Well, in my case I have a "Conditional Comment" for [if lt IE 8] that's
supposed to make my h1 red if "true"; green if not. Now I installed IE 8
and not only IE 8 shows green (as expected) but in "Compatibility Mode"
it is green also. Same with all my stand-alones - green!

Under Windows 2000 I only have IE 6. The h1 is red, so the CC works here.

It looks like the version vector is changed across the board here--
perhaps there is something wrong with my installation. Does anyone else
have this problem?

Cordially,
David

IE6 on their machine.

Thanks Ben for the link, I am going to read it later.

Anybody use IE8 compatible mode to test IE7/6 instead of standalone version?

It doesn't cover IE6; and IE8-as-IE7 is not 100% the same as IE7 -
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2009/03/12/site-compatibility-and-ie8.aspx-
so you would still need to double-check standalone IE7 anyway to be
sure.
Personally I use Virtual PC for testing extra versions of IE.

[WSG] how reliable is it to use IE8 compatible mode to test IE7/6

Anybody use IE8 compatible mode to test IE7/6 instead of standalone
version?

There is an incentive for me to test older versions in compatible mode
because I can use Developer Tools, so I am curious how reliable it is,
I meant if problem I see in IE8 compatible mode is identical to IE7
or IE6 and once I have it fixed and it shows correctly in compatible
mode I don't need to double check on IE7/6 standalone to double confirm.

Thanks!
