Re: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X 2.3.0 sound card dongle issue

2021-02-04 Thread Ken Miller
I have had similar thing happen to me several times during new installs. I
found that in WSJT-X if I clicked on the sound card choice, (which says “Blank”
I think) it will show the correct sound card as a choice ….simply choose the
correct sound card and all is back to normal.

Hi Jim,

have you tried rebooting Windows. If that doesn't get your sound card
listed in WSJT-X "Settings->Audio" you can try deleting the sound card
device from Windows Device Manager (choose not to delete the drivers if
asked) and reboot which will re-install the drivers.

Re: [wsjt-devel] Feature Request - xmit below 200 hz

2019-02-20 Thread Ken Miller
Understand, I do not care if the thundering herd can not hear me. I TX
on the lower band edge to avoid QRM. Savvy DX operators and especially
SDR  operators will hear me, just trying to make my live a tiny bit
easier. I already tune down 200hz, it works, seems a bit clunky though. TNX

When transmitting that low, your signal is outside the RX bandwidth of
many transceivers that are tuned to the standard frequency. If you
want to do that anyway, simply tune your RX to 200 Hz lower than the
standard frequency.

[wsjt-devel] Feature Request - xmit below 200 hz

2019-02-20 Thread Ken Miller

Hi,

This is some great software, I have been enjoying it for years. I do
have a suggestion.

I like to utilize the lower portion of the FT8 bands down to 0 hz. I
usually VFO down 200 hz so as to bypass the 200hz lower TX limit. Since
I now own a SDR that has an adjustable TX bandwidth that goes to 0hz it
would be sweet to have a selectable option (buried anywhere) that could
disable the lower 200hz TX limit. Not a big thing, just something that
may make life a bit easier for people with SDRs.

Thanks

Re: [wsjt-devel] Still might be something strange with EA1FA Decodes v2.0.0-rc2

2018-09-26 Thread Ken Miller

Aww. Got it. Thanks Steve!

On 9/26/2018 2:55 PM, Steven Franke via wsjt-devel wrote:

Ken,

You are decoding frames that are being sent by someone who is still running
RC1. The person who is running RC1 is trying to send messages to EA1FA. The bug
in RC1 is such that whenever the first callsign in a message can be interpreted
as a valid hexadecimal number, it will send that first callsign as a
hexadecimal number in a telemetry message. People running RC2 will decode this
telemetry message and will display the hexadecimal number that it contains,
which is EA1FA in the examples that you are seeing.

In summary, what you are seeing is the result of a bug in the instance of
WSJT-X RC1 that is transmitting the message, and not due to a bug in your RC2
version of WSJT-X. The station that is transmitting the incorrect frames is not
EA1FA — it is someone who is trying to send a message to EA1FA.

Those incorrect messages should disappear once everyone moves to RC2 or newer
releases.

[wsjt-devel] EA1FA call sign - no decoded message or grid

2018-09-26 Thread Ken Miller
Using Win 10, 2.2.0-rc2 I5 quad core processor. It looks as EA1FA may be
having trouble decoding. The call is showing up with nothing but the
call sign in the decode window. I noticed this same thing yesterday on
rc-1 and thought it was the mentioned HEX number/Call sign problem. I
messaged  EA1FA and he said he was using RC-2.

[wsjt-devel] Possible WSJT-X 1.7 r7289 Split mode bug

2016-11-05 Thread Ken Miller
I use a Yaesu FT-991 and recently started evaluating the alpha build for
WSJT-X v1.7 this report is on r7289 but I think the previous alpha ones
have the same anomoly.

First; I can use WSJT-X 1.6.0 without any problems. With the v1.7 r7289;
Using JT65 and the 'Radio->Split Operation->Rig' setting, I transmitt
1000 hz higher on the lower portions of the waterfall. Example; I set
520 as TX/RX frequency and the TX goes out at 1520 while the TX/RX
indicators stay at 520. I set up a separate radio to verify this (a
FT-450D). If I use 'Fake It' or 'None' everything works. I do see the TX
VFO briefly switch down 1 kc but it immediately switches back up before
transmitting. The result is that I unknowinly transmitt on the wrong
frequency.

I don't know if it is something funny with the FT-991 or what. I did see
this as important enough to report though.
