An immediate CA can access the MSI database tables directly. Perhaps you can store the config file in the Binary table. I am trying to see if it is possible to update Properties from values within a config file. Therefore a deferred custom action is not appropriate as I will not have full access to the properties, but I want to package the config file within the installer package and therefore a packaged file will not be available on disk at the point that an immediate custom action is executed. In a nutshell I understand that any files will not be on the file system when an immediate custom action is executed, but is there a way of storing (and accessing) the file some other way? You could store the config file in the binary table as a dependency for the MSI to run.
