The card is well supported by Linux,
but you should rather targert for latest XFree86 beta
which will become X4.3.0 in some two weeks or so.

Hmm, but with XFree 4.2.x and some later DRI code XVideo worked, with
4.2.99.x it does not...

euro symbol ( defined with EuroSign ) doesn't work anymore in xfree86
4.2.99, I get the old key instead.

Working fine here...

But Xvideo is still not working with my Radeon 8500 (hint hint ;)).

[XFree86] Radeon 8500 and XFree CVS: Xv not working for me (+ other smallthings)

2003-01-25 Thread Christophe Saout
Hi!

I'm using the latest binary snapshot from xfree86.org (4.2.99.4) and
compiled the ATI drivers (/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/) from current
CVS code, but Xvideo still doesn't work. No idea what could be the
problem. Funny, xvidix in mplayer (direct hardware access) doesn't work
either. I'm only seeing the color key (dark blue with Xv, pink with
xvidix).

I'm using linux 2.5.59 as kernel. DRI and accelerated MesaGL are working
fine.

BTW there are some other strange bugs:

I'm using gdm an gnome2.2 (prerelease). On the gdm screen there is some
blank or dpms screensaver or something, when I go away, come back, and
move the mouse, the screen turns on, but it has the wrong video mode
(size doubled in every direction), Ctrl+Alt+-/+ changes video modes, but
still everything is doubled. (only killing helps)

When leaving the session and the X server resets, sometimes X seems to
think that my virtual screen is 2x2 pixels or something. When I move the
mouse, the cursor stays in a 2x2 pixel area on the top left but the
whole screen moves around (repeated on the right, into the offscreen
area onto the bottom). Used -terminate argument to avoid this.

Also there are some strange vertical lines in the new mouse cursor
(someone mentioned this was a scaling bug or something?)

Other question: XFree 4.2 gave me good default video modes with high
refresh rates, with 4.2.99.x I had to give my own modelines to get 100
Hz and higher, the built-in modes only go up to 75 Hz or something.
Hint?

Apart from that it's working fine.
