[XFree86] startx problem
Well, I'm getting these errors when I try to send the command 'startx' on my linux box. WW: TSENG, NO MATCHING FOR INSTANCE (BUS ID PCI [numbers here]) DEVICE And says that about 20 times. Then I get this: EE: NO DEVICES DETECTED then, looking through the log it says: WW: OPEN APM FAILED (/dev/apm_bios)(no such device) At the end after trying to run it says: Fatal Error: No screens found XIO: Fatal IO error 104(connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0 after 0 request (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. These are the errors I got. If you wish to see the hole log, please tell me how to copy it onto a floppy, then i'll send it. My video card is: Tseng Labs ET 4000/W32 PCI, 2 meg's memory. I also run Linux 2.4.22 with the Slackware 9.1 distro. The XFree86 version I have is 4.3.0. If you could help that would be great. This is my first time installig linux, but I know my way around through windows and a little bit through linux via SSH on shells. Please help. Also, I think maybe one reason why it doesn't work is that xfree doesn't support the PCI version of my card, just the ET 4000/W32. Best, -Ray G. [XFree86] Fatal Server error: no screens found...
Hey Everybody, So I'm taking a Linux class right now, but unfortunately, it doesn't continue until next week, hence the question I pose to you today. Please keep in mind, this might be a stupid newbie question... I have installed Redhat Linux 8.0 on my Compaq Presario 1200 laptop. I installed everything because we are learning how to use all features of Linux for class. Anyways, during the end of the installation, I don't believe they detected my screen or video card, which I have no clue what it is. After the installation, i type startx in root, and it spits this out... --- (==) Log file: /var/log/XFree86.0.log, Time: Tue Jul 8 11:32:39 2003 (EE) Unable to locate/open config file (EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile() Fatal Server error: no screens found When reporting a problem. XIO: fatal error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0 after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining can someone tell me what to do? I don't even know how to get back to the screen which you can change the monitor settings. please keep in mind I have no Linux related exprience at all, so if you could do me a favor and tell me exactly what to type, i'd really appreciate it. like exactly what to type. Thank you in advance...and if someone has some great sites to check out for newbies, i'd really appreciate it. [XFree86] [Re:] Radeon Mobility U1
I also have a problem with this video card, Here's a link http://www.wsu.edu/~ice124/ that well describes what happens on my PC: Currently, i'm using vesa driver ... and waiting xfree4.3 radeon/ati driver. Hopes being helpfull --- David Jeanneteau Extract from specified link : Configuring XFree86: Getting XFree86 up and running is fairly simple. There are two options for your display driver: use the generic vesa driver (provides basic 2D functions, but is stable) or the radeon driver (supports SVGA out and possibly 3D, but is slow). I have included XF86Config files for both modes below. Just move the files into your /etc/X11/ folder and rename them to XF86Config. Vesa - This mode is the safest and most stable. It's the mode I currently use. XFree86 4.3 should include a faster, more optimized VESA driver. Radeon - This mode is somewhat buggy in XFree86 4.2. SVGA out works, as well as more advanced features (transparency, etc). However, this driver is VERY slow drawing to to the screen. The good news is that the Radeon 7500 (which the Mobility U1 is based on) is slated to be fully supported in XFree86 4.3, which should be released, as they say, very soon. If you're feeling particularly brave, you can try the 4.2.99 CVS from xfree86.org. Good luck, and email me with any news. If you are wondering, here are the settings I used for the display in the file: ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
[Newbie]ATI Radeon 7500 All-in-wonder troubles
Greetings good people. I have the following system: ASUS A7A266 motherboard; AMD XP1700 processor; 256M ram; 60G Maxtor hd; Crystal soundcard; Linksys NIC. I am running RH7.3. When I install the ATI AIW7500 card, X is VERY unstable - lots of hangs, crashes, and all that icky stuff. The same system runs fine when I put my old Voodoo 3 card in. I have read the info on ATI stuff on the gatos project website, but to tell the truth I don't really understand it very well. I'm afraid to try installing the drivers from that site because I'm not sure I understand the sketchy instructions. (Duh:-P) Has anyone got an AIW Radeon 7500 running well on RH7.3 or some other linux distro? Thanks much. - Dave - ___ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
