[XFree86] ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 (notebook) not recognized - not supported??

2004-11-17 Thread Cornelis Bockemuehl
Hello,

Could it be that XFree86 doesn't (yet?) support the ATI Mobility Radeon
7000 graphic adapter (notebook)?

Background: Trying to install XFree86/2 (for OS/2) version 4.4 on my notebook,
I do a xfree86 -configure in order to get the hardware checked automatically.
What happens is just nothing, i.e.: the program neither crashes nor stops
and I have to terminate it the hard way. The log file it should generate
is there, but empty.

My hardware is an IBM Thinkpad R32, and IBM specifies the graphic adapter
as follows:

ATI Mobility Radeon 7000, AGB 4x, 16MB DDR-SDRAM, 66 MHz bus

On the ATI webpage I find the following graphic chip, which might (or might
not??) be the same:

ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP

(note the IGP suffix)

A PCI bus scan of my system delivers the following complete output:

http://www.os2warp.be/notebook2/ibm/r32pci.txt

the essence being: Radeon Mobility M6 LY

(i.e.: still another set of suffixes)

Finally the radeon driver docs for XFree86 reports as supported:

Radeon Mobility 7000 IGP

So what I see is:

- there are similar, but still different designations around

- it doesn't seem to work on my system currently

The other (and always quite probable!) thing could be user error - but
which?

Greetings and thanks for any help! (Maybe there's a R32 user around with
an XFree86 server of any kind running??)

[XFree86] GeForce 5900 ultra

2004-11-17 Thread Bassam

Greetings sirs

 I have installed version 7.2
of Linux RedHat as a workstation on a PC. I tried to run
Xconfigurator to configure my Graphics Card (GeForce 5900
Ultra) which is not listed as a supported card, but I could not work
out my problem. I couldn't configure the right settings of the card. I have sent
the following logs in case they are helpful.

XF86Config-4
XFree86.0.log
XFree86Version.txt (this is the output of XFree86
-version)

I also tried to modify XF86Config file but it
didn't work.

Can you tell me the right settings for this
device?

Thank you!

Yours Sincerely

Here's the scoop. Any ATI chipset that is an IGP, and there are
several, is a chipset where the graphics chips is integrated into the
motherboard's memory controler. IGP is an acronym for Integrated
Graphics some word that starts with P. The regular mobility chips are
stand-alone graphics chips that usually have memory either itegrated on
the chip or stacked on the chip's case. Look at the picture of the
Radeon Mobility M9 here:

http://www.idhw.com/textual/chip/ati/chippicture.html
The chip in your laptop is the stand-alone Radeon Mobility M6. The LY
part is just the ASCII translation of the hex digits 0x4c 0x59. This is
done because ATI likes to make lots of chips in the same model with
different PCI IDs. For the M6, there are two PCI IDs around: 4c59 and
4c5a. The former is called LY and the later is called LZ. There
are 16 different versions of the chip used in the Radeon 8500 cards!
Usually the different PCI ID doesn't mean anything, so I wouldn't worry
about that.

Re: [XFree86] GeForce 5900 ultra

2004-11-17 Thread Mark Vojkovich
Your XFree86 version is about 3.5 years old. The nv driver that
ships with it doesn't support that card because it hadn't come out yet
at that time and wouldn't for a couple years yet. You either need to
upgrade to a newer XFree86 version (at least 4.3.0) or use the Linux
drivers available from NVIDIA's web site, which should work with your
current XFree86 version.

You need to send the /var/log/XFree86.0.log file to the [EMAIL PROTECTED]
list. The explanation for why the server doesn't like your video mode will
be in that file.

Re: [XFree86] ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 (notebook) not recognized - not supported??

2004-11-17 Thread Cornelis Bockemuehl
Hello Ian,

Thanks for your explanation!

So the bottom line for me:

- IGP and M6 is not the same chip

- Since I only find IGP in the radeon driver documentation for
XFree86, while my own system has an M6, which is not mentioned, there
is a good chance that it is indeed not supported, and that the reason
why all XFree86 programs fail might be exactly that :-(

Greetings,
Cornelis

AFAIK, it *should* be supported. At least from the 3D perspective,
which is the only area I really know, the M6 and the desktop Radeon 7000
are identical. Since the 7000 is supported, and has been for a long
time, the M6 should be as well. Afterall, the M6 is more than 2 years old.

[XFree86] Elo Touchscreen

2004-11-17 Thread Petar Nedyalkov
Hello list,

I have some problems with the configuration and installation of an Elo Systems
touchscreen under Fedora Core 2. I'm using: X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0,
Release 6.7.

Following the instructions on Elo's site at
http://www.elotouch.com/Support/linux.asp I added the needed options in the
xorg.conf file:

snip

Section ServerLayout
Identifier Default Layout
Screen 0 Screen0 0 0
InputDevice Mouse0 CorePointer
InputDevice Keyboard0 CoreKeyboard
Inputdevice touchscreen1 SendCoreEvents
EndSection

Option MinX 600
Option MaxX 3600
Option MinY 600
Option MaxY 3600
Option UntouchDelay 3
Option ReportDelay 1
EndSection
/snip

I detect the touchscreen at /det/ttyS0, but in the Xorg.0.log file I get the
following messages and errors:

snip

Since a touch on the screen is detected at the port, and the server starts -
can you tell me where's my mistake?

Has anyone configured an Elo touchscreen under Fedora Core 2? Or at least tell
me how to fix this.

Thanks.
