[wtp-dev] Reminder: Open call today at 2PM
Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that the usual open call will be held at 2PM EDT today. Connection details and preliminary agenda page are at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2023-07-27 For anyone who'll miss it, here are the highlights: 1) Some more facet values for Jakarta EE 9 and 10 went into M2 courtesy of a community member. 2) Another sharp-eyed community member found a problem with one of the schemas we ship. Thanks to them, it will be corrected in M2. 3) The M2 candidate will not be ready today. As part of updating our CI jobs to be on CentOS8 and use Tycho 4*, a very large number of bundles across WTP's projects need to be updated from targeting JDK 1.6m or older, to versions that are obtainable and runnable on a modern O.S**. 4) The current Orbit version of javax.xml is overdue for replacement. As Source Editing is its main consumer, that will be a focus after item 3 is completed. 5) JSDT has been moved to GitHub. JSF seems to be next. In general, project repositories will be moving to GitHub. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/582204 ** https://bugs.eclipse.org/519189 *** https://github.com/eclipse-orbit/orbit/issues/48 https://github.com/eclipse-jsdt -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev

[wtp-dev] Quick reminder: open call today
Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that we have our scheduled office hours / open call..wow, in 17 minutes! If it slipped your calendar, or you won't make it, here's what's been going on: * We've pivoted from our own Jetty p2 repository to one supplied by the Oomph project, as its artifacts are GPG-signed. 2023-03 was almost missing a transitive dependency that was in WWD 1.0.1 but is absent from 1.0.2, so WTP's SimRel contribution will require changes for 2023-06, in the form of including that bundle in a Feature. * Migration from Bugzilla+Gerrit is coming, but no decision has been made between GitLab and GitHub for our project repositories. Although I'm not sure I'd pick it myself, right now I'm leaning toward GitHub. * Our web site repository has already been moved to Eclipse GitLab. * The removal of the Navigator view from M1 has been addressed. As a reminder, our builds build against the latest Platform I-build specifically to keep us ahead of these sorts of things. -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev
[wtp-dev] Open Call Today
Hi folks, A quick reminder that we have our open call later today. The preliminary agenda with calendar and joining links is at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2023-03-02, but the main news is a minor bit of shuffling that'll be needed once 2022-06 commences to provide some of Jetty's transitive dependencies. Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that our regularly scheduled open call is happening today. You'll find the preliminary notes and details to join at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2023-02-23 . The main thing from the past week is that I delayed the M3 build to include a contributed BVT fix and to update references to some older Tomcat versions. Re: [wtp-dev] org.apache.xerces_2.9.0 vulnerability issues in WTP
Hi Andrew, No, that's not going to be possible. The project doesn't have releng resources to set up and test maintenance branch builds. Typically this would be handled with a Feature Patch or, given that Photon is now over 4 years old, an update of your products to a modern release of Eclipse that is more compatible with current systems. -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev
[wtp-dev] Quick reminder: office hour(s) tomorrow
Hi folks, This is a quick reminder that we're gathering tomorrow for the M3 build. The preliminary agenda can be found at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2022-11-10. Briefly, what's happening: - We're pivoting from our own Jetty p2 repository to one supplied by the Oomph project <https://www.eclipse.org/lists/cross-project-issues-dev/msg19444.html> - An ICU wiring at runtime problem has appeared for upgraded (non-fresh) installations caused by the lack of package versions in the most recent bundle provided in the RCP feature, while package imports were the recommended style for dependencies earlier: https://bugs.eclipse.org/580788. A solution has been committed. - Migration from Bugzilla+Gerrit is coming, but no decision has been made between GitLab and GitHub for our project repositories. No Committers have yet voiced an opinion, other than myself. - Our web site repository, on the other hand, has been moved to GitLab <https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/helpdesk/-/issues/1897>. [wtp-dev] Reminder: Open call time on Thursday the 20th
Hi folks, A quick reminder that our call will be open for M2 discussions. Here's what's been going on: - The JSF build breakage for M1 was solved with some help from the Community: https://bugs.eclipse.org/580785 - M2 will be delayed a couple of days to allow for extra time to put together a solution for bug 580788 <https://bugs.eclipse.org/580788>. While it's been reported first against Source Editing, it's possible that other projects using ICU4J are just as susceptible to the wiring problem. - Migration from Bugzilla+Gerrit is coming, but no decision has been made between GitLab and GitHub for our project repositories. - Our web site repository, on the other hand, has been moved to GitLab <https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/helpdesk/-/issues/1897>. - We are overdue for a more complete Progress Review -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev

[wtp-dev] Cancelling the Ready for Release office hour
Hi folks, While I did forget to send a reminder out about our final open hour for the 3.26, nothing both significant enough and with sufficient review has come to light since RC1, so for now we won't have a separate RC2. We do have Dali and Java EE Tools being worked on for early 3.27, though, which is highly appreciated. The usual agenda page is present, but there's nothing really new to it. Odds are good that on Tuesday (our RC2 date) I'll declare RC1 as our Release build, making it easier to pivot our builds to 3.27 development more quickly. https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2022-06-02 -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev

[wtp-dev] Reminder: Office hour(s) tomorrow
Hi folks, A quick reminder that our usual office hour(s) will be tomorrow, this time for our M3 build, and btw, there will be an M3 build! The Web Services build failures appeared as Error 13 abends of tycho-surefire test executions, but "resuming" the build showed conflicting chains of javax.xml (and related packages), caused by bundles importing those packages at the same time they were requiring Xerces as a whole. This unresolvable chain of dependencies apparently ended up causing the JVM to exit with code 13. This could only be found by digging through the configuration logs in the intended "work" directory, which means the eventual Tycho issue is going to be a challenge to address, if they attempt to. https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2022-05-19 -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev

Originally it was from a mysterious failure of Tycho to find a Java Runtime to run tests on one of Web Service's test bundles, which hasn't happened since our CI instance was migrated to JIRO. A separate integration build failure appeared overnight, from a reference to an internal API that was rightly removed from the Platform. -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev
[wtp-dev] Reminder: "office hours" tomorrow
Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that our regular office hours are on for tomorrow. The preliminary agenda can be found at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2022-04-28. Here are the highlights: * The removal of CVS-originating bundles from Orbit caused massive build breaks in M1. While some bundle recipes were added, we're temporarily also pulling older bundles in from the previous Orbit release so that we can build M2. There simply hasn't been enough time and resources to continue breaking the build for the purpose of understanding what needs replacing, and to do the work of making replacements. Long term we want to either submit the needed recipes, or as a last resort pull directly from Maven. My own thinking is that pulling artifacts from Maven and shipping them as anything other than a final ingredient when creating a Product is a mistake. * Changes to the IP Policy are coming: https://www.eclipse.org/lists/eclipse.org-members-committers/msg00612.html * Migration from Bugzilla+Gerrit is also coming, but no decision has been made between GitLab and GitHub. Input from Committers would be welcome. * Still implementing support for Jakarta EE 9. -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev

Hi folks, Just a reminder that our regularly scheduled open Zoom call is happening tomorrow, covering any last minute details for the 3.25 release, and is a good time to review the https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_Release_Tasks. The https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2022-03-03 page will be created at that point. As nothing both surprising and catastrophic has been reported against RC1, it looks like that'll be our release build as well. Hi all, Today's session, for 3.25 RC1, will happen on schedule. You'll find the dedicated page at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2022-02-24 . The high points: - Community contributions are working away at log4j references, more for them being superfluous potential exposures than anything else. - The New Servlet wizard is up to date for Jakarta EE, but the Listener and Filter wizard need similar work done to them. - Most of the facets still need newer versions added for Jakarta EE 9. - Most repositories are still missing the EMO-mandated files. Those files are key pillars for supporting a development team and community. See you then! [wtp-dev] Reminder: ready for release office hours later today
Hi all, Today's session would usually be to discuss any last minute changes needed prior to our upcoming release. The current status is that we didn't have any calls for an RC2, so RC1 will be our release build and contents supplied to SimRel*. There are a couple of matters that *could* have justified an RC2, but fixes for those issues could not be completed in time. They'll be priorities in early 3.25 builds, along with some overdue maintenance and documentation updates. Our releng lead did a pass on simplifying our main downloads page, but there's a small bug we're still working on fixing in the final version. It shouldn't affect the ability to get the final downloadable P2 site for 3.24 proper. As usual, we'll be working our way through the Release Tasks* over the next week, but if anyone wants to discuss anything, feel free to drop in or reply here. [wtp-dev] Changes to 2021-12 and 3.24 schedules
Hi all, As detailed in https://www.eclipse.org/lists/cross-project-issues-dev/msg18653.html and https://wiki.eclipse.org/Category:SimRel-2021-12, the milestone and release dates for this release have been pulled forward a week to avoid the end of year holidays. I have made the adjustments to our build and test dates on our calendar, but I won't be moving the meeting schedule forward as there was already a weeklong buffer in place between the meetings and candidate builds. I'm not sure about restoring that buffer in the next release, but feedback will be taken into account. That means our first meeting/office hours for this release are still this Thursday. -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev
[wtp-dev] Office hours** for M3 tomorrow
Hi folks, A quick reminder that office hours are tomorrow**, as we would usually meet to discuss the candidate for M3. Here's what's going on with WTP 3.23: 1) The EMO has requested the addition of the now-mandatory files: README, LICENSE and CONTRIBUTING, to the main repositories, and to consider adding files: NOTICES, CODE OF CONDUCT and SECURITY. Doing so is a condition of closing out our 2021-06 Progress Review. The leads and committers on each project, knowing them the best, should author those using the Eclipse Project's repositories as examples. There's a documentation generator at https://www.eclipse.org/projects/tools/documentation.php?id=webtools (adjust for the appropriate project) for starting most of the files, and you can adopt the security and CoC files from https://github.com/eclipse-ee4j/.github if you find them agreeable. You can also look at the Source Editing repository if you're curious about what else you might want to include or change from the generated versions. 2) Jakarta EE* marches on, meaning we still need facets and support for: - CDI 3.0 - EAR 9.0 - EJB 4.0 - JAXB 3.0 - JAX-RS 3.0 - JPA 3.0 - JSF 3.0, with the standard itself possibly implemented by the Mojarra and Glassfish projects. I've done what I can to handle the Servlet 5.0 facet myself, but I don't know the rest well enough to add them. I'm seeing posts and questions about this pop up here and there, including our own forum. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=WebTools_format=advanced_whiteboard=jakartaee9_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr 3) It's time for a Java 17 Facet. Java 17's GA is set for one month from this Saturday, one day before 2021-09, and it's expected that packages will be *including* JustJ's Java 17 runtime. Maybe I'll see you during the open meet time, and/or you'll reply right here to discuss anything you like. Either way, until then! ** Due to a scheduling conflict, there's only a half hour this time. [wtp-dev] Office Hours? Again? Tomorrow.
Hi folks, A quick reminder that office hours are tomorrow, as we would usually meet to discuss the candidate for M3 and the shutdown process for the release. Here's what's going on with WTP 3.22: 1) WTP now contains the parts of Jetty 10 it needs above those provided in the Platform, and all known issues related to it have been resolved. We'll see if M3 reveals any more. 2) Jakarta EE 9 and above*: Bug 565498, about the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards could use some attention to make sure the correct packages are referenced when the jst.web facet (Servlet) version is 5+, or more broadly useful, in which package of the target project's Java Build Path the HttpServlet class is found. 3) For shutdown, we will have an RC1 to update our dependencies and work through anything found in the M3 EPP. RC1 changes should have Project Lead approval in the Bugzilla bug using the "review" flag. For RC2, we'll follow the process from https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_PMC_Defect_Review requiring both Project Lead and PMC +1 review. This is more flow control to get out on time than anyone saying not to fix things. 4) Expect some movement on retiring inactive Committers in the near future, along the lines of https://www.eclipse.org/lists/platform-dev/msg03000.html. [wtp-dev] Reminder: office hours TODAY
Hi folks, A quick reminder that office hours are today, but only for the first 30 minutes due to a scheduling conflict. Here's what's going on with WTP 3.22, which is expected to be part of 2021-06: 1) WTP now includes the parts of Jetty 10 it needs above those provided in the Platform. Jetty 10 is actually built as bundles, just not as a P2 site. There are a few more complications introduced by the additional bundles WTP uses, but we're at the point where we can package what's needed into a site under http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/jetty/ and have them included in our features so they're at least present on-disk when those features are installed. There is still a runtime dependency issue, https://bugs.eclipse.org/573485, to work through by release. Other projects are welcome to pull bundles from our repo if they also need ones not provided by the Platform. We'll do our best to keep the versions aligned with the upcoming release. 2) WTP's builds are now handled in JIRO (bug 568553). Many thanks to Nick and Fred for pushing that through. 3) Jakarta EE 9 and above*: Bug 565498, about the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards could use some attention to make sure the correct packages are referenced when the jst.web facet (Servlet) version is 5+, or more broadly useful, in which package on the Java Build Path the HttpServlet class is found. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=WebTools_format=advanced_whiteboard=jakartaee9_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr Maybe I'll see you during the open meet time, and/or you'll reply right here to discuss anything you like. [wtp-dev] Reminder: office hours TODAY
Hi folks, A quick reminder that office hours** are today. Here's what's going on with WTP 3.22: 1) The Platform now contains Jetty 10, requiring Server Tools changes. Jetty 9 had a complete update site for us to pull the additional bundles needed by WTP and not needed by the Platform. The Platform's method for getting their needed bundles in this release complicates matters for anyone downstream, not just because its release is already outdated. As mentioned in the thread starting at https://www.eclipse.org/lists/cross-project-issues-dev/msg18291.html, a request for help was sent to Platform Releng, without volunteers. 2) WTP builds moving to JIRO (bug 568553): Getting closer, and still a possibility for M2. 3) Jakarta EE 9 and above*: Bug 565498, about the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards could use some attention to make sure the correct packages are referenced when the jst.web facet (Servlet) version is 5+. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=WebTools_format=advanced_whiteboard=jakartaee9_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr I hope to see you then, and/or you can reply right here to discuss anything you like. Hi folks, Just a reminder that I'll have our conference call meeting room open at the usual time, joinable though Zoom. For more details, check https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2021-04-01. Here's what's going on with WTP 3.22: 1) Dali has a compile failure <https://bugs.eclipse.org/572274> that needs fixing. True, it only happens against Java 11, but Eclipse has required Java 11 since 4.17, so this probably means ugly breakage at runtime until it is fixed. I can provide guidance on ways to correct it, but I am not a Dali Committer. 2) Java EE has a compile failure <https://bugs.eclipse.org/572133> whose proposed fix <https://git.eclipse.org/r/c/jeetools/webtools.javaee/+/178127> needs review. It does not fix all of the failing unit tests, but those should be handled by a Java EE Committer. 3) The EMO and I haven't discussed reorganizing projects, but Common and Server Tools seem like bad candidates while Source Editing and JSDT seem like good candidates. The Glassfish Tools lead tells me that his team no longer has resources to update the Glassfish Tools, so unless someone expresses interest in developing them, that project will likely be archived this quarter (which is a shame considering Glassfish itself is still under active development). Java EE, Dali, and Web Services should probably talk amongst themselves about what, if anything, they want to do. 4) WTP builds moving to JIRO (bug 568553): Still a work in progress. It's a good place for someone who wants to contribute in a way other than working on code. Other projects are seeing the same limitations we are, and a little ahead of us in ferreting out solutions to them. 5) Jakarta EE 9 and above*: Bug 565498, about the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards could use some attention. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=WebTools_format=advanced_whiteboard=jakartaee9_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr I hope to see you then, and/or you can reply right here to discuss anything you like. [wtp-dev] Reminder: Office hour later today
Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that I'll have our conference call meeting room open at the usual time, joinable though Zoom. For more details, check https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2021-03-04. Here's what's going on with WTP: 1) There will be an RC2 today. I found a bug in that initial JSP support for Jakarta EE that renders content assist unavailable in Java sections in those projects. Bug 565328 has the necessary PMC Review information filled in, and links to the Gerrit and eventual Commit, as well. 2) WTP builds moving to JIRO (bug 568553): Still a work in progress. It's a good place for someone who wants to contribute in a way other than working on code. Other projects are seeing the same limitations we are, and a little ahead of us in ferreting out solutions to them. 3) Jakarta EE 9 and above*: Bug 565498, about the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards, is foremost on my mind--but it will have to wait until 3.22 as nothing has been prepared for it. 4) 3.21 Today's RC2 should be the last build for 3.21. Projects can and should tag their repositories for the release. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=WebTools_format=advanced_whiteboard=jakartaee9_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr I hope to see you later today, and you can reply right here to discuss anything you like. [wtp-dev] Reminder: Office "hour" tomorrow, and shutdown for 3.21
Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that I'll have our conference call meeting room open at the usual time, joinable though https://eclipse.zoom.us/j/6300031838 . For more details, check https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2021-02-18. I have a conflict after the first half hour, so it'll be shorter this time around. We're doing it a second week in a row because we'll have an RC1 candidate next week. Here's what's going on with WTP: 1) WTP builds still moving to JIRO (bug 568553): Still a work in progress. It's a good place for someone who wants to contribute in a way other than working on code. 2) Jakarta EE, 9 and above*: Bug 565498, about the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards, is foremost on my mind--but it seems like it'll have to wait until 3.22. The most visible part of the JSP work is complete; what remains has been spun off to a different bug for 3.22, as well. 3) M3 Tomorrow is our M3 candidate day. As normal, we'll rebuild if needed, but the smoke test candidate is always what we expect to contribute (optimism!). Check for "incoming reviews" on your Gerrit dashboard at https://git.eclipse.org/r/dashboard/self ; you can approve/critique and Submit changes to the main branch directly from the UI. 4) Release Candidates After M3 is declared, we always have an RC1. - Project Lead approval is expected for anything going into RC1. - PMC +1 is expected for anything going into RC2. We won't have an RC2 if nothing comes up. Good candidates would be issues that destroy the user's data or bring down the IDE. - JUnit tests are always fair game to fix. * https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?classification=WebTools_format=advanced_whiteboard=jakartaee9_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr Maybe I'll see you tomorrow, but as before, you can reply right here to discuss anything you like. Re: [wtp-dev] Reminder: Office Hour tomorrow
One addendum, since I only just noticed it, but there's a compile failure in JSF against Platform's M3. I've reported it as https://bugs.eclipse.org/571106. Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that I'll have our conference call meeting open at the usual time. Here's what's going on with WTP: 1) WTP builds still moving to JIRO: Good news: all the projects are buildable. Bad news: a number of them have failing tests. Somewhere in the middle news: Releng will be determining *how* to publish builds from JIRO, as mentioned in bug 568553, but our buildmeister could probably use a hand. It's not code, and I recall that sort of thing being a refreshing change of pace in the years I was largely away from WTP and Eclipse. 2) Jakarta EE, 9 and above: Jakarta EE 9 has GA'd. There's some progress being made against our Jakarta EE 9 query*, but there are a few items that could use some attention like bug 565498, regarding the Servlet/Listener/Filter wizards. I came across a Stack Overflow question from someone bewildered about the Servlet wizard generating a broken source file because it referred to the wrong API packages. If someone understands the way those wizards work, that information on its own would help whoever ends up tackling that bug. Shane, Yes, they were changed under bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/417874 and are shown on https://www.eclipse.org/webtools/releases/3.21/NewAndNoteworthy/ . It's a source structure used by both Gradle and Maven, and there's little reason for us to continue having a structure unique to our tools other than, "we've always done it this way". https://git.eclipse.org/c/webtools-common/webtools.common.git/commit/?id=77f89af55babf0fd8b09504e362752ebe6d7eccc https://git.eclipse.org/c/sourceediting/webtools.sourceediting.git/commit/?id=1a5c09a104fe93559a550d7ff054b44c0f9637ec https://git.eclipse.org/c/jeetools/webtools.javaee.git/commit/?id=4fbc8f4136ca948afa030f2b742ed371a4dbdeaf On Mon, Feb 1, 2021 at 9:52 AM Shane Clarke wrote: > Hi Guys, > > Has there been a maven project directory layout introduced for Dynamic Web > Projects in the latest builds? > > I was smoke testing this build against 4.19M1 and a Dynamic Web Project > now has a src/main/java and src/main/webapp directories and the WebContent > folder is linked to src/main/webapp. > > Getting NPE when generating a CXF client and "service definition selected > is invalid" errors when trying to generate a top-down web service (CXF) > with a wsdl file that was copied into the project. > > Anyone aware of what's changed? > > Thanks, > Shane > -- > *From:* wtp-dev-boun...@eclipse.org on > behalf of WTP Releng > *Sent:* Thursday 28 January 2021 22:16 > *To:* wtp-dev@eclipse.org > *Subject:* [wtp-dev] Smoke Test Candidate Build for wtp-R3.21.0-I: > S-3.21.0.M2-20210128163350 > > > > Download Page: > > http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/R3.21.0/S-3.21.0.M2-20210128163350 > > This build will be pushed to the Eclipse Simrel > aggregate site on Mon or Tues next week, assuming > that no one has voiced an objection on this list > beforehand. > > Smoke tests: > https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_Smoke_Test_Scenarios_R39 > > Past smoke test results: > http://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_Smoke_Test_Results > > ___ > wtp-dev mailing list > wtp-dev@eclipse.org > To unsubscribe from this list, visit > https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev > ___ > wtp-dev mailing list > wtp-dev@eclipse.org > To unsubscribe from this list, visit > https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev > -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev
[wtp-dev] Reminder: Office (half) Hour tomorrow
Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that I'll have our conference call meeting open at the usual time. I only have a half hour this week, though, due to a packed schedule. Here's what's going on with WTP: 1) WTP builds moving to JIRO: Good news: all the projects are buildable. Bad news: a number of them have failing tests. - Source Editing has new failures caused by a bump in the Xerces version from 2.9 to 2.12.1. I'll get them back down to 0 as soon as I can. Anyone who knows me knows that I do not like removing/disabling tests as a solution. - Releng needs to determine *how* to publish builds from JIRO. As mentioned in bug 568553, our buildmeister could probably use a hand. 2) Jakarta EE, 9 and above: Jakarta EE 9 has GA'd, and we have a facet version for it in place. Our Jakarta EE 9 query* has progress being made, but there is at least one more item I'd like to see completed in this release, bug 565498, regarding the Servet/Listener/Filter wizards. Who knows, maybe it's even time for them to be rewritten by an interested party. Also, the Jakarta EE Platform call now regularly includes what's going on for 9.1, but so far it seems minimal for tooling. 3) Java 16 is expected in March 2021, and our facet for it is in place. [wtp-dev] Not a reminder about tomorrow's now not-a-status meeting
Hi folks, For this release, I'm going to change things up and not just conduct the same status meetings we've been doing for years. There's an argument to be made that video meetings exclude people who aren't in the proper environment, in the right time zone, and equipped to take part, and that's never been the intention. Many of us, including myself, don't get to work on WTP as part of our day jobs, and freeing up that time during a work day can be difficult. Updates during this release about what's going on will be found here in the mailing list, in periodic emails right before the original time slots, which I'll instead leave open if anyone wants to dial in and discuss things or just socialize. Of course, replies to the mailing list are probably best, and I'll keep recording things in the wiki in case we find this doesn't work as well. 1) WTP builds are moving to JIRO: As we found during 3.20, UI tests no longer function on HIPP10 <https://ci.eclipse.org/webtools/view/webtools_CI/>(a.k.a. our existing build machine). Whatever combination of 3.18's changes caused it, the machine won't be upgraded, so we have no choice but to move to JIRO. For the sake of getting 3.20 out *at all*, most of our builds on https://ci.eclipse.org/webtools are no longer running their BVT. Thanks to quick work from Fred, we have jobs running at https://ci-staging.eclipse.org/webtools, but that has a few adoption blockers: 1. Java EE project builds are failing from compilation errors because they rely on a BREE of J2SE-1.4. JIRO does not provide that one, and does not plan to add it. Combined with BVT being disabled on the old build server, Java EE builds no longer have automated BVT being performed. J2SE-1.5 would get it building, but upping to JavaSE-8 or 11 would be preferred for long term maintenance. 2. Dali and Web Services have consistently failing tests. I haven't looked into all of their failures. 3. Releng needs to determine *how* to publish builds from JIRO. The FAQ isn't as clear, to me, about that as I'd like, nor how to run those same builds locally using the same containers that JIRO is spinning up. 2) Jakarta EE, 9 and above: Jakarta EE 9 has GA'd. While I intend to complete support for it in Source Editing (JSP), being your PMC Lead hasn't conferred any special commit rights to me for the other projects and repositories, nor a surfeit of time to spend on them. Committers on the other projects will need to engage to support Jakarta EE. Honestly I took it on originally so the rest of you could spend more time on the actual deliverables, less with processes for the Foundation. Thankfully, Larry implemented support for Tomcat 10 into this release, so we can create workspace projects to test those changes against. 3) Java 16 is expected in March 2021 --our highest facet version is currently 15. Java 17 is the next scheduled LTS release. Jakarta EE 9 doesn't have a newer Web/Servlet facet version, but 10 might. -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev
[wtp-dev] Reminder: Status meeting tomorrow, plus comments on ongoing build breakages
Hi folks, A quick reminder that we have a status call tomorrow, with the preliminary agenda up at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2020-12-03. With that out of the way, and for anyone who doesn't make the meetings or read the agenda, we've had builds failing because of failing UI tests during this entire release. Most of our builds on ci.eclipse.org/webtools are no longer running tests, which if you've ever asked me about how to handle failing tests, is something that I really HATE having had to do simply to get our release out the door. SWT no longer functions correctly on our build machine, so we have no choice but to migrate to JIRO-based builds. This will require effort from project teams that haven't been the most active for a few releases, so please, will those teams have a look at https://ci-staging.eclipse.org/webtools/view/webtools_CI/ and get us back on track? -- Regards, Nitin Dahyabhai Eclipse WTP PMC ___ wtp-dev mailing list wtp-dev@eclipse.org To unsubscribe from this list, visit https://www.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/wtp-dev

[wtp-dev] Any objections to removing JOnAS support in 3.20?
During semi-recent testing I've found that the hostname for one of our server discovery URLs, http://jope.ow2.org/update/jope/, no longer resolves. https://projects.ow2.org/view/jope/ indicates the project for the server adapter has been archived, their Jira and Gitorious instances appear to be non-functional, and https://jonas.ow2.org/view/Blog/ shows that it hasn't had a release since 2013--it does not support anything past Java EE 6 and that was the year Java EE 7 GA'd. The site offering its downloads, their GForge, was discontinued in 2018. [wtp-dev] Reminder: Status Call tomorrow, and about that M1...
Surprise! That there is a status call tomorrow shouldn't be a surprise, but a late M1 sure is! Constrained availability of our releng lead meant that some of the areas that needed updating to produce 3.17 builds weren’t completed in time. There will be no smoke testing of that build--it's there for adopters who were waiting for changes to be in a build that won't be deleted in a matter of days, and our M2 candidate is only a week away. As a reminder, though, when a milestone candidate is declared, each component should be running their smoke tests and replying loudly if they find a problem that merits a respin. Also, if you're not familiar with the panel on https://ci.eclipse.org/webtools/view/webtools_CI/, a build marked "Unstable" means you have failing unit tests or other problems with your build. Builds that fail unit tests should be an abnormality, so please, make some time to rectify them (preferably by fixing tests instead of disabling/removing tests). I'll see you tomorrow, cameras permitting. Re: [wtp-dev] Request assistance for Eclipse GlassFish Tools 1.0.1 Release Review
Hi Danny, Thank you for preparing this. Typically the process is that the PMC votes to approve a release (when a review is scheduled), so while I'm CCing the PMC mailing list to ease them into this, votes are actually recorded using the PMC approval flag built into our Bugzilla. I've set the flags on https://bugs.eclipse.org/549822 (it's part of the documented process in https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_PMC_Defect_Review) , but if you could make sure the project metadata on projects.eclipse.org and in the review doc is up to date and correct, that'd be great. [wtp-dev] WTP 3.15 RC1 ready to test!
Hi folks, Our RelEng Lead is taking a brief time off, so you'll have to suffer with a communique from me. Our RC1 candidate is ready for testing, and as we've ceased issuing formal smoke test requests and creating explicit results tables and pages, this mailing list will be the place to point out any new problems you find that would necessitate a respin of RC1, or even a subsequent RC2 build. I'll push the current contents of RC1 to the SimRel repo on Tuesday, per our calendar, if nothing is mentioned by then. https://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/R3.15.0/S-3.15.0.RC1-20190830034720/ At the same time, the EPP packages and repositories for 2019-09 M3 are now available (https://www.eclipse.org/lists/epp-dev/msg05565.html). Tester(s), please make sure to give your thumbs up/down so we're published; the N URLs in the download page will be corrected for RC1 if M3 appears wrong. Note that the Platform did not produce an M2 this release, so this combination does have changes even if some of our projects have contributed no changes since M2. If anyone's seeing painting noise when scrolling the text editors on Mac with 2-19-06, I believe we should be seeing the fix in M3. And FYI, our Marketplace entries' versions specific to 2019-09 will remain pointed at the EPP staging repository until the day before GA. Nick, Providing that we still have the "release" zips available from archive.eclipse.org, including for the patch versions, those interim builds should be safe to delete. On another topic, while I doubt this is a new problem, if I follow the "Archived Builds" link from http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads and seek out the R3.2.5 build, the individual download links on its build page fail because they still go through the mirroring download.php. There's a write-up of the process at https://wiki.eclipse.org/WTP_2019-01-24#Themes_for_WTP_3.13 for anyone that missed the meeting, and you can always ask questions, whether you've run into problems or not.
