Re: [Xastir] maps help

2007-09-10 Thread Gerry Creager

I spent the whole bloody day working on personnel issues.

We've applied a liberal dose of bug-spray. CoRAID notified us that
they're sending a new RAID shelf and we should have it tomorrow. We'll
move the drives over (consensus is that the drives are fine, but the
shelf is ill) and restart things. Estimated down time < 1 hr.

I don't get to work from home this week. Wish I did to some extent.
However, I may have the opportunity to drive to Dallas... or Norman
OK... to meet with a colleague who went to a meeting I bypassed thinking
I was too busy. Had I known he was there, I'd have spent 3 days worth
of the University's money to get the chance to work with him on weather
models.

Re: [Xastir] maps help

2007-09-09 Thread Gerry Creager
I'm having significant RAID issues of late and we're hammering on the
vendor to help us resolve them. We've been real happy with the CoRAID
ATA-Over-Ethernet hardware... save for this one shelf. I'm hoping to
see a new shelf tomorrow and start the process of moving all the current
drives to the new box.

Whenever the shelf decides it's unhappy, it starts rebuilding the RAID.
We've not lost data but it doesn't write new data (or allow read
access to the RAID) while it's rebuilding. That's abnormal behavior and
we're not understanding it. Nor is CoRAID. We've worked thru the
troubleshooting with them patiently, but we're starting to play
hardball. As I'm going out for another 8TB of disk, and may have to
replace this 6TB shelf, we could be a blot on their record if they don't
do well for us, and soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I should have reported this earlier, but
I've been sorta busy with TS Gabrielle over the last couple of days.

Can someone who's running Ubuntu 7.04 help this guy? I'm not
familiar with Ubuntu so I don't know what tools you would use to
upgrade/downgrade packages.

I know there are Ubuntu users running Xastir with online maps
successfully, so we just need one or two of them to explain how.

There are also the Xastir wiki pages which talk about Ubuntu, which
might help you:

Today I can't seem to get WMSRadar, USRadar, or TXRadar to work with any of
3 virtual machines. On Ubuntu 7.04, I have Xastir 1.91 compiled on 6/30/07
from CVS using Imagemagick 6.2.4. The US and WMSRadar were working last
weekend (Sept. 2-3 time frame). I think the radar maps must be down because
they are not working on a Xastir build in OpenSUSE10.2, either, which was
compiled from CVS in late July, and it uses GraphicMagick.

The 3rd VM is brand new - Xastir 1.91 compiled today from CVS using Mandriva
One (Spring 2007). It is also using ImageMagick as opposed to
GraphicsMagick.

Hopefully if the radar maps start working again, we'll be able to discern
somethign useful.

I'm putting this back to the list 'cuz I'm an SuSE/Slackware/CentOS
Linux user, I can't help directly with Ubuntu.

To remind the list: He's getting black maps with some online map
servers, nothing at all with others.

Ah. That may be because of your ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick
version. What version of IM or GM are you using, and what OS and OS
version?

Try one of these fixes:

*) Switch to IM from GM, -or-
*) Switch to GM from IM, -or-
*) Try a newer or older package of IM or GM.

Depending on how they were compiled they may work for some images
and not others, or may not work with the colordepth of your display
because of how they were compiled. Also, Xastir doesn't have the
most complete code with respect to IM/GM and color depth of display.
FWIW I'm running 16-bit color generally, but still ran across this
problem when compiling GM from scratch. I had to add a configure
option to it and recompile it before it would display more than
BLACK.

[Xastir] maps help

2007-09-06 Thread Murry

Can someone help with online maps please.
When I go to the map chooser and select either;
Canada Topo 250k.geo or
Canada Topo 50k.geo or
TX Radar.geo or
US Radar.geo or
WMS Radar.geo
I don't get any maps.

If I select any of the terraserver items I get a black screen.
