(Select * FROM Registry, o);

I understand that I am missing something on the syntax.
Can someone tell me the right syntax?

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Subhasree

Phil,
That works :-) Thank you

Thom,
Placing it in the square brackets or within quotes did not help.
There is a column by name Registry inside the Registry table. Since I need
the value of columns Key and Registry from the Registry table I had that
query.

 Not brackets or quotes, but in grave characters `Key` . Backtick, peckmark,
 backquote, whatever that thing gets called in your locale.

 Is Key a keyword and therefore needs to be placed in square-brackets or
 quotes?

 I'm confused though - why does the error say that your query is SELECT
 [Registry], [Key] FROM Registry but your query is only SELECT Key FROM
 Registry? *shrug*
