Re: [XFree86] Maximum refresh rate unavailable using nvidia driver
You have a TNT2. It's probable that this card doesn't officially do 1600x1200 @ 85Hz when in 32bpp. The "nv" driver ignores the specs and will try to do it anyhow, though. When the "nv" driver does that do you get static when moving windows around and such? NVIDIA's drivers print out: (--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 8 bpp: 250 MHz (--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 16 bpp: 250 MHz (--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 32 bpp: 215 MHz which probably prohibits running that mode, which probably needs a pixel clock of 230 or so. It probably works in depth 16 though. Mark. [XFree86] ATI Rage Mobility AGP 2x with XFree86 4.4
The XF86Config is attached for reference. I am using FreeBSD 5.3 and trying to install XFree86 4.4. I currently am running XFree86 4.3 (so I can write this email :) The attached file works and has worked with 4.0 - 4.3 of XFree86. On 4.4 starting xdm yields a black screen with no errors logged to /var/log/XFree86.0.log. xdm starts and can be canceled. The hardware is a Dell Inspiron 7500 circa 10/99. The problem seems to track the ATI Rage Mobility card as another FreeBSD user with the same card on an IBM ThinkPad is having the same symptoms. >From pciconf -lv: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:0:0: class=0x06 card=0x chip=0x71908086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82443BX/ZX 440BX/ZX CPU to PCI Bridge (AGP Implemented)' class= bridge subclass = HOST-PCI : [EMAIL PROTECTED]:0:0: class=0x03 card=0x009e1028 chip=0x4c4d1002 rev=0x64 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies' device = '01541014 Rage P/M Mobility AGP 2x' class= display subclass = VGA Is this a know problem? [XFree86] Maximum refresh rate unavailable using nvidia driver
Hi, I just purchased a refurbished IBM P202 monitor (a rebranded Sony trinitron). According to the specs, this monitor has a maximum refresh rate of 85hz at 1600x1200 resolution. However, using the nvidia driver I can only get [EMAIL PROTECTED] When I switch to the nv driver I'm able to get 85hz, but this is sub-optimal because video performance is poor under the nv driver. The nvidia driver apparently rejects the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mode on startup, giving the reason "bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan". My full Xfree86 log is attached below. I'm running Debian unstable with a 2.6.7-1 kernel. Anybody have any idea why this happens with the nvida driver and not the nv? Or is there a more appropriate forum for this question? Re: [XFree86] Problem with Dual Monitoring
I can't get any AGP Card to run as a primary, my bios has the Option but it doesn't do anything. I have 2 S3 Cards here and none of them work as Multiscreen, I can't even set the both card in a Multiscreen System. Tomorrow I will get a Voodoo 3 2000 (PCI) Card to try. Hopefully it will work. Thanks Ben From: Mark Vojkovich <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [XFree86] Problem with Dual Monitoring Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2004 10:50:33 -0700 (PDT) When you ran the "nv" driver with another card in the system, was the NVIDIA card the primary card (ie. the one the console comes up on)? If not, could you try it as the primary? There is likely an option in the motherboard bios for that. I've not heard any problems pertaining to running the "nv" driver when other cards are in the system. On the contrary, I've always heard that it works fine, and I have my own dual card system working fine. What's more common is the S3 driver not working in multicard situations - a frequently reported problem. Can you send me the logfile from the "nv" driver? The "nv" driver should work without problems as the primary card regardless of how many other video cards are in the system. The same is true as a secondary card as long as a CRT is used. The "nv" driver doesn't support the DVI interface on secondary cards (though sometimes it works anyway - it depends on the video bios). Mark. Re: [XFree86] startx problems
It appears to be using the wrong driver. In your /etc/X11/XF86Config file you want to remove Driver "tseng" and replace it with Driver "i810" Mark. Re: [XFree86] Problem with Dual Monitoring
When you ran the "nv" driver with another card in the system, was the NVIDIA card the primary card (ie. the one the console comes up on)? Mark. [XFree86] Configuring Xfree86 for MIPS
hi, i was trying to compile the Xfree86 4.4.0 to use with a MIPS based board. i tried to make it with make World but the png.h file is missing, i tried on our FTP site also but no go. So i request you to kindly send that file to me. can u also give me the steps for configuring and building the Xfree86 4.4.0 for a mips based board. Do i have to build a cross compiler for this. ( i have already created a tool chain for MIPS - so should i be using that cross compiler for compiling the source.). Looking forward for immediate your reply. Re: [XFree86] Problem with Dual Monitoring
Oh I tryed with the "nv" drivers but if I use them with another graphiccard in the PC the System craches, real System freeze. If I only have my nvidia Card in the PC and use the "nv" Driver the System runs fine. The Log file doesn't say anything useful. We can help get the "nv" driver that comes with XFree86 working though. Try using the "nv" driver instead. Mark. [XFree86] Configuring a Radeon 9000 (M9)
Hi All, I am trying to configure my Radeon 9000 (M9) (in a Dell latitude D600) for best graphics performance. I believe that my primary problem is that I don't really know what features (and hence driver) I need to get the performance I want. I have successfully run the proprietary ATI (tainted) driver, and certainly, the look and performance was better. However, I have encountered some odd behaviour in KDE which, it has been suggested, may be due to the ATI driver, so I am trying to run without it. Therefore I am trying again to find an optimal setup using an open source driver. My Hardware is: Dell Latitude D600, 512Mb RAM Intel Pentium-M 1.6 Mhz ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (M9) with 32Mb RAM My software is: Linux: RedHat 9.0 (kernel 2.4.20-8) Xfree86: 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.3.0-2) KDE: 3.1-10 RedHat driver: radeon Currently, my XFree86.log tells me that AGP and Direct Rendering are disabled. However, I don't know if I really need them. What I want to achieve (in order of importance) is: 1. Good fonts with X11. With the current settings (1400x1050), I see a colour shift in text with most applications (KMail and FireFox, for example). Some characters have a yellow hue, and some a blue hue. (I have managed to set Emacs to a larger font such this does not happen). The ATI driver did not have problems with this. 2. Smooth scrolling and window dragging. Currently these seem OK. The ATI driver was also fine. 3. I want to do image scanning and editing, with GIMP. Simple editing in GIMP seems fine. The ATI driver was also fine. 4. I want to model, render and view MPEG animations. Currently the modelling is jerky. When moving or resizing an object, the view can lag half a second or more behind the mouse. The ATI driver was better, but was not perfect. Viewing the resulting mpeg video is fine with either driver. 5. I want to do video editing from mini-DV. I haven't tested this yet 6. I would like to be able to play some simple games, such as TuxRacer, and possibly some other DOS-based ones like GP2 and Neverhood. Currently, TuxRacer is so slow as to be unplayable. With the ATI driver, it ran fine. With the radeon driver, glxgears says I am getting ~280fps. One D600 HOWTO I have read indicates he gets ~800fps with the radeon driver and 4x AGP enabled. However, I don't know if glxgears performance is significant for what I want. I have tried to make AGP/GART operational, and to operate at 4x, however my XFree log indicates I haven't succeeded (attached at the end of this email). I have also read everything I can on the sourceforge DRI site, and am considering installing their radeon (r200) driver. However, while the mini HOWTO I found indicated that the DRI driver would work with my XFree86 distribution, the DRI site indicates that I need to install the X.org X server. Could someone please point me to some information that explains all this, or alternatively a working XFConfig file for this card and driver? All comments/advice gratefully accepted. Cheers!
