As for Kix' question, I think that a perfectly working feature should not be removed just because someone is annoyed by it (there was only one bug report so it seems most people were OK with it except the one who sent the bug report). For the same reason there's no need to change the default and the few people who don't like it can change their Prefs easily. The same grab also happens when resizing windows. What would you do about that? If you want to avoid the freeze in display when just pressing the mouse button without moving it then you might try to move the start of the grab to the first Motion event like it's done when resizing a window. Background menu, use keep the aspect ratio by default
