Hi Mark,

GinGin64 was an unsupported technology preview of a port of Red
Hat Linux 9 to AMD64. It was intended to let AMD64 users be able
to sample the current state of the Red Hat Linux OS on the
platform. That said, there are likely many bugs that you'll
stumble across, and there are no official updates or bugfixes
available as it was not an official OS release.

Having said that, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 is now available
which officially supports the AMD64 architecture, and
within the next week or so, Fedora Core 1 for AMD64 will be
released as well. The XFree86 included in Fedora Core 1 includes
a great number of stability, performance, security fixes, and
other enhancements over previous OS releases, including the
unofficial GinGin64 technology preview.

I have fixed the AGP/PCI autodetection in the radeon driver for
good in our latest bits. You might wish to upgrade to the new
release once it is available, as you'll likely find the system
runs much smoother.

Hope this helps.

You mean there is a distribution that actually plans on shipping

This is indeed an XFree86 bug. A few weeks ago David posted a
patch to attempt to fix it, however that patch didn't work.

I added some debugging patches to the server and tracked the
problem down and fixed it in the latest Fedora Core development
XFree86 builds.

You can grab the latest Red Hat XFree86 src.rpm from rawhide and
extract the relevant patch if you like.

Hope this helps.

P.S. On a side note, before anyone asks ... I'd have submitted
my fix in bugzilla, however nobody was motivated to respond to
any of my emails on the subject of this bug over the last few
weeks while I was trying to help find a solution, so I am not
motivated to go out of my way to submit a patch either. Two way
street.

[XFree86] Radeon 9200: DRI on one head and 2d on second head ?

2004-03-01 Thread Dominique Dumont
Hello

I'm trying to setup an ATI Redeon 9200 card for a multimedia PC.

The goal is to be able to connect a video projector on the DVI head
(screen 1) and the monitor on the main head (screen 0). And my kid
would be rather disapointed if he can no longer play with gltron on
the main screen, so I need a working DRI on the main head.

With Xfree 4.3.0, I am able to setup DRI on one head, *or* set up a
dual head (2 screens setup).

But in the latter case, the DRI is disabled: Radeon driver does not
support DRI with dual head setup even if the NoAccel option is set in
the second Device.

IS this statement correct or did I miss something ?

So I was considering to set up a single head configuration for X on
the main head and set up a frame buffer on the second head.

Thus I could use directly the -vo fbdev and display the video directly
on the second head without going through X.

Is that possible ? (OK, I'm drifting off-topic)

Does anyone have a pointer and how to set up a radeon frame buffer on
the second head ?

Thanks for any help.

[XFree86] Kdrive and Elotouch

2004-03-01 Thread Matt Lueck
I'm trying to use the kdrive Xvesa server with an Elotouch touchscreen.
With normal XFree86 this requires you to load the xf86Elo.so module in the
XF86Config file. My understanding is that Kdrive doesn't use this config
file and all options are passed via the command line. Is this the case?
Has anyone used a touchscreen with Kdrive/is it possible? Thanks for your
help.

Hi all !

I'm trying to make X 4.3.0 running on my Toshiba T2100CT (486-DX2 50MHz)

Everything works fine with svga or framebuffer (easily, no modelines at

I tried a thousand of different modelines settings (found on many web
sites) but I no one succeeded in syncing with de LDC.

I also tried the different options UseModeline and FixPanelSize

I always have a wavy screen (like when we see computers screens on TV
broadcast) and X freezes : I have to switch off the computer.

The screen is black, with some color dots (say 10), and when I switch
CRT/LCD 4 times to come back to the LCD screen, it becames blue (wich is
the desktop color), but the bad timings are the same )-:

I really don't know what to do, after a few weeks of searching how to
make it work (fb is reeally slow on this machine) )))-:

If you have any idea, any suggestion...

Thank you for helping me investigating !

No. But the new licence is not considered to be acceptable from most
people involved in distributions.

For instance, Debian maintainer (Branden Robinson) will not package
Xfree4.4 will its new licence.
