I have a trident cyberblade i1 (compaq Evo N150 laptop, X detects a

With the drivers from http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh (dated 05-Sep-2003) I
can use XVideo once or twice (via mplayer1.0pre1-3.2.2), so it runs OK and
smoothly. But if I try again a few minutes later, I get a mainly green screen
(freezed), while audio part is going it's way. I can still watch movies with
the x11 output, but it's then very slow (if I want real fullscreen).
The only way of getting things back is to restart X.
Is this a known bug ?
I recommend that you try another Xv-aware application first, MPlayer has
been a bit flaky lately.

Yes. You should use unofficial patches.

Will not work in my end!

Dual-user works for me since APR-2002 and triple user since SEP-2002. This
mean 1 AGP and 2 PCI video adapters. Also 2 PS/2 keyboards, 1 USB keyboard,
2 serial mice, 1 USB mice.
This system runs with Nvidia video adapters only and Nvidia closed source
drivers. This one allow run two GLX applications (like Quake3) run
simultaneous.
Linux already can serve multiple sound cards. So I use 3 sound cards.

Each user has X server, sound device. Each user has video adapter,
keyboard,
mouse, sound card.

http://startx.times.lv/
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/XFree-Local-multi-user-HOWTO/

Advantages:
Cheap full independ second (triple) head.
CPU power utilization.

Disadvantages:
Unfortunately applying the kernel patch and system set up is not easy task.
GLX performace is not wery good if 3 instances of Quake3 run simultaneous.
User's workplace must be placed near each, because cables are short.
Some video adapters are enemy by default and will not run simultaneous.

Yep. I have success report about system with 4 concurent X servers (Inet
cafe
or similar).

You can use any distro.

[XFree86] GRAAH! Andrew still smash!

2003-10-06 Thread Andrew A. Gill
OK. So I've gotten XFree86 recompiled. I don't see any more unsupported
relocation errors, but--

I still get the same sig11. XFree86.0.log is attached. I also still get
this error:

XIO: fatal IO error 54 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

Please tell me I don't have to have APM support built into my kernel. I
just recompiled XFree86. I really don't want to recompile my kernel.

Same problem here under NetBSD 1.6ZC (-current), with XFree 4.3.99.13
(-current). I have lockup errors if acceleration is enabled, but it
work fine witout.

[XFree86] Radeon 8500 DVI + L70a

2003-10-06 Thread Alex Deucher
You might want to try CVS. there have been numerous important fixes to
the radeon driver since 4.3.0 was released.

Alex

Hi, I sent this earlier, but afaict it didn't go through.

I have a radeon 8500 connected to a Hyundai L70a through DVI in
Redhat9, and
have somehow managed to break X. I know for certain that I am unable
to run
4.3.0, so had been settling for something lower (4.2?). If you know
how I
can fix X, or a way to run 4.3, I would be very grateful. My error log
is
attached.

Also, as a very unrelated and much less important (though maybe more so
for
you guys...) note, I wanted to mention that whenever I switch to full
screen
hardware animation there is a horizontal glitch about an inch tall,
running
across the screen, like the picture was paint on a plate and someone
had
dragged a bunch of toothpicks across. Let me know if you need a better

description, and I will respond when I can get back into X.

Thanks,
Adam

[XFree86] dual-head - dual-user question

2003-10-06 Thread Alex Deucher
you can't really do this be default. check out this howto:

http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/multiuser/

Alex

-

Hi,
Can XFree86, with any known graphics hardware configuration, handle
two
separate users running two separate XFree desktops on the same PC?
These two
users would log in separately, but share machine resources. ssh is not
an
option.

The best solution, in my mind, would be if a single dual-head
graphics
adapter could be used such that one user is on one monitor and the
other
user is on a second monitor.

Less compelling, but still acceptable in my specific case, would be
a
second graphics adapter, PCI-based, that displayed the second desktop.

Is anything like this possible? Can the two monitors be considered
as two
completely separate displays by XFree?

If it matters, I had intended to run Gentoo Linux if I can.

Thanks,
Mark

[XFree86] Trouble with side buttons on Intellimouse Optical

2003-10-06 Thread Michael E Rosenberger
I have done all the configuration of my microsoft intellimouse optical that I
could find, I I still do not have side button functionality. The current
configuration is:

 My XF86Config-4 mouse section:

 Section "InputDevice"
 Identifier "Mouse1"
 Driver "mouse"
 Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
 Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
 Option "Buttons" "7"
 Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"
 EndSection

I have a file 'Autostart' in the Autostart directory of .kde that has:

 #!/bin/sh
 imwheel -k -p -b "67"
 #!/bin/bash
 xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"

 and I have /home/me/.imwheelrc with:

 ".*"
 None, Up, Alt_L|Left
 None, Down, Alt_L|Right

I can't get any side button events to show in xev, I have tried both IMPS/2
and ExplorerPS/2 protocalls, with no results.

These are all the suggestions I could find from searching the web. Hopefully
someone on the mailing list will have a better solution.

Thank you in advance,
Michael

Re: [XFree86] Help to solve problem with X

2003-10-06 Thread Mark Vojkovich
You need to configure the X-server. Presumably ASPLinux
has some utility to do that? Currently it is configured for
a dual card system with two Matox cards, however you have
one single NVIDIA TNT2 card.

If ASPLinux doesn't provide a utility. "XFree86 -configure"
may generate a useable XF86Config file.

It's using the wrong driver. Change Driver "vesa" to Driver "nv"
in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file.

[XFree86] Configuring 4-heads with Radeon RV2P

2003-10-06 Thread Jason Kim
Hi there..

I'm currently trying to configure four screens with Radeon RV2P which
has 2 heads. (using kernel 2.4.20-20, X 4.3.0-33)
When I configure two heads (using only one card), it is working well.
But, when I configure 4 heads (using two cards), X just crashed with
following warning in log file:
(WW) RADEON(3): Only one monitor detected, Second screen will NOT be
created

I'm using the same monitors. Is there anyone who successfully
configures four screens with Radeon RV2P?

any advise appreciated..

Jason

[XFree86] Problems w/ radeon driver

2003-10-06 Thread James Tanis
Just installed a new ATI Radeon 9800. Both XFree86's radeon and ati
driver return an error along the lines of, can't find the listing for
the video card in pci slot so-and-so. I figured, between the radeon man
page in FreeBSD and the pure fact that this card is somewhat new that it
just wasn't supported. Then I noticed that under the resource page it
seems to claim full accelerated supported for all radeon chipsets
(opposed to what the man page claimed).. so I am just trying to find
out.. is it supported in 4.3.0 or not.

Re: [XFree86] Configuring 4-heads with Radeon RV2P

2003-10-06 Thread Fernando Álvarez-Uría
Hi Jason:

Ive read your post, and maybe you can help me whith something similar:

I have a laptop which has a screen plug (db15). If i turn on the laptop,
the screen that works is its lcd pannel. If i turn it on whith an
external screen pluged into the db15, that screen works, but not the
lcd. Also, if im using the lcd, i cannot plug an external screen to the
db15 whithout rebooting.

When i run X, in the /var/log/XFree86.0.log file appears:
...
Display plane A is disabled
Display plane B is enabled
...
I think this is something related to that.

Do you know how can i switch from an external screen to the lcd, and
vice versa (whithout rebooting :D)
Also do you know if it is possible to use both at the same time? It
would be great for presentations, where the projector is plugged, but
you need to look the screen at the same time.

If you know any document where i can find some information, i would
appreciate it.

Thank you.

James,

It 'should be', although I'm having crash problems with another
'supported' Radeon chipset for my IBM T40.

The closest I've seen for suggestions was a post to another person
that they may want to upgrade from CVS, as there have been a number of Radeon
improvements since 4.3.0. I was planning on trying this tonight/tomorrow.

Keep in touch if you hear anything else. I'll let you know how my
progress is going.
