webtools.webservices Committers,
Keith Chong has expired the commit rights for Kathy Chan (kchan). The
reason for this change is:

Updating the web services committer list to remove inactive members. It's
been about a year now that Kathy moved on to other areas. We thank her for
her many contributions to WTP.

To honor Kathy Chan's contributions to the project, Keith Chong has
nominated Kathy Chan for Committer Emeritus status.

Re: [wtp-dev] Proposal for new Webservices Project Lead

2009-03-04 Thread Kathy Chan
As David indicated, since I'm taking on other job responsibilities, I will
no longer be able to be the WTP Web services project lead and actively
participate in the WTP Web services project. I had really enjoyed working
on the WTP project in the last few years and would like to wish the WTP
project all the best! I will still be active in the Eclipse community
participating in the TPTP project.

I had worked with Keith Chong for many years and have confidence that he
would make a great WTP Web services project lead.

+1 for norminating Keith as the WTP Web services project lead.

[wtp-dev] Proposal for new Webservices Project Lead

Webservices committers,

As you all probably know, due to other job responsibilities, Kathy Chan
will no longer be able to be the Webservices Project Lead. She, and the
WTP PMC would like to recommend Keith Chong be named the new lead.

Keith has been involved with Eclipse WTP since its inception. He is
currently a committer on the Source Editing project and the Web services
project. He has implementing many enhancements and defects in those
projects. On the Web services project, he has worked on the WSDL Editor
and on the Web services wizards. He participates in WTP status meeting and
is active in the WTP community through writing tutorials and
documentation, carrying on discussions in the newsgroup and the project
wide distribution list.

According to the Eclipse Development Process, the Project Lead should be
confirmed by a vote of the committers of the Project on a mailing list.
Those eligible to vote are the following people. Please document your
support for Keith by joining me in voting +1.

Valentin Baciu
Kathy Chan
Keith Chong
Eric D. Peters
Peter Moogk

Lahiru Sandakith

[wtp-dev] Moving the org.eclipse.wst.command.env* plugins to web services project

2009-02-09 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

I'm proposing to move the command framework plugins from the
webtools.common project to the webtools.webservices project. These
plugins are:

- org.eclipse.wst.command.env
- org.eclipse.wst.command.env.core
- org.eclipse.wst.command.env.ui

These plugins contain the command framework used by the Web services tools
currently but could potentially be used by other components. That's why
they reside in the webtools.common project. These plugins were
contributed by developers who currently also work on the Web services
project and are maintained by them. Since these plugins are currently
only used by the Web services plugins (and I'm not aware of any team
planning to use that framework), I propose to move these plugins to
webtools.webservices project to make the effort in committing changes to
those plugins easier for these developers. Note that the
org.eclipse.wst.common.environment plugin which contains the environment
frameswork will remain in webtools.common since the J2EE team is actively
using it.

I've opened RFE 264262
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=264262) for making this
change. Please enter your comments there if you have any concern over
this move targetted for WTP 3.1 M6.

projects are too numerous to list here.

I'm sure that Keith would be a valuable asset to the Web services project
as a committer.

[wtp-dev] Read only files can't be overridden during java bean skeleton
generation

Hi All,

I?m having a problem generating a java bean skeleton from a wsdl file in
eclipse. Everything worked fine until I connected to subversion. Now I
get the errors below when generating the java files:

File /Axis2Project/META-INF/.svn/all-wcprops is read-only.
File / Axis2Project/META-INF/.svn/entries is read-only.

Has anyone had a similar problem when eclipse attempts to override these
read only files?

Although I've cleared up the JSDT versioning related failures in our 3.0.4

builds, the build is still consistently breaking

I'm not sure what's going on with the WebServices Axis-related test, but
the JSF Page Designer tests appear to either not be finishing or running
out of memory:
http://build.eclipse.org/webtools/committers/wtp-R3.0-M/2008121933/M-3.0.4-2008121933/testResults/html/org.eclipse.jst.pagedesigner.tests.AllTests.html

. Is there something that needs to change when running the Page Designer
tests? And is the WebServices failure being looked at?

Fw: [wtp-dev] wtp axis2 tutorial fails

2008-09-12 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi Ye,

Please note that wtp-dev is for the purpose of discussion issues related
to developing for WTP. Please use the WTP newsgroup for WTP usage
questions in the future.

So the short answer to your question is you would get 2 client files
generated if you use Axis2 v1.3 or newer but would get 6 files as
indicated in the original tutorial if you use Axis2 v1.2.

The more up-to-date version of the tutorial is at:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Creating_a_bottom-up_Axis2_Web_service

This is the current Axis2 tutorial link provided in the WTP tutorial page:

http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/new/new.php

The link you used was an old link and we'll have to redirect it to the new
page (yes, I just noticed that a few images are missing from the new
tutorial). We'll be fixing this up soon :).

[wtp-dev] wtp axis2 tutorial fails

Dear Alll:
I am using eclipse 3.4.0 jee-mac, with a update from wtp-3.0.1 online
repository.
I tried to follow the tutorial given in
http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/tutorials/BottomUpAxis2WebService/bu_tutorial.html

Unfortunately, after creating an "Axis2WSTestClient", instead of the
client java list shown via aforementioned tutorial, I noticed only two
java files are created (ConverterStub, ConverterCallbackHandler) by my
WTP.
Is this because of the new WTP/Axis2 version? Or something wrong with my
environment?
If it's a correct output of latest wtp/axis2, is there any tutorial based
on this version?

Thanks a lot!

Fw: [wtp-dev] IWAB0489E error with JBoss 4.2

2008-09-03 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi Sergey,

I tried the scenario you mentioned and ran into the same Axis deploy
problem as you found. This is what I see in the server console:

16:50:30,500 ERROR [MainDeployer] Could not initialise deployment:
file:/D:/servers/jboss-4.2.3.GA/server/default/deploy/j42bEAR.ear
org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException: No META-INF/application.xml
found

However, this seems to be a general problem with publishing to a JBoss 4.2
server with dynamic Web module 5.0 (EAR version 5.0). For example, if you
just create a simple HTML file and select "Run on server", you would also
see the same error about "application.xml not found in the EAR". Since
the application.xml file is supposed to be optional for EAR 5.0, it seems
like the JBoss server code cannot handle this configuration.

This problem does not occur if you create a dynamic Web project with
version 2.4 (Java version 1.4 or 5.0) targetting JBoss 4.2 (EAR version
1.4).

May be the J2EE team or JBoss server tooling team can comment on whether
this is a known issue or not?

[wtp-dev] IWAB0489E error with JBoss 4.2

I've encountered a problem with "Bottom Up Javas bean Web Service" wizard.

My env is:
- Eclipse Ganymede (Eclipse Classic 3.4 + WTP 3.0 installed)
- JBoss 4.2.2
- JDK 5.0 (JBoss is configured to use this JDK in
Preferences->Server->Runtime Environments)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create "Dynamic Web Project" with project facet: Dynamic Web Module -
2.5, Java - 5.0.
2. Create simple com.example.HelloService class with "public String
sayHello(String name)".
3. File->New->Other->Web Service.
Web Service Type: Bottom Up
Service Impl: com.example.HelloService
4. Put slider to "Test service". Configuration: Server - JBoss 4.2, Web
Service Runtime - Apache Axis.
5. Publish, Monitor checkboxes is on. Click "Next".
6. Choose RCP/Encoded in "Style and use". Click "Next"

After this error screen is shown: "IWAB0489E Error when deploying Web
service to Axis runtime
  axis-admin failed with {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}HTTP
(404)/WSExample/services/AdminService"

I googled this issue and that's what I found:
1. Wizard will finish successfully if I will change JDK 5.0 to JDK 1.4.
2. Wizard will finish successfully if I will use Tomcat 6.0 instead of
JBoss 4.2.

But with JBoss 4.2 on Java 5.0 wizard fails with that Axis issue.
Has anybody faced with this problem?

Fw: [wtp-dev] Fwd: EJB WebServices

2008-06-18 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi Sainath,

Creating EJB Web services is currently not supported in WTP. We only
support the creation of Web service in a Web project for Axis1 and Axis2.
We had a long standing RFE
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=89922) opened to request
for this support but it had been closed with "No Plan to Fix" given the
following rationale:

There's no plan to implement this enhancement in Axis1 given the current
resource on the
Web services team. Please note that we now have support for Axis2 (the
next
generation Web services runtime). Even though the Axis2 tool in WTP
currently does not
support EJB Web service either, future enhancement to support the creation
of
EJB Web service would likely be for the Axis2 runtime rather than the
Axis1
runtime.

You are welcome to open an RFE for the Axis2 Web services tools in WTP to
support the creation of EJB Web service. Here's the URL for opening a

[wtp-dev] Fwd: EJB WebServices

Hi,

I am trying to deploy a stateless session EJB as a web service using the
create webservices popup menu.
my ejb code is this:

Converter.java
--
import java.math.BigDecimal;
import javax.ejb.Remote;
import javax.jws.WebService;

@Remote
public interface Converter {
public BigDecimal dollarToRupees(BigDecimal dollars);

public BigDecimal rupeesToEuro(BigDecimal rupees);
}

ConverterBean.java

import java.math.BigDecimal;
import javax.ejb.*;
import javax.jws.WebService;

@Stateless
public class ConverterBean implements Converter {
private BigDecimal rupeeRate = new BigDecimal("40.58");
private BigDecimal euroRate = new BigDecimal("0.018368");

public BigDecimal dollarToRupees(BigDecimal dollars) {
BigDecimal result = dollars.multiply(rupeeRate);
return result.setScale(2, BigDecimal.ROUND_UP);
}

public BigDecimal rupeesToEuro(BigDecimal rupees) {
BigDecimal result = rupees.multiply(euroRate);
return result.setScale(2, BigDecimal.ROUND_UP);
}
}
--

But when i right click the ConverterBean.java and select create web
service, the wizard works fine to the point where we select which
functions to expose as web methods. Then its giving me an error like this:

IWAB0398E Error in generating WSDL from Java:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: abc.ConverterBean

I think it created another web project named WebServiceProject and trying
to search the class files in that project.

Can anyone help me in this regard?

Thanks in Advance.,

My fault. I was hoping that we could avoid creating a separate plugin to
hold two internal classes, since these classes shouldn’t be even loaded in
the headless case, but it sounds like that doesn’t work. Could you open a
bug?

Hi,

Does anyone knows why org.eclipse.jst.common.project.facet.core has a
dependency on org.eclipse.wst.common.project.facet.ui? This resulted in
org.eclipse.ui and org.eclipse.swt (among other plugins) to be pulled in.
This causes problem with tools that runs in headless Eclipse environment.

[wtp-dev] Nomination of Chris Brealey and Craign Salter for Committer Emeritus status

2008-04-29 Thread Kathy Chan
I've been asked to clarify my nomination for Chris Brealey and Craig
Salter for Committer Emeritus status for the benefit of those who are less
familiar with their work in WTP. I did not elaborate when I nominated
them earlier today since I thought everyone in WTP is already very
familiar with the work Chris and Craig had done over the years.

Chris was the component lead in the Web services component and Craig was
the component lead in the XML and XML Web services component since the
initial formation of WTP. They were instrumental in setting the direction
of WTP and guiding it through the various releases. They laid out a lot
of the ground work for their respective components and had been shaping
the direction of these components ever since. Over the years, they
contributed designs documents, implemented RFEs, provide fixes, and
reviewed patches from other team members. They had been very actively
participating in the WTP community in general until they had a change of
job responsibility a few months ago. For that reason, they had submitted
their resignation to the WTP PMC.

Following the process outlined recently to maintain an up-to-date list of
active committers, I requested to expire their committer rights for the
Web services subproject and to nominate them for Committer Emeritus status
in recognition to their previous contribution.

[wtp-dev] Eclipse Web Service Client

Hello,

I am trying to apply procedures in the link below

http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/tutorials/BottomUpAxis2WebService/bu_tutorial.html

to Create Bottom Up Web Service via Apache Axis2. My question is what is
the difference between the following port names: SOAP12port_http and
Httpport. I created 2 clients in 2 separate project. The first client for
SOAP12port_http, and the second SOAP12port_http. I note there is no
difference between them!, the generated clients stub code for both ports
are identical!

my understanding is that SOAP12port_http means the binding is SOAP v1.2
over http, and Httpport is REST web service!. is that right?

Could any one clarify the difference between SOAP12port_http and Httpport.

Thanks,

[wtp-dev] Critical defect 218982 - Server not restarted automatically when required

2008-02-14 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

With today's WTP 3.0 M5 candidate driver (wtp-sdk-S-3.0M5-20080214072830),
I found a regression problem where Tomcat 5.5 server is not automatically
restarted when a Web project is added to a started server. The server
would show that the Web project is added but the automatic restarting does
not take place. I've opened bug 218982
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=218982) for this critical
problem.

In the Web services wizard, we are counting on the server to be restarted
as required
when adding a new Web project to the server. Since the restart did not
take place, the Web services wizard would fail to deploy Axis1 Web service
since it requires a running server with the Web project added. A number
of other Web services
scenarios are broken as well. The only workaround is to manually add and
restart the Web
project before running the Web service scenarios.

This needs to be fixed before M5 can be declared.

[wtp-dev] What's new in Web services tools in M4

2007-12-21 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

Here are the noteworthy changes to the WTP Web services tools in M4:

1. User can now create Web services by selecting Java beans in a Java

2. The "Launch Web Services Explorer" menu bar action is now only
available in the J2EE perspective.

3. Extenders to Web services runtime can now veto project, EAR and server
selections.

Please refer to the "M4 News and Noteworthy for Web services tools" for

[wtp-dev] Moving Web services pop-up category from JST to WST

2007-10-30 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

For those who depends on org.eclipse.jst.ws.consumption.ui and
org.eclipse.wst.ws.ui, please read on ...

Please note that in order to complete the move of the Web Services
Explorer plugin from the JST to the WST install package, we had to move
the Web service pop-up category from the the
org.eclipse.jst.ws.consumption.ui to the org.eclipse.wst.ws.ui plugin.
This has been done in defect 202303
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=202303) and had just been
released to HEAD for WTP 3.0.

The major thing that adopters will need to do is to change the Web
services popop menu path. This menu path was:

org.eclipse.jst.ws.atk.ui.webservice.category.popupMenu/popupActions

It has been changed to:

org.eclipse.wst.ws.ui.webservice.category.popupMenu/popupActions

Another change that adopters should be aware of is the version changes for
2 WTP plugins.

The org.eclipse.jst.ws.consumption.ui plugin changed it's version from
1.0.205 to 1.1.0.

The org.eclipse.wst.ws.ui plugin changed it's version from 1.0.203 to
1.1.0.

Note that the following Web services plugins had been branched to
R2_0_maintenance earlier already:

org.eclipse.wst.ws.explorer

HEAD. I'll be updating the map files with the comment about which branch
it is coming from once this week's I-build is declared.

Fw: [wtp-dev] Web Services Explorer functional in WTP 3.0 WST download

2007-09-13 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi Lawrence,

Yes. We had the idea of running the Web Services Explorer as a WAR
outside of Eclipse (bug 89191) but we had been running into a couple of
issues and had not been able to spend any more effort to further pursue
that.

Back in WTP 2.0, we had added an Eclipse extension point in the WSE when
we implemented RFE 176493 (WSE: Make message/transport stack pluggable -
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=176493). In addition, the
move from Tomcat to Jetty requires the WSE to be packaged as an Eclipse
plugin to run in the Jetty engine. With these two recent development,
running the WSE outside of Eclipse is even harder to achieve. So I think
we would just be shelfing that idea for now. We could revisit that
decision if we feel that there is significant demand from the community
for this feature to justify re-opening the issue.

We could further any discussion of this issue in bug 89191.

Hi Kathy,

Nice work. An idea was floated a little while ago to host the WS Explorer
on the Eclipse site so it can be used stand-alone off of the WTP site.
This will provide a nice service from WTP and I hope draw some more
traffic to the project. Do you foresee any issues here? (I found bug 89191
[1] that suggests there may be some issues.) I've opened bug 203134 [2] to

Hi,

We have finished the migration of the Web Services Explorer to Jetty
(instead of using Apache Tomcat). The Web Services Explorer is now
functional again starting with yesterday's WTP 3.0 drivers (it was not
working in WTP 3.0 M1). Also, the Web Services Explorer is now fully
contained in the WST project package. You do not need to get both the JST

[wtp-dev] Web services tools in WTP 3.0 integration driver

2007-08-17 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

I've run smoke tests on today's WTP 3.0 integration driver:

http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/committers/drops/R3.0/I-I200708170224-200708170224/

All the Web services smoke tests passed except for the Web Services
Explorer. So the WTP 3.0 integration driver seems to be hanging together
quite nicely. I was able to create dynamic Web project, run on server and
go through Web services scenarios.

As mentioned in the WTP status meeting, users would not be able to bring
up the Web Services Explorer in the current WTP 3.0 driver since the
imbedded Tomcat engine had been removed in Eclipse 3.4 M1 and we are still
migrating the Web Services Explorer to use Equinox Jetty (
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=192785). We expected to
have this done by early next week in time for next week's WTP 3.0 M1
driver.

[wtp-dev] Nomination of Carl Anderson to WTP JEE Committer

To the JST Team Committers [1],
I am happy to nominate Carl Anderson as a committer on the JEE and Common
component teams.

Since WTP's inception, Carl has worked on development teams that adopted
many of its frameworks, and provided great feedback, and logged bug
reports.
Since joining my team last year, Carl has quickly contributed many quality
fixes, designed and developed new enhancements for the 2.0 release, and
has participated
in the JEE5 working group. Carl has helped develop some of the new
emerging api for Java EE models, and has organized many existing
J2EE models and operations, cleaning up deprecated code, removing hundreds
of compiler warnings, and helping overall project health
by actively representing the IBM J2EE team in the WTP status meetings. I'm
confident will be a great addition the WTP team, and will continue to
make significant contributions for WTP 3.0

The query below [2] shows only a portion of Carl's contributions since
last year. (Carl's email is: [EMAIL PROTECTED] in case you were wondering)

Thanks for your time,

Chuck Bridgham

Fw: [wtp-dev] Nomination of Lahiru Sandakith to WTP Web services Committer

2007-06-29 Thread Kathy Chan
+1

I've worked closely with Lahiru over the last few months on integrating
Axis2 Web services tools into WTP. He had always been open to suggestions
and responsive to bugs. His dedication to his work is shown in the RFEs,
bugs, tutorials and test plans he contributed to Axis2 Web services tools
in WTP 2.0. He would sure be an asset as a committer to the Web services
component team.

Subject
[wtp-dev] Nomination of Lahiru Sandakith to WTP Web servicesCommitter

To the Web Services and WSDL Committers [1],
it is with great pleasure I am writing to nominate Lahiru Sandakith from
WSO2 as a Committer on the Web Services Component team of the WTP project.

Since about October last year, Lahiru has been operating as a dedicated
member of the WTP Web Services tools team on the design, development,
testing and documentation of a new set of extensions to the Web services
platform in WTP 2.0 to support the development of Apache Axis2 Web
services and clients. Lahiru has contributed a substantial amount of new
code to the platform and in so doing accomplished rich integration between
Eclipse WTP and Apache Axis2. Along the way, he has amassed impressive
breadth and depth of knowledge in plug-in development for the Eclipse and,
of course, WTP Web services platforms. He has contributed extensions to
the Eclipse preferences framework, the Web services framework and the
facets framework. He implemented a mechanism similar to that found in
Server Tools whereby WTP does not include any actual Axis2 code, but
instead allows the user to point WTP to an independent Axis2 installation
and, under the covers, reflectively exploit it. Not limiting himself to
just "the code", he has also written tutorials and contributed functional
test suites for the Axis2 tools. The query below [2] demonstrates the
variety of RFEs and bugs Lahiru has responsively worked on over the past
few months.

Lahiru has applied sound judgement, skill, discipline, adaptability,
insight, a genuinely affable nature and strong sense of enthusiasm and
helpfulness to the Eclipse WTP project - all traits typical of a
Committer. In recognition of Lahiru's accomplishments to date and to
unleash him on a variety of improvements to the Axis2 tools we wish to
explore beyond WTP 2.0, please join me in casting a "+1" for Lahiru as a
WTP Web services Committer.

Many thanks for your time and attention,
Chris Brealey.

[wtp-dev] Testing WTP install from Europa Discovery Site

2007-06-07 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

I found out that the reason most of the WTP functions are missing in my
Europa install test because I was using JDK 1.4.2. When I repeated the
test with JDK 1.5.0, the expected WTP functions showed up. The Web
Services Explorer is still missing in the WST install. Not sure what
other things might be missing from the WST install. However, the JST
install is looking pretty good. I still need to run specific tests to
verify that all the Web services functions are there properly in the
various installs. At least, the install does not look broken anymore when
I used JDK 1.5.0.

Sorry about the false alarm. I was using another machine to do the Europa
test and the default JDK was set to JDK 1.4.2 there. On that note, is
there anything we could do to warn user about not using JDK 1.4.2 with
WTP.

Testing WTP install from Europa Discovery Site failed

Hi,

The Europa testing does not look very good for WTP functions.

I then did 3 different tests:

1. Mimimum set testing with just choosing wst under "Web and JEE
Development".
Check "select required". This selected all it's prereqs (e.g. EMF, GEF
etc.).
2. Normal set testing with just choosing jst under "Web and JEE
Development".
Check "select required". This selected all it's prereqs (including wst).
3. Maximum set testing with choosing all Europa component (except to not
select
"other tools" (because of bug 191530 - Buckminster - Subversion support
missing required plugin).

In all 3 tests, most of the WTP functions (except server tooling) seems to
be missing even though the wst and jst plugins are there. I've opened
defect 191585 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=191585) to
track this problem.

Well. I tried using the Europa Discovery Site to install wst. WTP was
not listed as one of the option when I choose the Ottawa mirror site. I
have to choose the "Europa Discovery Site" in the list of update mirrors
rather than the other mirror site for the "Web and JEE Development" to
show up. (David suspect it's because the products were just promoted last
night and did not get mirrored properly yet).

I picked WST, then "select required" to install wst and it's prereqs.
After the install, the wst plugins seems to be there OK:

Re: [wtp-dev] Testing from Europa Discovery Site -- in different locations

Also ... I'll add ... be sure to test with different features installed in
different locations. This is settable about three dialogs of "next" using
the update manager.

Due to various reasons, it is possible that update manager will install
the same bundle at different locations, but only one of them gets
activated for any particular session.

This will cause some odd looking messages in your log, such as the
following:

Notice the name and versions are identical. It is not obvious from the
message, but I installed "WTP" in a directory called " ../WTP/" relative
to the base Eclipse. And, "commons.logging" is used by base, and us, so it
ends up installed twice and is just an informative message ... there is no
real error in that. (this is desirable, since a whole location can be
"disabled", resulting in a missing bundle if not installed twice).

So ... the thing to test is ... does anyone make any funny "file system
location" assumptions that they should not be making.

I did test bottom-up webservice creation with this particular division of
locations and it worked fine. (and think it is one case that "locates" and
copies "commons.logging" to server?)
That means Kathy and the WebServices team have done a good job :) ... but
has everyone else, everywhere?

As long as everyone is using "platform:" URL scheme things should work
fine ... but ... for an extreme example, if someone were to "look up"
commons.logging, and then assume from there where the "axis" bundle was
located at some relative location, they'd be wrong in these cases.

Hopefully this is "old news" and no one does this ... just a reminder that
there is a lot of testing still to do!

Thanks,

[wtp-dev] Testing from Europa Discovery Site -- without JDT!!!

I just wanted to remind everyone to do some testing with Installs from the
Europa Discovery Site.
Starting Wednesday the (built in) "Europa Discovery Site" should point to
a complete set of RC2 of plugins.

Minimum:

One of the new things in RC2 is the ability to install WST without JDT!
This has been much requested by non-Java web developers, and has taken a
number of
teams cooperating to accomplish.

To do that level of testing you should install (only) the Eclipse Platfo

Re: [wtp-dev] WAB0524E Error updating Axis deploy.wsdd file

Hi, Kathy:

Thank you for replying!

I download and installed the newest version of WTP 2.0 driver as directed.
Only this time, I have the following error:

IWAB0489E Error when deploying Web service to Axis runtime
  axis-admin failed with {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}HTTP
(404)/ConverterProj/services/AdminService

as I tried to replicate your tutorial on creating the bottom up web
services.

The detail configurations are the following:
WindowsXP SP2
JRE 1.6.0_1
Tomcat 6.0
Axis2 runtime

Any more suggestions to fix this? Thank you very much!

[wtp-dev] Web services tools in this week's I Build: I-I200705111421-200705111421

2007-05-11 Thread Kathy Chan
Please note the following noteworthy additions in this week's integration
build for Web services tools (this would be included in the RC0 News and
Noteworthy document):

1. The Axis2 Web services tools now supports Axis2 v1.2.

2. The Web Services Explorer now supports pluggable message/transport
stack (enhancement 176493).

3. A new optional attribute "mergerClass" is introduced in the Web
services implementation type extension point
"org.eclipse.jst.ws.consumption.ui.wsImpl". This mergerClass should
implement the newly defined IMerger interface with a load() and merge()
method. This class is used for the purpose of Web services skeleton file
merging for the Web service implementation type. A JavaMerger has been
defined for the Java Web service implementation type "
org.eclipse.jst.ws.wsImpl.java". See bug 182274 for more detail.

There are also a few known problems that users should be aware of:

1. Bug 186262 - UDDI page does not work in Web Services Explorer.
- This is a classloading problem with uddi4j, common-logging and log4j
(see defect for detail). The workaround is to create a Web service with
the Axis 1.x runtime first before using UDDI in the Web Services Explorer.
We'll pick up a new build with the fix for this defect before entering
RC0 FVT testing early next week.

2. Bug 186633 - Xerces ClassCastException in Web services scenarios after
running Web services Ant task.
- The problem is being investigated.

3. Bug 184296 - Duplicate projects generated by Web services wizard in
Java perspective.
- This is a JDT bug that has been fixed in Eclipse 3.3 05/08 driver. WTP
2.0 RC0 is still on Eclipse M7. We'll pick this fix up after RC0.

4. Bug 186233 - Sample JSP option missing from generate sample popup.
- We'll try to fix this next week in time for RC0.

I am seeing some issues with this build. Are these known problems or
should I open a few bugs?

1. The following three errors are logged when you open a dynamic web
project wizard. Probably a packaging issue.

Could not load icon "icons/axis2-facet.ico" from plugin
org.eclipse.jst.ws.axis2.core.
Could not load icon "icons/axis2-facet-add.gif" from plugin
org.eclipse.jst.ws.axis2.core.
Could not load icon "icons/axis2-facet-add.gif" from plugin
org.eclipse.jst.ws.axis2.core.

2. When you start with a fresh workspace and select the new runtime button
on the first page of the dynamic web project wizard, you get an error
dialog with the following message and stack trace. The same error is also
logged. Cannot tell what actual harm comes from this. The new runtime
wizard comes up and functions just fine. To repro the problem again, a
workbench restart is required.

An internal error occurred during: "Decoration Calculation".

[wtp-dev] New Axis2 Web services tools in WTP 2.0

2007-04-26 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

Please note that the Axis2 [1] Web services runtime is now supported by
the Web services tools in this week's WTP 2.0 integration driver. You can
now create bottom-up, top-down Axis2 Web service and Axis2 Web service
client using the Web services tools that is currently in WTP.

This is the result of the initial contribution by WSO2 [2] to integrate
Axis2 into WTP (RFE 165664) [3] and includes the following RFEs:

- 168762 - Create Axis2 bottom-up and top-down Java Web service. [4]
- 172186 - Create Axis2 Web service client. [5]
- 168765 - User-specified Axis2 runtime location. [6]
- 168766 - Adding Axis2 facet. [7]
- 168937 - Axis2 preference page. [8]

Please refer to the "Axis2 integration in WTP" wiki [9] for more
information on the ongoing Axis2 integration effort and for RFEs being
considered for post-WTP 2.0.

Two new Axis2 Web services tools tutorials have been created under the Web
Services tutorials section in the WTP Web site:

- Creating bottom-up Axis2 Web service [10]
- Creating top-down Axis2 Web service [11]

In addition, a Webinar "Introduction to Web services tools in WTP" [12]
will be held on May 3 at 3:00 pmGMT (11:00 EST). This would include a
demonstration of the Axis2 Web services tools.

FYI -

I have added a WTP track on the eclipsecon website to list all of these
events as well. It has to be approved by the program committee, but then
it should show on the suggested tracks section.

RE: [wtp-dev] Has anyone run into OutOfMemoryError with WTP 2.0 driver?

2006-12-20 Thread Kathy Chan
Thanks for the info, Konstantin. I had tried to set
?-XX:MaxPermSize=256m? in the vmargs. I had even tried setting it to 512m
but still run into OutOfMemoryError after running a few scenarios. I was
using Sun JDK 1.5.0_10.

If others have run into similar problem or have insight into this problem,
please post to the bug 168285 (

RE: [wtp-dev] Has anyone run into OutOfMemoryError with WTP 2.0 driver?

We see the PermGen error pretty regularly and it isn?t limited to the 2.0
builds for us. We?ve seen it with 1.0.x and 1.5.x. I believe the problem
started happening with a particular version of Sun?s JVM for Java 5, but I
do not have the info about the specific version. The workaround is to
increase the allocated PermGen space using ?-XX:MaxPermSize=256m? in the
vmargs.

Hi,

Has anyone run into OutOfMemoryError with the latest WTP 2.0 driver? I
started seeing this problem in WTP 2.0 drivers starting late last week
when running Web services scenarios and had been able to reproduce this
with different WTP 2.0 drivers. However, we don't suspect the problem is
specific to Web services scenarios. We are currently trying to isolate
the problem by using different tools.

Here's the error:

Re: [wtp-dev] Has anyone run into OutOfMemoryError with WTP 2.0 driver?

2006-12-19 Thread Kathy Chan
Yes. David already pointed to the fact that I need to change to use
-XX:MaxPermSize=128m. I've tried that and even increase to 256m but still
run into this problem. I've run into this with Sun JDK 1.5.0_07, 1.5.0_09
and 1.5.0_10. Seng ran into the same problem as well. I just want to
have a feel to see if others are running into similar problems with recent
drivers.

Hi Kathy,

I'm not sure you've hit a new problem. We've had several reports of this
problem since (I think) before WTP 1.0. There's even a faq entry for the
question you asked [1]. Did you recently change your VM?

Fw: [wtp-dev] JEM and EMF issues in latest WTP 2.0 driver

2006-12-15 Thread Kathy Chan
Hi,

Please note that I was able to workaround the JEM and EMF problem noted in
defect 167992 by using emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-2.3.0M3.zip
instead of emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-I200612071030.zip with the WTP 2.0 200612150220
driver (the WTP 2.0 driver download page is pointing to
emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-I200612071030.zip) . Other teams running into similar
problem could try this workaround as well.

[wtp-dev] Attn: Web services component plugins branched for 1.5 maintenance stream

2006-10-04 Thread Kathy Chan

Extended Team,

In order to allow work on both WTP 1.5.x and 2.0, the Web servicesJ2EE
team has branched our plugins accordingly.  So, effective immediately,
any work done on 1.5.x should be done in the "R1_5_maintenance"
stream and any 2.0 work or line items can be done in the "HEAD"
stream.  The following is a list of plugins which were affected by
this branching:

[wtp-dev] Enhancements in Web Services test extension released last week

2006-08-30 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

Please note that an enhancement to the
Web service test extension point has been made in last week's WTP 1.5.1
M-build:

1.5.1
  Thu, 24 Aug 2006 -- 17:26 (UTC)

See defect 153833
for detail.  Here's a short description of the change:

We have changed the org.eclipse.jst.ws.consumption.ui.tester
extension point so that a
particular Web service test extension can optionally specify that they
only
support a particular kind of Web service client runtime type.

When deciding which Web service test facility to present to the user, the
Web
service wizard would then take this optional attribute into account depending
on which
Web service runtime is being processed.

Since the test extension do not necessarily
know about what runtime it can
support (there could be many Web service runtime extender), we are
letting the Web service runtime extenders define which test extension could
support their client runtime via the new "supportedClientRuntime"
attribute.

You can specify more than one client
runtime by listing the client runtimes one after
another seperated by a space.

For Web services tester extensions that can restrict support by client
runtime, such as the Web Services sample JSP generator, we have added a
new attribute
"allowClientRuntimesRestriction" and set it to "true".
This attribute will be defaulted to "false"
so that existing Web Service Tester
extenders do not have
to react to this change or be inadventently restricted by a particular
client
runtime some plugin higher up in the stack may specify.  So as a result,
Web
Service test facility such as the Web Services Explorer would still show
up for
all Web service runtime.

Since we have now allowed the Web services
sample JSP generator to "allowClientRuntimesRestriction"
and set the "supportedClientRuntime"
to the Axis Web service client runtimes, the Web Services Sample JSP
generator test facility would not be
showing up for other Web service runtimes unless they add an extension

similar to the following defined for
the Axis Web service runtime:

  id=

"org.eclipse.jst.ws.internal.consumption.ui.widgets.test.WebServiceSampleTest"

supportedClientRuntimes=
  "org.eclipse.jst.ws.axis.consumption.java

   org.eclipse.jst.ws.axis.consumption.web">

In addition, we have added 2 optional
attributes to the Web service test extension:
- codeGenerated (defaulted to false, should set to true if code will be
generated by this test extension)
- serverRequired (defaulted to false,
should set to true if this test extension requires a server to run)

Please see defect 104870
for more detail.

The above changes had been communicated
to the known extenders to Web services runtime.

[wtp-dev] Improvement to the Web service creation framework in this week's M-build

2006-08-18 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

Please note that there's an improvement
to the Web services creation framework that extenders might want to take
advantage of in this week's WTP 1.5.1 M-build:

1.5.1
  Thu, 17 Aug 2006 -- 16:32 (UTC)

When creating a top-down Web service,
the Web services framework now opens the editor on the generated implementation
file.

Strictly speaking, extenders do not
have to react to this change.  However, in the interest of performance
and correct behaviour, extenders should remove any code they have in their
extension to launch an editor for the top-down generated skeleton Java
file, and insure their WebServiceInfo object identifies one or
more absolute URIs to the one or more generated skeletons.  Please
see bug 135395
for details.

Subject
[wtp-dev] Nomination of Peter Moogk
to WTP committer

I am writing to nominate Peter Moogk as a committer on the WTP project.

Peter has been a dedicated and prolific contributor of the highest quality,
well designed enhancements and fixes to the Web services tools of the WTP
project since its inception. There are few aspects of the tools with which
Peter is not fluent or has not applied his considerable skill at OO design.
He designed, implemented, documented, tested and maintains the Environment
Command Framework which has been instrumental in enabling our core tool
scenarios to run in a variety of graphical and non-graphical contexts without
alteration. Thru collaboration with the J2EE team he has driven convergance
of the Web service and J2EE tools teams' wizard frameworks. He is responsible
for the internet proxy page, leads our effort to have our Web service tools
behave well in international locales, and continually seeks ways to improve
the usability and performance characteristics of the tools. Peter never
hesitates to share his technical advice and leadership, particularly in
Web services and Java OO design, with others.

There is no question in my mind that the WTP platform will benefit greatly
by granting Peter committer status so that he can directly help guide the
evolution of the Web services platform. A glance at the ~87 bugs and RFEs
Peter has contributed [1] is testimony to this.

[wtp-dev] Requesting respin for 143843

2006-05-26 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

We found a serious regression in Web
services Ant task introduced by a fix released this week causing Web services
Ant task to fail to generate into existing projects.  Details are
in defect 143843 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=143843).

I've released a fix for that defect
and requesting a respin of this week's integration driver.

David indicated the respin build should
be available around noon.  Web services team should be the only team
affected and need to re-smoke test with that respin.  We'll run smoke
test again as soon as the build is available and report to wtp-releng.

[wtp-dev] What's new in the
Web Services wizards in this week's WTP 1.5 integration driver

Please note that we have added the following enhancements to the Web Services
tools in this week's integration driver I200604062351.  Here are a
summary of the changes:

- Brand new first page to the Web Services wizard and Web Services Client
wizard.  Check them out, they are cool. [1]:
        - The first three pages of the Web Services
Wizards have been combined into a new first page.

        - The user can use the service and client sliders
to select whether to develop, install, start and test.

        - The user can use the various links in the
summary section to change server, Web service runtime, project and EAR.

- The user can optionally use the Web service -> Resource Management
-> Merge generated skeleton preference to enable merging of the
generated skeleton file with pre-existing skeleton implementation file
[1].
- The Web Services Explorer's WSDL browser now shows WSDL files under different
categories  [2].
- Support for nils and attributes in the Web Services Explorer [3].

- Added Web service -> Axis Emitter preference page [4].

You can find more details on the enhancements under:

[1] https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=128827

[2] https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=127456

[3] https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=98844

[4] https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=127016

Please keep the following in mind when using the new Web Services wizards
in this week's WTP 1.5 integration driver:

- You need to use the Browse button to select the Service Implementation.
It's not automatically defaulted to the initial selection.  Failure
to do that would result in  a ClassCastException when attempting to
click Next or Finish.  [5].
-  You may need to resize the wizards to access all controls. This
is especially important in order to access the client slider.  [6]

- Use the service and client sliders to control whether to develop, install
and start the service and client.  They replaces the check boxes that
used to be on the first page.
- There are cases when the Web service runtime, server, project and EAR
are not defaulted properly.  Use the various summary links to ensure
that the settings are correct [7].  These settings are currently not
being displayed on the first page even after they are set [8].

be updating the Web services tutorials for the M6 RC1 driver.

Re: [wtp-dev] Help with WTP

2006-01-27 Thread Kathy Chan

The wtp-dev list is supposed to be used
for discussing development issues related to WTP.  Please open a bugzilla
defect if you found a problem with the code or make use of the WTP newsgroup
for general usage questions.

For this scenario you reported, bottom-up
Web service should work.  Please double check to see that you've upzip
the driver properly and that plugins\org.apache.axis_1.2.1\lib exist containing
axis-ant.jar.  You might want to try the latest M driver (http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/M-M200601251151-200601251151).
I've smoke tested with that driver and bottom-up Web service is fine
with that driver.  I had also tested with the M20060117 driver
but did not try the M20060118 driver you had.  If you still have problem,
please open a bugzilla defect and we can follow up with that.

been sent to another distribution list) so I went ahead and released 119997
and 120014 into RC3.  I had also ran Web services smoke test and specifically
verified that defect 120014 had been fixed in the 12/11 05:22 RC3 driver.
We would be asking the originator to verify 119997 as well.

Given that the team plans to continue testing for a week, I think these

Arthur,
thanks. We have a total of two blockers in Web services, 119997
and 120014.
Fixes have been made and well tested, and are ready to commit and release.
It is essential we fix both in WTP 1.0. Answers to your questions follow,
and I've added as much gory detail as I dare to the bugs themselves.

1. Is there are workaround?
     No.
119997 manifests itself as an unpredictable and generally
unavoidable deadlock in the workbench.
120014 results in loss of data to the end user.

2. Should this be defered?
     No.

3. Can this be fixed in time for the next release candidate (if one is
planned)? If no, then request another release candidate. Either way, request
PMC approval.
Fixes for both bugs are ready. I'm not sure where RC3 is
in the pipeline. Is it still open to fixes?

Would the PMC please approve these and advise me on when to release them?

Thanks much,
Cheers - CB.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test result on RC2

2005-12-09 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

Strictly speaking, Web services smoke
tests pass on RC2  1208_1903 despite the two blocker bugs because
of the following reasons:

Bug 120014
:  The smoke test do not involve changing any data in the Java Bean
or Skeleton Configuration pages.
Bug  119997:
The problem does not show up when deploying Web service to Tomcat
server.

However, those are problems adopters
will run into.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test passes with the RC1 12/02 00:59 build

2005-12-01 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

I re-ran the Web services smoke tests
with the RC1 12/02 00:59 build.  They all ran fine.  The jst.ws
JUnit failures mysteriously disappears as well.

So I would vote +1 to declaring this
build.

Hi,

Web services smoke tests passes with the RC1 12/01 22:32 build (which included
the fixes we released earlier and the J2EE fix Chuck released).

Note that you'll have to select "Install Web service client on the
server" when generating a Web service client.  Otherwise, the
client project is not added to the server.  We've already fixed it
in bug 118830 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=118830) and
will release the fix after RC1 is declared.

Please note that we are looking at the failure of jst.ws JUnits.  There
were similar intermitten JUnit failures earlier last month in the build
but the problems come and go with different builds.  However, these
tests all ran fine in self-hosting.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test failed on RC1, requesting respin

2005-12-01 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

I ran through the Web services smoke
test on RC1 (12/01 03:37) and hit a blocker problem with all Web services
scenario due to Axis wsdl2java timing out.

I've opened bug 118819 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=118819).

This problem was introduced in fixing
bug 87296 where we introduce a system property ("AxisWsdl2JavaTimeout")
for the user to set the timeout value for wsdl2java.  The fix was
to revert back to the old behaviour of not setting the time out and leaving
it as the Axis wsdl2java default.  Now the timeout will only be set
if the system property "AxisWsdl2JavaTimeout" is defined.  The
fix is simple (attached as a patch to the bug), isolated and had been tested.
Without this fix, the only workaround is to set vmarg for "AxisWsdl2JavaTimeout"
when bringing up Eclipse.  This would not be a good user experience
for RC1.

With the fix for bug 118819, we also
found a critical bug 118829  (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=118829)
where if the user selects to generate client when creating a Web service,
the user would not be able to go to the client page or finish the Web service
wizard.  We are looking at the problem and is very close to finding
a solution.  Without this problem fixed, the user would have to create
the Web service without generating client and use the Web service client
wizard to generate client.

We are requesting to respin RC1 to pick
up 118819 (and 118829 if the fix is available within the next hour, which
is very likely).

Sorry about the regressions introduced
in recent bug fixes.  We will be much more vigilant in unit testing
and code review in the future!

[wtp-dev] Web services team dropping fixes for 116340 and108575

2005-11-18 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

We have released the changes to fix
the following defects to the I-build for M9:

116340 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=116340)
108575 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=108575)

They both deal with the inability to
launch the Web Services Explorer from the Web Services Wizard.

The fixes are isolated and had been
tested.

[wtp-dev] Web services team dropping fix for 116953

2005-11-18 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi

We had committed and released the fix
for defect 116953 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=116953)
to the next I-build.

This is a problem with
wrong
module type being passed.  Server tools module ids (and versions)
were changed a couple of  weeks ago to match
the new J2EE facets. ServerUtils.isTargetValidForEAR() needs to be updated
to react to this.

Without this change, projects targeted
to servers that requires EAR would have the EAR field disabled in the Web
services wizard.

This change is very isolated and had
been tested.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test passed with workaround using I20051116_1731 driver

2005-11-16 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

The Web services smoke test passed using
the I20051116_1731 driver.  However there are couple of workarounds
required related to target runtime and JRE version.

1. If you install Tomcat 5.0 runtime
and the default JRE is 1.4.2, then the target runtime would show up properly
when creating Dynamic Web project.  However, if the default JRE is
1.5, then target runtime would be blank and you'll have to go to the 2nd
page of the dynamic Web project, explicitly change the Java version from
5.0 to 1.4, select Bind to bind Tomcat 5.0 to the project.
- Similarly, if you had installed Tomcat
5.5 runtime and the default JRE is not 1.5, then the target runtime would
not show up.

Defect 116699 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=116699
- Facet wizards runtime selection should default facet versions) had been
opened for this problem.

2. If you had create a dynamic Web project
targeting Tomcat 5.5, then you'll need to set default JRE for your workspace
to JRE 1.5.  Otherwise, you'll get unsupportedClassVersionError when
trying to access classes in that Web project.  See defect 116713 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=116713)
for more detail.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test FAILED with I200511161051

2005-11-16 Thread Kathy Chan

With the 1116_1051 I-driver, I was not
able to use the Dynamic Web project wizard to create a Web project targetting
Tomcat.  I've created blocker defect 116671 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=116671).
Chuck is aware of the problem and is looking into it.  Apparently,
this function was fine in yesterday's driver.

Needless to say, Web services smoke
test FAILED.  We need this problem fixed before we can proceed to
even smoke test.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke tests pass with workaround using 11110103 driver

[wtp-dev] Status of Weekly
I-build ... and (lack of) M9 test candidate - TODO for Friday, and Tuesday

Build
is ready at: http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/committers/drops/I-I20050103-20050103

Based on the status call today, (and a few chat's afterwards) here's the
plan for the next few days -- at least, this is my
recommendation sifting though all the comments and concerns ... if I've
missed or misunderstood anything, let me know.

Friday
1. Please "sniff test" 0103 I-build in /committers area and
report "pass or fail" to wtp- releng... we will still look to
officially
declare and promote this build on Friday, 11th.
(after the status call, some teams reminded me the last I-build was pretty
broken, and it was thought very important to have a
better one on download site).  "Must hear" teams, please
report by Friday noon (eastern).

1B. This build has two failing JUnit tests. Server team .. are these significant
functional failures, or just "test problems"?

1C. If we do any I-build at all, I will also release fixes for Bug
115959 (Two SDK "source plugins" mistakenly
jarred)

We'll still leave head builds going ... so those with new code, can start
to get a sense of how that's going (but ... you'll
remember my view .. head builds are not great, and you can do a lot just
in development environment.

Friday to Tuesday
The committers decided that we have not achieved what we need for M9, and
(.. this is the important part ... ) that we
could with a few more days of "new code" before M9, and then
still hold the line that post M9 will be entirely rampdown ...
testing, documentation, and bug fixes only, after M9 declared.  Below
I've listed the (only) areas of "new code" allowed
(at least, without further review and discussion of PMC).
This "new code" will be complete by Tuesday evening, we will
produce another declared I-build on Wednesday, 16th, before noon (eastern)
..
and this Wednesday I-build will be the official M9 candidate that will
begin full testing. Since we also want to achieve a high
quality, stable M9 build, it was recommended by the committers that official
M9 declare day should change from 11/18 to 11/23 to allow a full
week of "milestone testing". The PMC will discuss and decide
and announce this change of dates at Tuesday PMC meeting.
[There was some concern expressed if we would have adequate time to ramp
down, and have high quality Release 1. My own
thought is "yes we can" ... but ... due to these concerns, progress
and rampdown will be closely monitored]. There is no proposal (so far)

to change the Release date.

"P1" needs before M9 candidate build on Wednesday.

1. Componitize JST feature. (As discussed, this does not mean fixing *all*
the "misfits" this componentization has revealed,
e.g. some "core" plugins, will need to be in "ui" component
features for Release 1.0.  But .. the basic feature structure needs
to be
in place.

2. Finish getting docs in builds. (This mostly depends on '1' above, but,
some "new work" too).

3. Finish facet aware wizards (as per Chuck's note .. basics are in place
.. but, needs to be finished).

4. web project "refactoring" ability (more than it sounds ..
umbrella for 6 or 7 important items). Code is ready, needs to be submitted
as
patch, built, and confirmed in build before full testing.

5. Extensible Runtime Bridge for facets ... a bit of a "hole"
exposed by some "portal extenders". (Kosta and Tim are
near solution and API addition).

6. Facet Core/UI extension (sorry Kosta .. I missed details of this one
.. but any thing that improves core/ui separation is critical, IMHO).

Everyone not involved in the above ... please test and start fixing known
critical problems (that are not destabilizing).

Please (conceptually) treat  every build as "a declared I-build"
.. not that every "warm

[wtp-dev] Nomination for
committer status: John Lanuti

I am happy to nominate John Lanuti to become a committer for the Eclipse
WTP Project

John has been a very active participant since the inception of WTP by providing
patches, and in many cases, helping our team
deliver high quality functional line items.  He has written tutorials
that are in use today, is active on the mailing list providing feedback,

and announcing upcoming changes.  He has collaborated with Naci designing
the EJB bean wizard, and basic annotation support.

He has delivered the servlet wizard that generates servlets using xdoclet,
or template style generation.
He has collaborated with Tim Deboer's server component team, providing
the crucial api needed to push assembly of J2EE components

out of the workspace.  He continues to add api, function to the flexible
component api.
John also helps me manage the wtp j2ee components day to day responsibilities
including bugzilla triaging, tracking line items, test plans etc.

John is a dedicated and responsible programmer, and will be a valuable
resource for the project.

[wtp-dev] Failed to run simple servlet with 1105_1946 I-driver

2005-11-07 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

Just want to let everyone know that
we found problem running simple servlet with the 1105_1946 I-driver.  When
trying to run a simple echo servlet, I'm getting the error:

javax.servlet.ServletException: Wrapper
cannot find servlet class echo.EchoServlet or a class it depends on

Defect 115196 turned out to be a more
general problem not specific to Web services.  Chuck is currently
looking into that.

I would suggest adding running a servlet
to smoke test if it's not there already.  May be server tooling already
has that smoke test and just might not have a chance to run it yet since
the respined I-build is not available until after 6:00 pm on Friday.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke

Hi,

With the 1104_2243 I-driver, the Web services smoke tests that used to
work with workaround stated in the forwarded note with the 1104_0542 I-driver
does not work anymore.  I could no longer run a Web service successfully.
  I've open a blocker defect 115196
for the ClassNotFoundException during the running of the Web service.  Since
the Web services component did not drop any code between these two 1104
I-driver, this could be due to new code path being run now that the problem
described in defect 114681
and 115068
are fixed.  We need to investigate this further to find out the cause
of this new problem.

Also, the problem described in defect 114681 (wizard-created Web project
could not be added to Tomcat server) is still here with the 1104_2243 I-driver
even though the problem with context root not set in the .component file
had been fixed with the latest drop made this afternoon by Chuck.  So
defect 114681 had been re-opened and the user would still need to create
the Web project first before going through the Web service wizard in order
to add a project to the server.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke
test passed with workaround

Hi,

I tested with the 20051104_0542 I-build.  The Web services smoke tests
passed with the following workarounds:

- Defect 114681 (cannot add wizard-created project to server) - workaround
by creating the projects before going through the Web services wizards

- Defect 115068 (JRE classpath not set) - workaround by going to Project
properties to set server target to Tomcat.

Last week, we targeted this week to have the code in for having the Web
service wizard create Web project (defect 114044).
This code was in but not fully functional due to defect 114681.  So
we still can't lift the workaround to have to create the projects first.

the Web services component did not drop any code between these two 1104
I-driver, this could be due to new code path being run now that the problem
described in defect 114681
and 115068
are fixed.  We need to investigate this further to find out the cause
of this new problem.

Also, the problem described in defect
114681 (wizard-created Web project could not be added to Tomcat server)
is still here with the 1104_2243 I-driver even though the problem with
context root not set in the .component file had been fixed with the latest
drop made this afternoon by Chuck.  So defect 114681 had been re-opened
and the user would still need to create the Web project first before going
through the Web service wizard in order to add a project to the server.

Re: [wtp-dev] I-build candidate

Hi,

Chuck found a blocking problem on this build where the classpaths of facetted
projects are not configured correctly - either the JRE or the server classpath
is missing. I beleive I've found the cause of the problem, and have opened
up blocking bug 115068. We'll need to have this investigated and most likely
require a fix before declaring the I-build.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test passed with workaround

2005-11-04 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

I tested with the 20051104_0542 I-build.

[wtp-dev] Web services smoke test passed with 1028 00:17 I-build

2005-10-27 Thread Kathy Chan

Hi,

With the 1028 00:17 I-build, the blocking
problem 113974 and the JUnit failure with jst.ws had been fixed.

The Web services smoke tests (the 4
Web services tutorials) passed except for the workaround required to create
the service and client projects first before going through the Web service
and Web services client wizard (defect 114044).

Please note that the Web services performance
tests are not functional yet with this week's driver due to project creation
refactorings required in the Web services code.  These tests should
be functional in next week's I-build.

Hi,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I've found blocking problem
with the I-build candidate related to adding project facet, server target
and classpath.  I've opened blocking defect 113974 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=113974).
Web services smoke tests are all blocked because of this problem.
