I can't comment on the Blade 3D, however, I have a GeForce 2 in my
machine, and it works excellently.

Re: [XFree86] mouse pointer

2003-02-05 Thread Mark Rose
The XF86 server is not multi-threaded... so there isn't really a way to
do that. However, you might get better responsiveness if you use a 2.5
kernel or a pre-emptive patched 2.4 kernel.

Vous pouvez employer le driver "siliconmotion" qui est déjà inclus avec
X.

Re: [XFree86] (no subject)

2003-02-15 Thread Mark Rose
Please use a subject next time.

I have a MS wheel mouse. The relevant section of my XF86Config file is:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

Re: [XFree86] How can I get KDE from another PC on my network?

2003-02-17 Thread Mark Rose
I do this kind a thing all the time :)

Using ssh is the way to go. However, there are a couple complication if
you are behind a NAT, but i'll disregard those for now.

As for speed concerns, using 100BaseT networking at home, there is
hardly any lag. I've watched DivX movies over the LAN no problem!

In regards to the speed of the local machine, if you have less than 64
MB of ram, X + KDE/Gnome will crawl horribly, so the speedup is
significant.

I've also exported X applications from home to the lab machines at
university. With 55KB/s upload with my cable modem, things are slow, but
still usable for stuff like text-editing and email. If you are going to
do this over a slow connection, you'll be much better off with using
VNC.

Keep in mind, you can always just run KDE (or some other window manager)
locally, and just ssh in to the faster machine, then export an
application. This would be good for something intermittantly
CPU-intensive, such as the GIMP.

If you are going to have many clients connecting to one machine, you'll
really want to put in as much RAM as you can. I'd suggest 64 MB per
active client, though you'll need less per client the more you add.

Re: [XFree86] Feature Request: Better X11 Compression forclient/server

2003-06-28 Thread Mark Rose
The current implementation was designed with high-bandwidth networks in
mind. I would recommending using at least 100 mbps switching hubs.
Elsewise, try using VNC, especially on modem connections, available at
www.realvnc.com.
