Mozilla assumes unassigned chars in iso10646-1 FreeType fonts as assigned with XF4.4.0 trunk
Hi! Is anyone else seeing the problem that Mozilla now renders glyphs in iso10646-1 fonts which are not assigned (normally Mozilla scans iso10646-1 encoded fonts for valid glyphs via looking at non-zero width metrics and puts those glyphs into it's internal CCMap), e.g. the glyph 0 is rendered. This changes the configuration, only for Debian, such that the manpages end up in the right places with the right names. If you have one of these, the algorithm you describe wont help :-( It seems the font isn't broken - pfaedit doesn't show the squares - and Xfree86 on SuSE8.2 don't show this problem either. I filed a bug report under http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=975 (Mozilla assumes unassigned chars in iso10646-1 FreeType fonts as assigned with XF4.4.0 trunk), including a test case and a screen dump from Xvfb ... likely a regression since older versions of Xfree86 did not show this behaviour (and I guess this is issue is very serious since it will render all UTF-8 encoded web pages unreadable in the case that mozilla finds fonts with many unassigned glyphs before other iso10646-1 fonts). Hello. There have been some recent fixes to a couple of via problem that has not gone into CVS. More specifically Bugzilla 525 patches 770 857 Bugzilla 945 These patches have been tested and discussed quite extensively on the viaarena forums and seem to work well. Would be good to have them in CVS. Regards Thomas ___ Devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/devel
Debian patches
I was messing around with the Debian packages a that are in the 4.3.0 Debian packages and trying to apply them to 4.3.901. I came across one that applied that I thought was already done. Does DPMS on ati radeon work in the 4.3.901? I could not find the bug in bugzilla that used to be associated with this problem even when I searched closed bugs. wt -- Warren Turkal President, GOLUM, Inc. http://www.golum.org ___ Devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/devel

[I18n] TextProperty to TextList conversion problem on euckr locale
I make utf8 text file for test. It contains utf8-encoded ksx1001(ksc5601) chars. When I convert it to EUC-KR with iconv, no conversion error occur. On X environment, I made TextProperty from Xutf8TextListToTextProperty and I converted the generated text property to the TextList by calling XmbTextPropertyToTextList. On UTF-8 locale, there was no error. But on ko_KR.EUC-KR locale, some errors occured. Almost chars converted successfully, but below chars did not: Unconvertable: U+00B7 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00A8 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00AD [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B1 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00D7 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00F7 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B0 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00A7 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B4 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B8 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00A1 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00BF [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00A4 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B6 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+20AC [(3)] Unconvertable: U+00AE [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00C6 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00D0 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00AA [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00D8 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00BA [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00DE [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00BD [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00BC [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00BE [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00E6 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00F0 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00F8 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00DF [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00FE [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B9 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B2 [(2)] Unconvertable: U+00B3 [(2)] I think this is not desirable result. Above chars are define in ksx1001, so iconv converts them correctly. But on X, it fails. Is it right behavior? So I made small test case code and attached those files. You can reproduce this problem by following this instructions: $ gmake $ LANG=ko_KR.UTF-8 ./conversion utf8.txt # no error $ LANG=ko_KR.euckr ./conversion utf8.txt # error $ iconv -f utf8 -t euckr utf8.txt /dev/null # no error PS. I would like to try the new maps in pc directory; all I need is to change the XF86Config from: Option XkbLayout br to: Option XkbLayout pc/br No. Those XkbModel, XkbLayout, XkbOption are another abstraction level and they are being mapped to files names using XkbRules. The rules file in 4.3.0 is also rewritten and maps layout names to 'pc/[layout name]'. (Since you have XFree 4.3.0 you can check it running setxkbmap program with '-print' option.) On the contrary to make the server get the keymap file from symbols directory is a bit tricky. If you want to use such old file you need to add the layout name into the list of 'old layouts' in xkb/rules/xfree86 file. OK, I noted that rules/xfree86 changed a lot since the last time I read it :) I copied all xkb directory of 4.4 beta to /etc/X11 to be sure it is clean, without my personal modifications. My XF86Config and the output of the setxkbmap -print are as follows: Section InputDevice Identifier Keyboard0 Driver keyboard Option XkbRules xfree86 Option XkbModel abnt2 Option XkbLayout br EndSection [EMAIL PROTECTED] iga]$ setxkbmap -print xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include xfree86(abnt2)+aliases(qwerty) }; xkb_types { include complete }; xkb_compat{ include complete }; xkb_symbols { include us(pc101)+br }; xkb_geometry { include pc}; }; Humm, it is using the old scheme for the symbols... and the geometry is wrong. So I tried to change the XF86Config to: Section InputDevice Identifier Keyboard0 Driver keyboard Option XkbRules xfree86 Option XkbModel xfree86(abnt2) Option XkbLayout br EndSection [EMAIL PROTECTED] iga]$ setxkbmap -print xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include xfree86+aliases(qwerty) }; xkb_types { include complete }; xkb_compat{ include complete }; xkb_symbols { include pc/pc(pc105)+pc/br}; xkb_geometry { include pc(pc104) }; }; Now the symbols is in the new scheme, but the keycodes seems to be wrong... and the geometry changed, but it is still wrong. So my doubt is: you want XKB to use the old scheme as default to maintain compatibility, or the new scheme? For instance, which one do you want for 4.4? ! model layout = symbols abnt2 br = us(pc101)+br or abnt2 br = pc/pc(pc105)+pc/br ? I suppose that the answer is the $pcmodels variable, using the line below to configure the symbols... Could you explain me what is $pcmodels variable? ! model layout = symbols $pcmodels * = pc/pc(%m)+pc/%l%(v) I read in README.enhancing that %l is the layout and %v the variant, and I suppose that %m is the sub-model (as abnt2 inside the xfree86 model). Am I right? BTW, the Japanese map is missing in the pc directory... I left some maps unconverted for different reasons. Frankly speaking I don't remember why the Japanese map is one of them (probably because it has a separate rule in the rules file). On the other hand nobody complained. :) I will add such keymap some day. Well... Let Japanese people solve their problem :) Thanks again, and sorry for the long mail. PS. [XFree86] SiS DRI
hi all, last week i compiledinstalled xfree 4.3.99.901 on my gentoo 1.4 machine to test the new sis dri driver included( i have a sis 630 graphics card). but when i try to startx glxgears the whole machine crashes. glxinfo reports direct rendering to be correctly enabled. i think the problem could maybe be the drm kernel modules which are for 4.3 in the 2.4.23 kernel :-/ i tried both the modules compiled into the kernel or as a module and i also tested the xfree-drm 4.3.0r7 package for gentoo but it simply doesnt work :( . another thing i tried was to compile agpgart either as a module or into the kernel but this also showed no success. maybe anyone of you knows how to get dri to work on my machine... btw dri worked with the old dri driver of xfree 4.2. thx for help Steve ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

[XFree86] problem with graphical card i815
We use Mandrake 9.2 (kernel 2.4.22) and the last i810 drivers. we can't get a resolution more than 640x480 under linux but everything runs OK under windows XP. We try to check the Xf86Config-4 : Mandrake set the display subsection as VIRTUAL and get then a virtual desk of 1024x768. We set the subsection to MODES and MODELINE corresponding to a higher resolution but XFree seems to crash and get back to the 640x480. On first attempt to configure X Server Monitor and Resolution I played with all these settings and never got satisfactory results. HTH Michael Not sure what would be going on here. Alan Hourihane has synced the XFree86 SiS driver with DRI CVS recently, but the differences between the two now shouldn't have caused that crash (the worst I could imagine would have been failure in some corner case with multitexturing). The DRM used shouldn't matter, and I think I've tested all the options (PCI, AGP, with/without sisfb) since the last time I touched the DRM. Is your DISPLAY environment variable set to something bad? You should probably set it to :0.0. This really sounds more like a problem with your shell than with anything server related. Mark. Re: [XFree86] Apple Cinema Display 23 / Nvidia Quadro / Linux Debian Xfree 4.3
Yes, it should work. I assume you are using the nv driver that came with XFree86 4.3. A modeline like the following should work. Modeline 1920x1200 193.16 1920 2048 2256 2592 1200 1201 1204 1242 XFree86 4.3 has some autodetection problems (the 4.4 pre-releases are better in this respect), so you often have to do some XF86Config file magic with flat panels. Try adding to the Section Device: Option FlatPanel If that doesn't work, then also try: Option CrtcNumber 1 If you can't get it to work send me your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file. Mark.
