[XFree86] How to get "snow-free" 2048x1536x24 display?

Hi,
  I am the fortunate owner of a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070sb monitor.
Unfortunately, when I ask xfree86 run the monitor at resolutions
above 1600x1200x24 I get digital "snow" all over the screen during
graphic updates.

What do I have to do to get rid of the snow?

ATI Radeon 7500 64Mb, Xfree86 4.2.99.5
