Re: [XFree86] no screens found !!!

2006-03-20 Thread Mark Vojkovich
The logfile implies that the XF86Config-4 file is configured to
use a framebuffer device (Driver fbdev), however, the kernel
does not support (or no longer supports) a framebuffer device.
You might want to try changing to the i810 driver (Driver i810
in the Section Device in the XF86Config-4 file). The i810
driver that comes with your server version *might* be new enough to
support your graphics card.

It seems that either your kernel supported a framebuffer device
and no longer does after your unclean shutdown, or the XF86Config-4
file got changed to use fbdev since the last time it was working.

Mark.

[XFree86] Are these xterm differences expected?

2006-03-20 Thread Leo Boutette

I have an application
that is remotely launched on several computers using a command of the form

xterm e prog j

On redhat 8 - XFree86
4.2.0(165) this works fine

I
have just installed Suse 9 Enterprise server XFree86
4.3.99.903(184)

And
for the same command the xterm opens I see the
beginning of the command

and
then the xterm closes presumeably
before the command completes.

If
I put the command in single quotes or escape the space ahead of the j
then the command works correctly.

I
need a script that can operate on either OS any idea what is happening? Or Why?

2006-03-20 Thread Tom Williams
David Dawes wrote:
Can you exit the server normally, without this problem?
Yep.
 Does it happen
every time you attempt to switch to another terminal?
I believe so, but it seems to happen when I issue the Ctrl-Alt-F7 key
sequence. Other Ctrl-Alt-Fn keysequences (like Ctrl-Alt-F3) do nothing.
  Can you login
remotely to see if the X server process is still running? If it is,
attaching to it with gdb may provide some clues.

I'll see if I can do this.
These types of problems are often driver bugs.

That's fine. Otherwise, 4.5.99.901 has been running very well on my
