[XFree86] resolution

2006-01-11 Thread Kövesdi György
Hi!

I have a Clevo M55G notebook with 1400x1050 resolution, and
SuSE 10.0 system. The installer creates a modeline for this
resolution, but the X server silently ignores this, and uses
the next built-in resolution (1280x1024).
If I create a modeline by hand, it is accepted only for some
known resolutions (640x480, 1024x768, etc), but if I only
change the displayed pixels, the modeline is ignored
(without error messages).

How can I create modeline for such a resolution?

The original modeline:
ModeLine "1400x1050" 122.61 1400 1488 1640 1880 1050 1051
1054 1087
This is not accepted. If I change the displayed pixels:
ModeLine "1400x1050" 122.61 1280 1488 1640 1880 1024 1051
1054 1087
This uses the same timings, but 1280x1024 window. It is
accepted, and working properly. Why the previous one is
rejected?

Regards,
Gyorgy Kovesdi
