When I run startx, I get following errors: VGA(0) : Virtual Length (0) is too small fo rhardware (min 1) Screen(s) found, but none have usable config Has anyone come across this error? If you know how to get rid of this error, pls let me know. Maybe I missied something while configuring X server. Attached is the log file. Any help will be greatly appreciated!! This can be found in the log file /var/log/XFree86.0.log. Well, when this error occurs, these are usually the only lines present in XFree86.0.log. When the X server crashes once before it installed his signal handlers, it leaves the /tmp/.X0-lock and the /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 socket around, and all subsequent tries give the above error. So, buddy, you need to remove /tmp/.X0-lock and /tmp/.X11-unix/* and try again. Then send the contents of /var/log/XFree86.0.log that contains the real information about the crashing server. Hi Hendrik, You need to first look at your log file (probably /var/log/XFree86.0.log) and see what errors (EE) and warnings (WW) are present. If you can't figure out what they mean with the aid of man XFree86 and http://www.google.com _then_ post the error-log, the /etc/X11/XF86Config here and ask for help. Don't forget to specify what your video-card hardware is (lspci -vv can reveal information about the exact chipset). Red Hat 8.0 also has excellent manuals available which take you through how to configure XFree86 using their redhat-configure-xfree86.
