If a site doesn't look as good under the limited spectrum, so what. If, however, it looks hideous, then maybe it's worth making adjustments. * The discussion list for http://webstandardsgroup.org/ See http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm for some hints on posting to the list & getting help *
Re: [WSG] Safe Web colors
I think this is a lowest common denominator issue. After the PDAs will come the phones and then the watches. For a while each of these new screen technologies will not display more than a limited number of colours. If you want your site to look as you intended to everybody using these relatively primitive screens then I can still see a place web-safe colours. I'd say it's a myth, unless you are going to limit yourself to 22 colors for some reason. This article: http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/00/37/index2a.html was written four years ago and still worth reading. Sure raise of PDAs may rise some questions too, but... But if your website is primarily visiited by computers that cant reach high color levels, then yeah. but otherwise its accessability shoshing over with design issues. the web safe color scheme is a good idea, pratical in some situations. I've never bothered with it.
