The log-file shows that you are missing 2 important drivers. Check for
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/i810_drv.o and
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/exrensions/libxie.a
The pex5 can be safely left as is, or removed from FontPath in the
XFConfig-4 file.

It appears that X was not installed correctly on your machine. Several
modules needed by your system are not found (see logfile). I suggest
reinstalling the X RPMs on your system.

It looks like you are missing alot of modules. eg:

 /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/i810_drv.a
 /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/mouse_drv.a
 /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libexmod.a
 etc...

Perhaps you have an incomplete XFree86 installation?

[XFree86] Problem Killing X Server

2004-01-11 Thread Chetan Acharya
Sir,
I 've recently installed linux kernel 2.6.0 and all things X related seem to be
functioning fine, except for switching terminals and shutting down...when i try to
kill x, or switch a terminal(ctrl-alt-F1-6) or restarting, all i get is a blank
screen. i know my keyboard is working cause ctrl-alt F7 switched back to the active X
terminal. i had no problems with kernel 2.4.22
anyway here are the required log files:

The log file

[XFree86] Problem starting X server with Timesys kernel

2003-07-20 Thread rtolosa
Sorry for the mails before, I missed the subject

I have installed Red Hat 8.0 and Timesys 3.1. I don't have any problem
starting Red Hat' kernel, but I cannot start the X Window System when starting
with Timesys.
When I get to the graphic login I log in with gnome and it crashes saying
this:
There already appears to be an X server running on display :0. Should I try
another display number? If you answer no, I will attemp to start the server
on 0: again. (You can change consoles by pressing Ctrl-Alt plus a function key,
such as Ctrl-Alt-F7 to go to console 7. X servers usually run on consoles 7
or higher).

Then whatever you choose it returns to the graphic login. It seems there
isn't
any other X server running when you switch to the other consoles.
I am using XFree86 version 4.2.0

Thank you in advance.

My log is:

8.0 (or 9 I believe it is already out) or some other newer version of another
 provider. A lot of
the newer cards are only recognised well by X 4.3...

  am attaching
the output log file that it saved in the /var/log/ folder, namely XFree86.0.log.

Please, help me configure the X server, I can't work on linux console alone.
  Thanking you in anticipation,

Re: [XFree86] Problem with X server!

2003-04-05 Thread Mark Vojkovich
That looks like the new Intel integrated graphics? You're
probably going to need to install the newest XFree86 (version 4.3)
to get that to work.

It says you already have a server running. Do you disagree?

[XFree86] problem regarding X server system.

2003-03-05 Thread VIKHYAT SRIVASTAVA
Dear Sir,
I am using a Red Hat 8.0 as server and accessing files from it
using telnet from a remote machine which runs Windows 2000
Professional.
The problem is that when I try starting the X Windows Server
(after I have logged in the server by telnet as a user/root) the X
windows won't start giving the following error:

Fatal Server Error:
PAM authentication failed, cannot start X server.
Perhaps you donot have console ownership?
This was the only error message given.
I would be obliged if you could help me.
Thanking You,
Yours truly,
Vikhyat Srivastava
