[Xen-API] fresh xcp 1.6 & xenserver install fails on first boot (kernel not found).

2013-09-21 Thread mi...@bitblock.net
Hi - I posted the question to the xenserver install forum a couple days ago but
haven't had any luck (no reply). On the off chance that was the wrong place I'm
trying again here.

http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=337104

I've tried XCP 1.6 and the current Xenserver download.

I have installed both xen and xcp several times previously, but this is the
first time I've seen this issue.

The install completes as expected, and I'm asked to remove the media from the
dvd drive.

On reboot I get a page of gibberish. After pressing ENTER a few times I
noticed what I thought was text...

Could not find kernel image:
boot:

The hardware (I have used similar before) has an intel srcs16 RAID controller -
the controller is detected by the installer - the install seems fine - a rescue
linux disk (centos) can see the installed xcp.

Before I realized xenserver / xcp use gpt I thought maybe the issue was a bad
MBR - but that didn't help.

I can boot into a centos rescue and see the installed partition.

I tried installing xenserver and xcp to a usb stick to see if I was better able
to access the raid array after xenserver / xcp were running - that didn't help.

Any idea what I've done wrong or need to do to fix is appreciated.

Thank you!

Mitch

Re: [Xen-API] Can`t install SP1 via XenCenter

2014-02-06 Thread mi...@bitblock.net
FWIW I had the same issue, the pools that required it shows disabled indicating
they could not be installed.

Initially it would not work at command line but I have a hunch it might be that
I do not have DNS configured for the name resolution of the management
interfaces in my local domain – perhaps that’s an issue.

At command line the update applied fine.

The instructions were a little vague in my opinion… the UUID should probably be
referenced as “” and step 4 doesn’t (imho) indicate that running it ONCE
will apply to all pool members – I was prepared to run that bit multiple times
until I noticed it was doing it for me automatically ☺

All good here though.

Subject: [Xen-API] Can`t install SP1 via XenCenter

I`ve installed fresh XenServer (XenServer release 6.2.0-70446c) in XCP mode.
When I trying to upload SP1 http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX139788 to this
server via XenCenter it appears as disabled in server list. Why ?
