[WSG] positioning problem

2004-09-01 Thread Barbara Dozetos
Hi all,
Could someone take a look at this page: www.vtimms.org/providers/
We can't figure out what we're doing wrong with the positioning. We
want the 'box' div to expand to hold the 'content' div.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Barb

Re: [WSG] Does anybody know an expandable vertical css/js menu based on uls?

2004-07-08 Thread Barbara Dozetos
Not sure if this meets all your requirements, but I'm loving the menu
presented in Eric Meyer's latest More Eric Meyers on CSS. I'm working
with it on a test page now. The page is constantly being fiddled with,
but you can look at the nav here: www.pcc.com/testing/client2.html.

I highly recommend both of the Meyers on CSS books.

I'd love to have a solution that opens a sublevel-ul when clicked on a
toplevel navigation item. It would need 4-5 sublevels...
I know this is a lot to ask for, but maybe somebody knows a
webstandard - konform solution to that bugger ;)

Thanks alot in advance!

[WSG] a z-index problem? maybe

2004-05-19 Thread Barbara Dozetos
This is a testing ground for me -- obviously. I am trying to implement
the hover/pop-up menus as demonstrated in More Eric Meyers on CSS and I
can't quite figure out how to get the pop-outs to appear on top of the
center div, rather than disappearing behind it. The third level of nav
can't be seen at all.

Help, anyone?

I would say that tabular calendar data is a classic candidate for
table markup, you'll need some advanced table styling skills:

[WSG] list 'buttons' in IE

2004-05-06 Thread Barbara Dozetos
Hi folks --
I asked about this yesterday, but got no response. In the hopes that my
question got lost in the crowd, I'm trying again.

In IE, my list buttons are showing up with padding that I don't want,
due, I believe to if/else statements in the coding. As you can see from
this page: http://www.pcc.com/benchmark/clinical.html IE adds space I
don't want. It works fine in FF. Any ideas?

[WSG] positioning 101

2004-04-30 Thread Barbara Dozetos
You have all been so patient and immensely helpful as I've waded through
the creation of the new section of our site. Here I go again --

This is probably only going to reveal my total lack of understanding the
basics of CSS positioning, but you're such generous teachers, I'm going
to just go out on a limb and reveal my ignorance.

Here's a sample page:
www.pcc.com/benchmark/
The challenge (s):
1) keep the page as 'liquid' as possible
2) make the #navcontainer and #rh-col line up at the top edges,
regardless of how deep the #hdr div gets when someone decides to
increase font-size.
3) maintain a minimum width on the #rh-col so images that appear in some
of the other pages using the same layout don't get messed up. (I think
the min-width should be about 450px)

I'm getting the feeling that there's something very basic about absolute
vs relative positioning that I am just missing.

Thanks in advance for all advice.

[WSG] need another set of eyes

2004-04-27 Thread Barbara Dozetos
Have a problem that's making me batty and I hope all I need is someone

Two pages linked to the same print style sheet - (different screen style
sheets but only the colors are different)

The printed version is working exactly as we want it to on
www.pcc.com/pub/pm/7step.html, but in www.pcc.com/benchmark/ is not
picking up #printhd and is leaving a border around the #rh-col.

I'll be quite grateful if someone can spot the problem for me.

Re: [WSG] print headers/footers

2004-04-26 Thread Barbara Dozetos
I've done that with a header for the print version only, but because we
can't reliably control page breaks, I'm lost on how to make sure our
logo shows up on each printed page. All is fine if it prints out to
only one page, or even two, because I can use both a header and a
footer, but the pages in between are left without the logo.

Any ideas?

Bert Doorn wrote:
Hi Barbara
The easiest way, for me, was to add the header in a paragraph or div at the
bottom of the page, hiding it in the display style sheet and displaying it
in the print style sheet.
See my site www.betterwebdesign.com.au for an example (do a print preview on
any page - quite different from onscreen layout).
I don't believe CSS can insert content itself - it's about presentation.
You may find a hack that will interact with the browser's page setup, but
I'm not aware of any and it will depend on the browser used.

No, you're just seeing the result of a server-side include there. IE
doesn't have a problem with that, or none of our Web site would ever
work. :)

Is there something about right margins, maybe? The div that creates the
far left column with the logos in it works fine with left, right and top
properties. I've tried replacing the 'width' property in the two divs
that aren't working with a right property, but that isn't working, either.

Thanks! Believe me, I know there's lots more to be dealt with. I
inherited this site when I took the job and found that there had been no
single person in charge of the site. We're definitely starting from
scratch with a redesign, but we have to keep putting bandaids on the
existing site until that's ready to go.

Again, thanks a million for finding my problem. I would NEVER have

This specific problem is caused by the nobr tag at the end of your

Plenty of other problems to fix after that. It may actually be easier
to start this site over from scratch rather than try to fix all the
problems. But if you want to fix it in place I'd recommend as a first
step looking at the validator
