[XFree86] XDarwin Alt key mapping on MacOS 10.2

2003-05-28 Thread MegaBight
Hi,
I am running XDarwin1.02/XFree86 4.0.3 on an Apple Powerbook G4 and
I cannot get the Alt key to work. I thought it was supposed to be bound
to the Option key by default but when am in X it does nothing. I need
to find a way to remap either the option key or the Apple Command key
to the alt key (keysym Alt_L ??).

Here is my xmodmap output:

xmodmap: up to 2 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x40), Shift_R (0x44)
lockCaps_Lock (0x41)
control Control_L (0x43), Control_R (0x46)
mod1Mode_switch (0x42), Alt_R (0x45)
mod2Meta_L (0x3f)
mod3
mod4
mod5
When I use xev to get event information on the option key I get:

KeyPress event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0xe1,
root 0x3a, subw 0x0, time 1838131499, (141,-162), root:(1114,293),
state 0x0, keycode 66 (keysym 0xffe7, Meta_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes: ""
KeyRelease event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0xe1,
root 0x3a, subw 0x0, time 1838132179, (141,-162), root:(1114,293),
state 0x8, keycode 66 (keysym 0xffe7, Meta_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes: ""
The command key event information is:

KeyPress event, serial 20, synthetic NO, window 0xe1,
root 0x3a, subw 0x0, time 1838245299, (97,-75), root:(1070,380),
state 0x0, keycode 63 (keysym 0xffe7, Meta_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes: ""
KeyRelease event, serial 25, synthetic NO, window 0xe1,
root 0x3a, subw 0x0, time 1838245383, (97,-75), root:(1070,380),
state 0x10, keycode 63 (keysym 0xffe7, Meta_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes: ""
What I need is a way to translate this key event information into an
xmodmap incantation that will give me ALT functionality on one of those
keys. The xmodmap documentation is pretty thin, I came up empty
searching the list archives, and I was not able to google up an useful
info either so I'm asking here. Any xmodmap-guru advice or pointers to
documentation/info on making this work are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Re: [XFree86] XFree-current does not work on VIA EPIA-M

2003-05-28 Thread David Bateman
Mel,

This is a stupid response and demonstrates more about you than the
chipset. Yes the via CLE266 chipset is underpowered, but the fact is
the C3 processors they are found with are as well. Their application
is low-end and low-power consumption tasks only. As well the tiny
motherboards these chips are found on means that you might only have
the space for one or even no PCI slots. There is no AGP slot on the
EPIA-M So you don't usually want to waste that PCI slot with a
graphic card (I have a Hauppauge PVR-250 in my one slot).

There is a via driver that Alan Houraine commited to XFree, so your
comment about support is also clearly wrong.

Now to answer the original question I'm also using a CVS version
of the module from a while back. Can't remember off-hand from when,
and I don't have this problem. However Sig 11 errors are usually
pretty easy to find. Just recompile the via_drv.o module with "-g"
flag and run the server under gdb from a remote console. Do a
backtrace when it crashs and if it crashed in the via_drv.o module
identify the exact line it crashed on. This should give all of the
info needed to correct this problem

Cheers
David

[XFree86] 1920x1200

2003-05-28 Thread Anders Joergensen
Hi,

I have some problems getting my X to show 1920x1200, which is the
primary display mode for my 24" LCD display.

I'm running

XFree86 Version 4.3.0 on a Redhat 9

According to XFree86.0.log my video hardware is Radeon 7500, which is
correct, but when it says

> (II) RADEON(0): Not using mode "1920x1200" (no mode of this name)
> (II) RADEON(0): Not using mode "1920x1080" (no mode of this name)

Does that mean that the video card doesn't support 1920x1200 and
1920x1080?

[XFree86] ScrollLock - ModeLock

2003-05-28 Thread Ivan Pascal
  Hi,

> I'd like to use ScrollLock to alternate between two different keyboard
> maps (English and one with lots of accented characters that are placed
> on various symbol keys).

To make some key a keyboard map switcher you have to tie a keysym
ISO_Next_Group to that key.

There are many such switchers already defined in
X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/group.
One can choose an appropriate switcher using XkbOptions option in XF86Config,
e.g.
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:rctrl_toggle"

Unfortunately the key you want is unusual for such task and there isn't such
switcher in xkb/symbols/group file. But you can use the file for examples.
And you can use the file xkb/rules/xfree86 as examples of XkbOptions.

You need to take any switcher inside xkb/symbols/group, copy it, change
the name of key (in 'angle brackets') to and give it new name
(in quotes after 'xkb_symbols' word) e.g. "sclk_toggle".

Then if you want it be selectable with XkbOptions, just add new string into
xkb/rules/xfree86, a string like
grp:sclk_toggle = +group(sclk_toggle)
(I hope you will find an appropriate place for it :-)

And now you can write in your XF86Config file
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:sclk_toggle"
and get the keyboard map switcher on ScrollLock key
