Comment it out. FWIW, you have a 3D Rage, which is a Mach64 variant, not a Rage 128, as you apparent told the configuration tool. [XFree86] [XFree86]Problems with PS/2-port
Hi All, i have following problem with my embedded linux-system. At first some specs: kernel 2.4.18 xfree 4.1.0 touchscreen connected to ttyS0 mouse and keyboard connected to PS/2 As the system has a touchscreen, normally it would be driven only by this device. But for service or maintenance sometimes it is better to connect a keyboard and/or a mouse to it. So i have now following behaviour from the X11-system: If all three devices are connected, the system runs properly. If only the touch is connected, the system runs properly. But if only touch and keyboard are connected, the keyboard will be ignored by the X-system. The reason seems to be that if X doesnt found the mouse at /dev/psaux, this device will completely ignored and so the keyboard is not responding (even the NumLock-LED could not be set). This comes only in X, at the console the keyboard is functioning very well (not in xterm). The Touchscreen should be the corepointer, but X tells me, that it has no CorePointer-abilities. If i assign the options "AlwaysCore" and/or "SendCoreEvents" to the mouse, and the mouse is connected then the system works. If no mouse is connected, the keyboard is also not working. If i comment out these options, the keyboard is working. But if a mouse is plugged in, it will be ignored. There is no way to use another device for the mouse, because there is no USB and the serial ports are all used for other things. The system has no abilities to autosense whether a mouse is connected. How can i get X to use the PS/2-port for the keyboard, even if the mouse isn't plugged in? [XFree86] Xfree86 problems
I try to start up Red Hat linux 9 and the screen flashes twice and then tells me theres a problem with X server. I am using a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra. Is there a way to choose which video thingy is loaded up to a different driver instead of VESA compatible which i dont think this one is because VESA hasn't been around forever. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hello. First of all I must say I am using Linux since a month (only in console mode... still trying to start X). What I mean is that I am able to use commands but I still don't really know how configuration files work (still reading on that). So, I am sending you the full message I reveive when I type "startx" (it's joined to the E-Mail). May be the "Fatal error: No screens detected" will seem strange to you (it is!) but I have to say my screen work (well... in console mode...). Here is some information about my system, if it can help you. I am using a pentium 133 mhz with a Ati 128 as video card. The linux distribution I am using is Linux Mandrake 7.0. It would be great if you could help me with this problem (I am stuck). Tell me if you need any more information. Note: This system was given to me by someone (he hadn't any information about it). I am sure the video card is using a chipset Ati Rage 128 but I don't know if it's a fury or magnum or pro or whatever(it's not written on it). It's the same thing for my monitor (it's written "Magnavox on the front and "Phillips" at the back >< and I don't know anything about the "VertRefresh" or the "HorizSync". That's why I put "Ati Rage 128 (generic)" as video card and the lowest numbers possible as "VertRefresh", etc. Note: Sorry for my poor english, I am french. Re: [XFree86] Xfree86 Problems
I keep getting about 50 to 60 e-mails a day from people who have problems with setting up XFree on their machines. I presume you joined the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list? I signed up for your newsletter, some how these e-mails are being directed to me. It's a mailing list. Whenever anybody sends a message to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", the mailing list address, then everybody on the list gets it. It's an internet discussion and communication tool, an excellent one - but it can lead to quite a bit of email! I use automatic filters to sort messages from the (many) mailing lists I'm on into specific mailboxes, so I never even see them in my inbox. I can then go over each list at my leasure. Most mail clients can do this, or if you're using an IMAP server (like me) you can have the server do it before you even download your mail. I'm not aware of any XFree86 newsletter, and there doesn't seem to be an announce list (usually the closest thing to a newsletter that most open source projects have) for xfree86. What is the best way to stay up to date with developments in XFree86 w/o reading the lists? Anybody? It strikes me that a note on the the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list page saying that traffic is moderate for a mailing list - you can expect up to 50 messages a day - might be an idea. If this continues I will have to block your site on my e-mail. There's no need for that. If you want to unsubscribe, simply read the instructions on http://www.xfree86.org/lists.html . Andrew, I think everyone gets a copy of these Emails. I just signed up too. I think it shotguns the emails to everyone signed up as sort of a network effect to see if anyone has figured out the problems. I guess this way members help each other. It sounds really cool, and should make for fantastic progress in all directions. However, it is a whole hell of a lot of emails.

[XFree86] XFree86 problems
Dear XFree86 advisor, I came an error using x-windows and wanted to get your advice. I have installed RedHat Linux 7.2 on a M925 motherboard with the S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR chipset. The x-configuration when installing Redhat didn't show the ProSavage DDR so I choose the Savage Pro+, but this doesn't work. Can not seem to get the Xwindows system to run on it. Any information you could give me to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Dwayne McLean

That's a good idea. If that doesn't work, re-run the server with -logverbose 4 and send me the (large) log. Just curious: which SVGA driver does 3.3.6 pick? Thanks. [XFree86] XFree86 problems with Sony Vaio pcg-fxa59 (fx705)
Hello, I have a problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. I've been using XFree86 3.3.6 on my Sony Vaio PCG-FXA59 (FX705 in europe) for about 5 months now and after a harddrive crash am back restoring the whole machine. This laptop has what purports to be a ATI 3D Rage Mobility-M1 graphics chip in it. It's supposed to be able to do 1400x1050. I was able to do this resolution at 16bpp with 3.3.6 but it was slow as mud when moving windows, etc. I just installed FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE today and along with that came XFree86 4.2.1. Dmesg from the OS is here: http://dub.net/vaio/dmesg Running "XFree86 -configure" renders this file: http://dub.net/vaio/XF86Config-4.2.1 Running "XFree86 -xf86config path/to/XF86Config-4.2.1" creates this madness on the screen: http://dub.net/vaio/screen.jpg Here's the 3.3.6 config that actually sorta worked: http://dub.net/vaio/XF86Config-3.3.6 As a side note before composing this email I checked out xf-4_2_99_3 and tried to build it but the build died all three times I tried. The world.log has crazy binary output at the bottom of it. Anyone that wants to look at that can find it here: http://dub.net/vaio/world.log.gz I'm going to attempt to build the newly tagged 4.2.99.4 and I'll repost if I have any luck with that. If anyone can help me resolve this problem I'll gladly send you a bottle of your favorite poison or a reborn DEC Alpha Multia. :) -Bill -- -=| Bill Swingle - -=| Every message PGP signed -=| Fingerprint: C1E3 49D1 EFC9 3EE0 EA6E 6414 5200 1C95 8E09 0223 -=| "Computers are useless.
