I have to admit, that from here (at home), I can't actually tell
you. It's the X server from Solaris 2.8.

On the other hand my home machine does has a man page for the
XtDisplay function from the programming toolkit. And that's running
XFree86 version 4.3.

The dtksh documentation is available at
  http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/816-0283/6m6pgrf71?a=view

but I'm fairly certain that for this problem, it's only relevant as an
interface to the Xt functions.

We're using perfectly ordinary ethernet. Before XtDisplay is invoked,
$DISPLAY is set to arum:0.0, as I'd expect.

> printerConfig?? What's Dtlp? Also, what value does $TOPLEVEL have
> at this point?

Dtlp is a a (really unpleasant) wrapper script for graphical printer
control under CDE.
$TOPLEVEL has the value "W0". Does that mean anything to you?

> Have you checked to see if that DISPLAY works as-is?

No, unfortunately, 0xd9158 isn't recognised by our X clients, which
just produce an "unable to open connection" message.

I'm fairly certain is the text representation of a Display *, and is
simply passed to other Xt functions, but since I don't know how to
program X, this doesn't help me much.

Ha, haha! hahaha! There's a reason I'm throwing myself on the mercy of
the mailing list ;-)

[XFree86] XFree86 calculates very low modes

2003-06-07 Thread Z_God
Hi,
I've got XFree86 4.3.0 with SuSE 8.2.
I've set it up to calculate the apriopriate modelines automaticly, this works
good for my normal resolution ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), but when a game for example
switches to a lower resolution, the refresh rate goes to 56Hz, which is
extremely low. How do I fix this? I'm using the driver from NVidia.
Thanks in advance, Z

My email address has changed. How do I make sure that I continue to
receive your mailings?

The easiest way to make sure you continue to receive our mailings at
your new address is to simply visit http://www.colonize.com and
register with your new address. If you no longer wish to receive our
mailings at your old address, simply send a blank email to the
unsubscribe address at the bottom of one of our past mailings.

The link that you have sent me does not work. What should I do?

We test all links prior to sending them out to ensure that they do
work. If you have America Online please be sure that you are using
the link labeled for AOL users. You can also type the address of the
link in if you are unable to use the link.

The page cannot be displayed / an error message appears. Now what?

If the page is not coming up our computer system may be temporarily
unavailable or it may be operating at maximum capacity. Please try
again at a later time.

What exactly is Colonize.com and is there a charge for using it?

Colonize.com is a service that notifies their customers of exciting
offers and promotions that are currently available on the Internet.
These offers are for discounted items, $ off amounts or free items.
We are not an Internet Service Provider. There is never any charge to
become a member of Colonize.com or to use our services. You are never
under any obligation to purchase any of the offers that we notify you
of. After all, they are just offers!

What if I do not have a credit card? Can I still participate in your
offers?

That depends on the individual merchants. Some of the merchants will
only accept credit cards but some do have alternate payment
arrangements. You'll need to check the offers that interest you to
determine this fact.

I am not a United States citizen. Can I participate in your offers?

Again, this depends on the individual merchants. You'll need to check
the site of the offers to determine which ones are available to
international residents.

I have a question about one of the offers. Who do I direct it to?

If you have a question about one of the offers that we have notified
you of you'll need to direct it to the merchant who is making the
offer. If you use the link that we provided to you for the offer,
you'll go to the site where you can find all the information for
contacting the Customer Service team of that merchant.

I would like to suggest an offer or comment on one of the offers that
I received, what should I do?

If you would like to suggest an offer or make a comment on one of the
offers you received, please send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] If a
reply is necessary, we will try to respond as soon as we can. Please
be patient though.

Can you tell me how the shopping spree works?

Usually, within 24 hours of registering for our service you will
receive an e-mail that details the shopping spree. Included in the
e-mail are links for each of the offers. You click on the links for
the offers that interest you. The links will open to the page that
displays the offer. You then follow the steps as they are outlined on
the site. Please be sure to read over the terms and conditions of the
offers to ensure a positive shopping experience.

How do I unsubscribe from this mailing?

The EASIEST way to unsubscribe is to click in the unsubscribe link

[XFree86] Problem with resolution

2003-06-07 Thread Stephan Kulka
Hello

I have installed Xfree 4.1 and my graphics card is supported and also
detected. I have got 1 MB videoram (yes, it's a very old card).

The problem is that I would like to have 800x600 (as I had it before
with 3.3.6) but there is an error message in the log file like:

bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan

and therefore 640x400 is used instead.

What's the problem here??

Thank you

Limit the range of refresh rates available by setting the "VertRefresh"
range in the XF86Config file, Section "Monitor". eg:

 VertRefresh 75-85

The server picks the highest refresh mode for normal operation,
but games that change the mode through the xf86VidMode extension
have the ability to set any of the available modes. This is a change
from earlier servers where they could only select between modes
explicitly mentioned in the XF86Config file. Subsequently, many
games just pick the first mode of a particular resolution assuming
it wouldn't be in the list unless you explicitly put it there
in the XF86Config. Ideal behavior for games would be if they
provided a list of available modes with refresh rates and indications
of double-scan, interlaced, etc... within the game's control panel.

Re: [XFree86] Rendition problem.

2003-06-07 Thread Eugene N. Denisov
Thanks to all who answer or read my messages! I done with it!
I think it is nt the right way, but... I realise that source structure of XServer is
not very pure :) So after several faults to build driver I decide to put it in its's
place in my /usr/ports/x11-servers/... So I replace old driver files and type make
and make install IN THAT place! Not the hole server but only the driver. And it`s
worked :)))

[XFree86] Help with random crash...

2003-06-07 Thread Alexander Thier
I am not sure how to attack this problem:
running Mandrake 9.0 with an Nvidia GForce2 mx200 on Xfree 4.2.1
Now all is well exept random freezes. Out of the blue i get locked
keyboard and screen but mouse-pointer still moves (mouse buttons dont do
anything). The only thing i can do is ssh from another box. Running top
i get X using 99% CPU (during this crash), killing X does not help i
have to reboot. Now the logs dont show anything at all, x stops logging
at time of crash. This happens no matter what windowmanager i use.
Any help is welcome.

[XFree86] GUI fail after install

2003-06-07 Thread Philip Walker

Dear all,

Many apologies if this is the most obvious and
simple problem.I am totally new to Linux but want to learn.

I have tried to install Linux 8 publisher's Edition
from the 'Red Hat Linux 8 for Dummies' CDs. This was supposed to install
with the full GUI interface. All seemed to go well until the reboot after
installation when it refused to start the graphical interface.
(Graphics were used during the install
process)I am struggling with the command line but have managed to copy the
log file and attach it to this message.

System: Made from second hand and salvaged
parts:M/B: Supermicro 370SLM, Celeron 333MHz, 96MB RAM, 2.1G HDD,ATI
Mach64 2MB, Unknown make monitor - works as VGA/SVGA on other
systems,Samsung 32x CD, Generic network adapter,  3.5" FDD, Genius
netmouse pro PS2 mouse, PS2 keyboard.

I think the HDD may be a bit small - the install
size was supposed to be 1.8GB?

Thanks (I'm having to use Windows for
now)

This is why XFree86 is not using acceleration - it's been told not to.
I'm not sure if FreeBSD includes IGP support, though. Red Hat and Debian
certainly do (and Debian now has a FreeBSD option).

[XFree86] mga on 4.3.0?

2003-06-07 Thread Ryan Underwood
Hi,

Is anyone having success using a MGA G400 with DRI on 4.3.0? Ever since
I upgraded to the preliminary 4.3.0 debian packages from a working 4.2.1
installation, texturing simply is not working. Simple poly programs
like glxgears run fine and are fast, but running something like quake
produces the correct poly output, but the textures are all corrupt and I
get errors in the console about texture uploads failing.

Any ideas or input would be appreciated. I'm also still trying to track
down a hard machine hang that occurs randomly upon exiting a SDL 3D
program with the G400 driver, but I can't really get much further
debugging that until I figure out what the texturing problem is.

Thanks,

XFree86 4.) and higher do not support this adapter at anything more than
depth 8 (256 colours). See README.ati.

[XFree86] Starx/XF86cfg

2003-06-07 Thread Kelley Hilborn
When setting up an OpenBSD system, I ran across a problem while trying
to
configure X. I ran XF86config, and set everything up to what I thought
were
the correct settings. However, when I typed startx, all I got was a
blank
screen with a blinking cursor. And I couldn't get back to a shell no
matter
what keys I pressed. Then I tried to run XF86cfg, and I got the same
screen.
Any ideas? I've attached two logs from /var/log
XFree86.0.log
XFree86.8.log

I hope someone can help me out.
