[Xen-devel] Beginner Information: Final 2015 Xen Project Document Day is Wednesday Dec 2
OUR THEME OF THE MONTH: Beginner Information We've seen an increase of interest from potential new users recently and we need to make sure that people can successfully get started with 4.6 using our current set of Wiki pages. We have been slowly replacing the "xm" references with "xl", but we could use people to read over many of the existing pages to make sure they still make sense with the latest release. Pages of special interest include: * Xen Project Beginners Guide (recently revised, but could use a read-through) * Getting Started * Xen Project Best Practices * Xen Common Problems And, of course, any other page which needs to reflect the realities of working with 4.6. More detailed information can be found in the TODO document (below). And, as always, feel free to add any other documentation which you believe to be necessary. All the information you need to participate in Document Day is here: http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_Document_Days Also take a look at the current TODO list to see other items which need attention: http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_Document_Days/TODO Please think about how you can help out. If you haven't requested to be made a Wiki editor, save time and do it now so you are ready to go on Document Day. Just fill out the form below: http://xenproject.org/component/content/article/100-misc/145-request-to-be-made-a-wiki-editor.html We hope to see you Wednesday in #xendocs! ___ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-devel

[Xen-devel] Unikernel Users Summit at Texas Linux Fest on Aug 21, presented by Xen Project
Docker and containers have gotten a lot of attention lately for their small size and easy deployment. But Unikernels offer even smaller sizes and huge advances in security! In the next generation of cloud, these are critical assets, so it is no wonder that Unikernels are beginning to draw serious interest. In this event held at Texas Linux Fest, we will first discuss why Unikernels are important for the future of our industry, and then developers and users of various Unikernel systems will talk about the details of using various Unikernels. This event is focused on users with little or no experience with Unikernels, so all are welcome to attend! Presentations will include HowTos for using OSv, Rump Kernels, MirageOS, and more. Xen Project is organizing the event because we seek to develop innovative technologies for virtualization and cloud. Many of these Unikernel systems have leveraged the Xen Project Hypervisor because we enable these small, secure workloads which will be needed in the next generation cloud, Internet of Things (IoT), and other new forms of computing. Join us at Texas Linux Fest during their Tutorial Day as we talk about using Unikernels! https://2015.texaslinuxfest.org/content/unikernel-summit Russ ___ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-devel

[Xen-devel] Document Day is Tomorrow, May 27
Reminder: Our project's Document Day for May is tomorrow! Theme for this month: No-Can-Do Without a HowTo, Part 2. Last month, we ended up creating a great new page describing Huge Page support. Can we top that this month? We've got a lot of good information in the documentation, but it isn't always in a form that will help someone use a particular feature for the first time. Or, sometimes the information is present, but it might need to be brought up-to-date. Some of these possible topics include: - OpenStack updates (lots of new work means we should review and update the OpenStack pages as needed) - Get up and running with Mirage OS - Booting with UEFI (see the TODO page for a link to a QA post about this) - Installing on ARM (need a basic HowTo; more and more people are trying to test Xen Project on ARM) - Using Xen Project with common applications (see the TODO page for a link to a QA post about Citrix Netscaler) - Any other niche topic which doesn't have a good HowTo-type doc page If you know anything about these or any other topic which needs to a good HowTo document, please join in tomorrow! -- Russ ___ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-devel

For example, check the TODO list (see below) for a list of pages which we know still feature the xm command instead of xl. Have you seen a page which needs updating? If you can't update it, please add it to the list under THE GREAT 4.5 CLEAN-UP on the TODO list. If we can identify and update these pages, we'll help new users tremendously. There are few things as bad as trying a command which does not exist and is not available. Let's not frustrate our newbies. [Xen-devel] Proposal: Xen Project Document Days for 2015
Folks, I am proposing that this year's Document Days schedule follow the rule we followed in the latter half of 2014: Doc Days will be scheduled on the final Wednesday of each month (barring conflicts with holidays). Particularly, I suggest the following dates: January 28, 2015 February 25, 2015 March 25, 2015 April 29, 2015 May 27, 2015 June 24, 2015 July 29, 2015 August 26, 2015 September 30, 2015 October 28, 2015 December 2, 2015 (due to holidays in November and December in multiple countries) If anyone would like to suggest a change to the rule, please reply. Otherwise, if you see a local holiday in the list above, speak up so we can consider rescheduling. Thanks, Russ ___ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-devel
Re: [Xen-devel] Xen 4.5 Development Update (RC4) - Documentation Updates
Lars, @Russell: you may want to update the XM to XL pages or create a new one and add your video I've updated the existing Wiki pages. I've also created an unpublished entry in the Video section of the XenProject.org website. Should we publish that now, or wait until release? [Xen-devel] Monday is the Last Xen Project Document Day of 2014
Monday, December 15, will be our last Document Day of the year. Given the 4.5 RC4 Testing scheduled for Wednesday of next week and the holidays which occur later in the month, we have scheduled Document Day for Monday. This is a great time to get our documentation ready for the new release. Have you added a new feature in this release? Make sure it is in the Wiki. Have you noticed pages which might be confusing for a new installation? Now is a great time to clean it up. Have you information on better integrating Xen Project with other projects? Share that information with others. All the information you need to participate in Document Day is here: http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_Document_Days If you get a few moments before Monday, please take a look at the current TODO list to see other items which need attention: http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_Document_Days/TODO Please think about how you can help out.
