Re: [XFree86] help me
Your XFree86 version (4.2.0) predates your video card and is too old to support it. You have two options: update to XFree86 4.4.0 or newer which comes with an XFree86-supported driver that works with that card, or use NVIDIA's binary Linux driver from NVIDIA's web site. The later is supported by NVIDIA directly and should work with your current X-server. MArk. On Sun, 19 Jun 2005, daniele wrote: I can't start the graphical server with Red Hat Linux 8.0. I attach the err.log file. I think I see the problem in the following lines from your log file: (--) PCI:*(1:0:0) ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 75 00] rev 0, Mem @ 0xe000/27, 0xc010/16, I/O @ 0x3000/8 (II) I810: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810, i810-dc100, i810e, i815, i830M, 845G, 852GM/855GM, 865G (II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0 (EE) No devices detected. I think what is happening is you configured XFree86 to use an Intel driver when you needed to configure it to use the radeon driver. If you edit the Driver line under the Device section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config and make it look something like: Section Device ...[Other stuff here]... Driver radeon ...[Other stuff here]... EndSection you may have more luck. Another option is to run '/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 -configure' as root and follow the prompts. This will attempt to automatically create a working configuration for you. Good luck! -- -Andy ___ XFree86 mailing list XFree86@XFree86.Org http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

[XFree86] help me please!
Hi, I really need help. I'm so lost with getting my ATI card to work I dont even know what to do anymore! Please can you give me a simple guide on how-tow download the latest snapshots or patches and apply them i.e what commands to run etc... Everytime I try give Linux a go, I fail because of my IGP 340M Radeon Mobility! I recently downloaded Fedora Core 1 and I like it because the rest of my hardware works great including acpi, i'm using an HP compaq nx9000 (dg211a). I'm so sick of reinstalling Windows! If you could explain to me how to apply a patch or something to get the best performance and DRI etc... to work I'd really be much appreciated. I really beg you! My video card is ATI U1/A3 Accelerated Graphics , display is Mobility U1 and my Sound card is SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. Which installation parameters do I choose for this configuration. You haven't given us much to go on. Which distro are you installing? If you're new to linux, most people elect to try redhat. Are you using the latest redhat version (I think it's 9.1 or something like that)? Are you using the latest XFree86 (4.3.0)? You need to be more specific about your hardware and ask specific questions (specific as in, solving specific problems, but also XFree86 specific). cheers chris -- - | | | TELESCOPE, n.| | A device having a relation to the eye similar to that of the | | telephone to the ear, enabling distant objects to plague us with a | | multitude of needless details. [XFree86] Help me please!!!!!! ( Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM )
Emilio, I have a Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM 3240 ( TI RAMDAC ) video card and HAVE the same problem. XFree86 2.4.x fails at the RAMDAC probe and exits. I now use ¨vesa¨ in stead of the ¨S3¨ driver. Now I am stuck with 1024x768 / 16bpp in stead of 1152x864 /16bpp ! I could go back to XFree86 3.3.6 that one worked ( with SVGA ) ... no problems at all. I don't want to go back to 3.3.6 ... there must be another solution. I wondered if you ever found a solution ( exept: buy an other card .. ) ? I'm afraid I don't speak Spanish, at least, I think that's Spanish! :0) Anyway... From your logfile, X is complaining you don't have a mouse. Or at least, you don't have a mouse on /dev/psaux. If you actually, physically, don't have a mouse, try using the option allowmouseopenfail in your xf86config-4 file (look at 'man XF86Config') Also noticed that you're missing the SIS kernel module for DRI, I wonder if you haven't got kernel support for a PS2 mouse either?

I noticed that when the system startup, something have wrong. One looks as this: Start Sm-client : can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueuel):Permission denied Program mode requires special privileges,e.g.,root or TrustedUser.[FAILED] I also check the files by myself,I opened /var/gdm (/var/gdm looks like a directory, but I can vi /var/gdm).The content is as below (6 lines): Press ? for keyboard shortcuts Sorted by name (.bak,~,.o,.h,.info,.swp,.obj at end of list) =/var/gdm/ ./ fonts.cache-1 :0.Xservers I think there is a file called :0.Xservers in the directory /var/gdm/ ,and the file maybe as below(1 line): :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 At first I look for answer in internet by google,I have tried changing the attribute of /var/gdm ,but it failed still. later ,I want to use startx to get into GUI ,I see some information about your mail ,so I write to you to beg your help. Please help me ,I also give you some files copy from my computer. Re: [XFree86] Help me!
The people at [EMAIL PROTECTED] need just a _little_ more information about your setup. For instance, what ATI card are you using? If it's a Radeon, which one? 9000? 7500? 8500? VE? Please be sure to give the exact model number. Then, which XFree86 server version are you using? This can be tricky to tell most times, but it's safe to assume that it's one of the 4.X servers. It might be easier to tell us if you're using a particular distribution and version of that distribution. For instance, you might say that you are having trouble getting your ATI Radeon 9000 to work on Redhat 8.0 (I pulled this straight out of the air.) From that, they would know what card you are using, and they could even make a good guess as to what server you're using. Even then, they might need to know exactly what problems you're having (problems related to 2-D? 3-D?), but you would have given them more to work with so that they could possibly tell you right away something like Oh, yeah, we're still working on that. It doesn't work at all right now. Anyway, here's hoping for better bug reports in the future! http://www.xfree86.org/cgi-bin/bugform.cgi -Andy ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

Use the subject line as your search term, enclose it in quotes. you can also search on AGPGART and Intel 810 to find discussions about your memory allocation issues. Finally, you're using an old (and thus unsupported) version of xfree. it may be time to consider upgrading. :) Good luck, cyn ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

Title: RE: [XFree86] help me thats a problem with the XFree86 module loader in combination with a more recent gnuc compiler. you might want to use newer sources or add to your host.def the additional compiler switch of --no-merge-constants in order to disable the introduction of those dangling symbols. -Alex. -Original Message- From: Taiyoo Kim [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2003 11:45 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [XFree86] help me Hi, I have a some problem Error massage below ...(II) LoadModule: bitmap (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 Not loading .rodata.cst8 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 Not loading .rodata.cst8 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 Not loading .rodata.str1.32 Not loading .rodata.str1.1 (II) Symbol from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a is unresolved! I don't know attach a file but I want send log file that /var/log/XFree86.0.log I Installed in /usr/ports/x11/XFree86-4 I trying that reinstall XFree86-4-Server. Looks like you've compiled a rather old version of XFree86 with a rather new version of gcc. My guess is you've compiled XFree86 4.1.0 with gcc 3.0 or newer. New versions of gcc, in particular gcc 2.96rh, and gcc 3.0 and higher contain an optimization called merge-constants, which is enabled by default. The X server ELF module loader does not like the new ELF sections that this optimization puts in the modules, and causes it to explode with the errors you see above. To work around this issue, the X modules must be compiled with -fno-merge-constants. Doing this in XFree86 4.1.0 is a bit of an ugly hack, so I wouldn't recommend it. XFree86 4.2.0 and later will autodetect the version of gcc during build time and will make sure the modules are built correctly without extra effort. Hope this helps. -- Mike A.
