[XFree86] Radeon 9800 pro problems

2004-12-28 Thread Christian Wittorf

Hi,

I just got a Radeon 9800 pro on an enterprise linux box.  It
recognizes the card with lspci, but it gives me an error of “no screen
found” .  Has anyone else had this problem?

[XFree86] Radeon 9800 support in CVS

2003-07-09 Thread Wedge .
I've got a Radeon 9800 Pro that I've been wanting to use with the 2.5
kernels, since they work very well for me. However, the only usable
drivers at the moment are the FireGL drivers from schneider.de, which
don't compile against a 2.5 kernel. I noticed in the CVS changelog that
2D support for the 9800 has been added: "267. Add support for new Radeon
chips: R350(9800), RV350(9600,M10), RS250(IGP7000), RS300(IGP9000),
RV280(9200) (Hui [EMAIL PROTECTED]).", but although I've downloaded the latest code
via CVS, the radeon module still won't work, complaining that it can't
find any devices, and the information it writes to the XFree logfile
indicates that it only supports the 9700 and below. This is the tail end
of what it reports:

ATI Radeon 9500 AD (AGP), ATI Radeon 9500 AE (AGP),
ATI Radeon 9500 AF (AGP), ATI FireGL Z1/X1 AG (AGP),
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro ND (AGP), ATI Radeon 9700/9500Pro NE (AGP),
ATI Radeon 9700 NF (AGP), ATI FireGL X1 NG (AGP)
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 03:00:0
(WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:3:0:1)
found
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
The same thing happens with the builtin DRM code in the 2.5 kernels. Am I
doing something wrong, or have I checked out the wrong things from CVS,
and so not got the radeon code with 9800 support? Any help is greatly
appreciated, as I would really like to get this working ASAP.
Andrew

RE: [XFree86] Radeon 9800

2003-06-27 Thread Emilio Fesocchi
Finally solved! Thanks to Hy0 post on this newsgroup I used his patch (found in
previous article on this mailing list) against a 4.3.99.6 snapshot I had already
downloaded (this patch is intended for 4.3.99.5 but worked flawlessly with my
4.3.99.6, don't know whoat about with current 4.3.99.7). Compiled and configured, now
I have my shiny desktop & even some 3D (OpenGL screensavers work). Only problem I
still have (but is not so important) is that this server seems to lack DGA support
(this is what a warning says) and so can't use my TV-tuner card with it.

Thanks to all for help
Emilio

I think those are exactly ones I'm using. But I get that error (fglrx: No matching
Devices. Board is Third Party)

You need the new drivers for fglrx you can find them at :

schneider-digital.de

They have beta drivers for XFree86 4.3.x

I installed them seems to be ok so far.

I feel your pain, ATI stinks. Great board + no drivers = /dev/null

good luck

Subject: [XFree86] Radeon 9800

Hello, I'm writing again cause now I have the board and I'm trying to have
it work (as it should cause it's listed among Redhat 9.0 supported
hardware).
I've installed XFree86_4.3.0, and with the VESA driver I get to start the
server (x pointer on grey background) but after get the following error:

(EE) FAILED TO LOAD MODULE GLX (once-only module)

I'm also trying another way: following a suggestion from this mailing list I
downloaded a glx driver from
http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/download_ati.html that in the docs
lists Radeon 9800 as supported. Unfortunately my board isn't recognized
neither by the configuration utility nor during server start:

(WW) fglrx No matching devices
(EE) Board is Third Party

Actually board is a Hercules one.

'd prefer have the second way but also the first one is better than text
console! ;)

Thanks in advance for your help
Emilio

[XFree86] Radeon 9800 AGP card

2003-06-19 Thread Otto IMGRUND
help me please,

I've a Dell Dimension 8300 with a new ATI Radeon 9800 - 8x AGP card.
In the moment I can't use this PC with Mandrake LINUX 9.1, because of errors on
any driver selection:
Fatal server error:
no screens found
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"

Even a "vesa" server didn't work !

But Knoppix running on a CD worked well with a "vesa" driver. (not super but I can use KDE)

Though I changed the setting in the XF86Config-4 file
Section "Device"
   Identifier "device1"
   #BoardName "ATI Radeon"
   #Driver "radeon"
   #Option "DPMS"
   BoardName "All"
   VendorName "All"
   Driver "vesa"
   BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
and added this section:

Section "DRI"
   Mode 0666
EndSection
Now also Mandrake works under "vesa".
Please can you help me to find a better solution than "vesa". 3-D is not required.
thank you very much

[XFree86] Radeon 9800 AGP driver

2003-06-12 Thread Alex Deucher
The xfree86 4.3.0 and xfree86 cvs support 2D on the 9800. open source
3D support hasn't been written yet. However, ati provides binary
drivers for xfree86 that support 2D and 3D.

Hi community,

I've a Dell Dimension 8300 with a new ATI Radeon 9800 - 8x AGP card.
In the moment I can't use this PC with LINUX because of a missing
driver
for this card.
Is there a plan when a driver would be available ?

I hope I haven't to work too long time with windows in the meanwhile
=;-)

[XFree86] Radeon 9800

2003-06-10 Thread Emilio Fesocchi
Hi everybody. I'm a Linux user but also a videogames addicted so now I'd like to
replace my old Geforce4 Ti4600 with the new ATI monster to improve my fragging
experience ;).
I would like to know to what extent this card works (or not works) under linux.
I don't care much about 3D under linux but I'd like good 2D image & some windows
acceleration.
ATI official site doesn't have specific drivers and XFree 4.3 stable release I
understood works good up to the 9700. I downloaded latest development release and
CHANGELOG speaks of support for ATI 9x00 cards. Is x = 8 valid? ;)
