[X2Go-User] Enhance Documentation for pageant etc

2023-04-04 Thread James Bowery
The "getting started" section:

doc:usage:x2goclient [X2Go - everywhere@home]

says:

Please enhance that to say something like:

> You could also just use an SSH agent if you've got that available. On

[X2Go-User] Expedite Windows x2go client close on loss of connection?

2021-09-23 Thread James Bowery
I frequently encounter connection interruptions. Each such interruption
results in the x2go client freezing for about a minute before the
notification window pops up to ask if I want to terminate the session or
not. Upon confirming, it then takes another minute before the x2go
window closes.

Is there any way grab the x2go client by the scruff of the neck and make it
go away the moment I notice it isn't responding to keypresses?

2021-09-12 Thread James Bowery
This morning the behavior changed: At least a window opened up showing my
remote desktop but, strangely, it's horizontal dimension was wide enough to
span both of my two monitors -- but another strange thing is that it was
shifted to the right monitor and half of the window was off to that
monitor's right. I could reposition the window to span both monitors and
do a little work, but when I tried to resize it, within a very short period
of time, the window closed. Moreover the log of this session, shown below,
indicates the timeout had occurred as it had on prior attempts to connect
(well before my window manipulations).

Re: [X2Go-User] "keyboard did not appear within 30s after agent startup"?

2021-09-11 Thread James Bowery
It is happening again. One fairly unusual phenomenon: When I after a
couple of attempts to reconnect it challenged me with a dialog showing an
xfce4 session -- asking me if I wanted to terminate it or select it. I
rarely see that window pop up. I clicked on the existing session, and once
I did that, subsequent attempts to reconnect -- although failed -- did not
present the session select window again.

There is no .x2goclient folder on my (Windows 10) system under my home

The .x2go folder doesn't contain any text files containing the -debug
option.

I'm at a loss as to how to correct this situation.

Re: [X2Go-User] Shared folder fails silently on client side?

2021-01-18 Thread James Bowery
I added the -debug to the commandline options via the menu and when I
restarted x2goclient it fails with the error window popup "X.Org Server did
not launch correctly after 4 tries. Please check your installation."

Frustratingly, it won't let me go into the same menu and remove the -debug
option. It will only let me click "OK" which exits x2goclient. Restarting
x2goclient leaves me in the same Hell.

[X2Go-User] Shared folder fails silently on client side?

2021-01-18 Thread James Bowery
For some reason the automounted shared folder is no longer being shared.
Moreover, manually mounting doesn't work either.

Yet there are no error messages in the X2Go CLient status window (Session
ID:... Server:... Username:... Display:... Creation time (is blank?) and
Status running).

I'm not exactly sure where to look on the Ubuntu server for diagnostics,
but it seems the client side should not be so silent under both automount
and manual mount.

[X2Go-User] Terminating session when connection drops takes a long time

2020-11-17 Thread James Bowery
As previously mentioned I have a flakey internet connection and must
frequently reestablish my x2go connection but this is compounded by a
problem:

When the connection is momentarily interrupted getting reconnected takes a
while because of strange behavior in trying to close out and reopen the
x2go session:

Click the x to close the window and I'm asked "No response received from
the remote server. Do you want to terminate the current session?" which is
not strange at all but when I click "yes" it doesn't do so immediately, but
can take quite a while. Other windows pop up with additional questions
depending on what I do to overcome the delay.

The closest thing I've discovered to this is an issue from 8 years ago:

https://x2go-user.x2go.narkive.com/4jvHBucc/session-resuming-after-disconnect-reconnect

Is there a configuration parameter or something I can set nowadays?

[X2Go-User] Clicking on other than window border doesn't bring it to the front

2020-11-15 Thread James Bowery
I'm wondering if I'm having trouble with x2go or with X11 or my kinesthetic
memory, but for the last few days, my reflexes to bring a terminal window
to the front by clicking on other than its border is being defied.

I have to click on the border to get it to come to the front.

Disconnecting and reconnecting (even with login) does not reset this
condition.

[X2Go-User] Ubuntu Directions to fix qt.qpa.xcb: X server does not support XInput 2?

2020-10-09 Thread James Bowery
Looking up

qt.qpa.xcb: X server does not support XInput 2

I discovered

https://community.rstudio.com/t/x2go-and-rstudio/29704/5

which linked to

https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:development:glx-xlib-workaround

but following the directions for Ubuntu, I get:

E: You must put some 'source' URIs in your sources.list

Moreover, the directions are for Ubuntu 14 and we're on 20, so I'm not even
sure the directions are up to date if, indeed, the problem with x2go still
exists after all this time.

[X2Go-User] Reconnection results in Major opcode of failed request: 88 (X_FreeColors)

2020-10-08 Thread James Bowery
After connection is restored, a program that had, during the outage,
plotted a graph, fails to show the graph on the x2go client with this
message:

X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource
denied)
Major opcode of failed request: 88 (X_FreeColors)

However, rerunning the program in the same terminal window succeeds.

[X2Go-User] Disconnect Acts Like CTRL-s Press

2020-10-04 Thread James Bowery
If I lose my internet connection, it seems to, in effect, press CTRL-s on
the remote terminal window. This is most frustrating as I will frequently
leave a process running over night only to discover in the morning that it
has paused execution.

Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?
