[XFree86] Xinerama using "nv" driver vs "nvidia"
Hi I just recently acquired a GeForce 4 MX440 card made by Asus. Its a dual head card with 2 DVI ports and a third connector for video capture. I would like to use the nv driver developed by the XFree86 project. The nv driver appears to be more stable than the NVidia driver, and from what I can tell moves faster as well. The problem I'm having is using the nv driver with Xinerama. I had dual heads running ok with my old Radeon VE, and I just used that config file to set up the new cards. I have everything working well with the nvidia driver now, but if I change over to the nv driver X won't start. I can start with a single head if I comment out the line: BusID "PCI:1:0:0" In the second device section, but of course this only loads one head. I can only guess the problem is with the nv driver not correctly seeing the card as a dual head card, but I don't know how to fix it. This is the output in the XFree log: (II) NV: driver for NVIDIA chipsets: RIVA 128, RIVA TNT, RIVA TNT2 [snip] GeForce4 MX 440, GeForce4 MX 420, [snip] (II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0 (--) Chipset GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X found (--) Chipset GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X found (II) resource ranges after xf86ClaimFixedResources() call: [0] -1 0 0xffe0 - 0x (0x20) MX[B](B) [1] -1 0 0x0010 - 0x3fff (0x3ff0) MX[B]E(B) [snip] Fatal server error: Requested Entity already in use! [XFree86] Dual head radeon - terrible performance
Hello all, I have a box running RH 8.0 with whatever the default builds of Xfree are for that version. The machine has a dual head radeon VE (32MB DDR) card in it, and two monitors attached. I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is a function of desktop size, or is common or what, but my display updates and moves REALLY slow. Resizing or moving a window tends to spike the cpu activity and disrupts any other runing programs. Also, all of the windows when moved or whatever refresh slowly. I thought maybe this was just in my head, but I played some with my single monitor machine at work and everything is considerably faster. The dual head box is a P4 2.4ghz, and the single head box is a Pentium II 300mhz. With a single head the P2 is considerably faster than the P4. Is this a problem with my configuration, or am I seeing something that is an effect of the increased screen size? -- -Maxwell Bottiger This thing is like a wolf This thing is a wolf Thus, it is a thing to be bansished ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
