[XFree86] problem with modelines

2004-02-11 Thread Andreas van Leeuwen Flamino
Hello,

After configuring my XFree86 4.1.0.1, i keep on getting a 1920 by 1440 screen.
I have tried to correct this by entering the modes lines to my XF86Config.
However, i still get 1920x1440.

"
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
"

Can anyone tell me what i have missed or give me a pointer to the documentation
covering a solution for my problem?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Andrejas.

Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, not /etc/X11/XF86Config.

Sorry, that was an error, i did edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.
What occured to me though, was that xf86cfg wants to write the file to
/usr/X11R6/lib/XF86Config. It fails to write to locations in other directories
if i supply another one. So, i used xf86cfg to get create the
/usr/X11R6/lib/XF86Config. When i restarted X, it seemed like the changes were
not having any effect. So, i copied /usr/X11R6/lib/XF86Config to
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4, which atleast gave me a working X.
The only problem now is that i can only get a 1920x1440 mode, which is too high.

Andrejas.

I have attached it to this message.
You are using depth 8 for which there is no Display SubSection in the
config file you sent previously.

(==) R128(0): Depth 8, (==) framebuffer bpp 8
(II) R128(0): Pixel depth = 8 bits stored in 1 byte (8 bpp pixmaps)
Insert for example

	DefaultDepth 16

before the first Display subsection.
