Radeon DRIVERS are available from yesterday
at ATI web site:

I hope that they can works better than
the one that XFree 4.3 already provide
(in my Asus L5C they don't work,

-->Hi All who reside here,

I have just purchased a Radeon 9200 grahpics card and find that the
XFree86 4.3 I have installed does not in fact have that card listed in
the card database. I understand from some research I have done on the
XFree web si
-->es though that it is in fact supported now! Yippee!

It is the RV280 engine, but will not configure via sax2 in my SuSE 8.2
setup. Just kicks out when it can't find the card. I haven't seen any
updates recently for SuSE binaries and could probab
-->y update things from
XFree86 latest stable release, if I knew how! :o)

In looking over all that, it didn't quite make sense to me in the way I
am familar with installing, building source files. So here come the
questions.

Anyone running this
-->card in SuSE or others with 4.3 presently? Is 3D
supported from XFree or do you need to use the ATI drivers for that?

Are there new binaries for SuSE somewhere? If not, how do you compile
and install the newer stuff to use that card?

Thanks f
-->r your help

Thanks Alberto,
I did download the driver, but I think these are for 3D capabilities,
aren't they? I first have to get my card recognized and setup for the
machine to run on, then I can install the drivers for 3D. Or am I
mistaking the whole reason for these drivers from ATI?

Alberto,

Downloaded the ATI binary file 3.4.5 version and it works pretty well.
Haven't gotten the 3D working yet, but working on that presently.
Should have all running shortly I am hoping and everything happy with
the new 9200 card. Can't comment on the older drivers as i did not use
those prior to this.

Am looking forward to having XFree86 running with it too, which I am
hoping to see either by me building it or in the next version of SuSE.

Hi Patrick,
Unfortunately, Radeon 9200 support is not included in the base XFree86 4.3.0
distribution. Adding it on is a job for various distributors - Debian and Red
Hat add it on, but apparently SuSE haven't.

I think your best bet would be to contact your distributor directly and ask them
to include Hui Yu's Radeon patchset; if they don't know where to get it, point
them at me.

Cheers!
:) d

'Radeon 9200 2D/3D support has been added to developmental CVS, as
has Radeon 9600/9800 2D support.'

RE: [XFree86] Radeon 9200 SE support?

2003-09-13 Thread Hans Eriksson
Thank you for your reply,

I've unsuccessfully tried the binary RPMs for RedHat (I use RedHat 9.0) that
are available from the ATI website and according to ATI; they support the
Radeon 9200 (although there is nothing on the site that mentions the SE
edition).

As far as I've heard, the SE edition is supposed to be compatible w/ the
standard 9200 (maybe it's just an identification problem?). Does anyone have
more information on this?

Re: [XFree86] Radeon 9200 SE support?

2003-09-13 Thread Olav Reinert
I also just bought such a video card, and I ran into the same problems
as you have.

The latest release version of XFree86 (v4.3.0) doesn't support this
card, but as of development snapshot 4.3.99.8 (i.e., also in the latest
CVS sources) there is support for it. I managed to download and build
the mentioned snapshot and to install it on top of the XFree86
installation provided by my SuSE 8.2 system.

So now I have the XFree86 ati radeon driver installed and working, but
there's still a problem with the DVI output of my card, which is what
I'm interested in. The problem is currently being worked on
(http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=673). If you're happy with the
analog RGB output the solution I've mentioned works just fine. If you
want DVI output from your card, it would be interesting to know if
XFree86 v4.3.99.x works for you, or if you get the same problem as me.

Olav Reinert

This is something new. It's supposed to work the same as 9000 cards, but
apparently it isn't.
I haven't seen a 9200 with a DVI port so far. What's the brand name of your
card? I'll try to get one for the test.

For now you can try to comment off following two lines in
RADEONRestoreFPRegisters (radeon_driver.c), see if this makes any
difference.
-OUTREG(RADEON_TMDS_PLL_CNTL,restore->tmds_pll_cntl);
-OUTREG(RADEON_TMDS_TRANSMITTER_CNTL,restore->tmds_transmitter_cntl);

Re: [XFree86] Radeon 9200: can't get DVI working

2003-08-03 Thread rda
I am having exactly this problem with a Radeon 7500 card (OEM =
PowerColor) -- as an added complication it appears to be vary with the
digital monitor attached.

I can get output from XFree to the DVI port when a (borrowed) Sony XDM-72
monitor is attached, but not when my Apple Studio Display 17" LCD is
attached.

The Apple monitor works with the same hardware in Windows and with RH9 in
text mode.

I am also using the CVS ati and radeon drivers downloaded today. I have
spent much time trying various config files without success.

Unfortunately, I am too much a newbie to find the radeon_driver.c file to
make the suggested edit.

Where is it?

Any other suggestions?

Could the "MonitorLayout" option be relevant here if there is only a single
monitor attached and it is detected by DDC?

TIA

Hey, I am new here and I don't know where to put this question. I have an older computer with an ATI Mach(264vt2) graphics card, and the system is running Windows 95. Will these drivers work with this card and operating system? Or are these drivers only for Linux systems? Thank you for any help you can give.

The card is from club-3d (www.club-3d.com).

It makes a big difference - it seems to work now.

A quick test shows only a minor (possibly acceleration related) problem:
the picture is flickering if a window (menu) is opened at a screen
border. I had the same effect with the windows driver, disabling cursor
and bitmap optimization (the highest of 5 levels) cured it there.

Thank you very much for your help. Of course I'm willing to do other
tests with the card if it would be useful for driver development.

This looks like a TMDS transmitter's problem rather than CRTC timing or
monitor detection problem. Posting your log file will help to identify the
problem.

Make sure XFree is not accidentally choosing a mode that would be fine
for the analog side, but is overdriving the DVI port. I've had this
problem in the past; the digital transmitter is very seldom capable of
keeping up with the analog side (and very few will do > 1280x1024, and
many can't even do that at > 60Hz, even when the analog output is
capable of 4x as much).

Hmm, is the dri module being loaded? I know FC1 doesn't turn on 3d
acceleration by default and you have to edit your XF86Config file and add
the dri modules.

Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "dri" #<<< Add this line
EndSection

You can also install the ATI drivers as well. They provide 3D support as
well.

It appears you use an unknown ATI chipset. For some reason or another X loads
both the radeon and the ati driver, and how it managed to figure that out is
beyond me, because I don't see a screen section in your config file, and your
device section looks like this:

2004-05-21 Thread Cynthia Grossen
o If the binary distribution reported by the Xinstall.sh script is
not
present on the XFree86 site, then there are two possibilities:
first is
that it has not uploaded yet. This is likeliest possibility if you
are
looking shortly after the release date. The second possibility is
that
your target will not be be available at for this release. This is
like-
liest possibility if you are looking about two weeks after the
release
 date. Check here http://www.xfree86.org/4.4.0/UPDATES.html>
for
information about updates to our binary distributions, and here
 http://www.xfree86.org/4.4.0/ERRATA.html> for errata related
to
 this release.

Looks like possibility number 2 to me. YDL is not exactly a major player
in the Linux world. Maybe they have made packages themselves. Otherwise
you can use the source and roll your own.

Good word.

Stop right there.

When you install XFree86 on top of anything, it gratuitously overwrites
a few files. One of such files is /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc which is the
system-wide, default script used to start up your X environment (window
manager, etc). The xinitrc is run by 'xinit' (see the man page) which
in turn is generally started by 'startx' from a console. However the
xinitrc could also be run if you log in through a graphical display
manager like xdm. I don't know the specifics of your setup.

In short, RH's version of xinitrc is in the RPM package 'xinitrc'; in
RH9 I believe it is xinitrc-3.32-1.noarch.rpm. If you reinstall this
RPM chances are you will get your old behavior back (but with the new
X binaries that you installed).

You're probably actually running Twm without realizing it. Twm is small
(but functional) window manager that is distributed with XFree86, and it
is the window manager that is started by the xinitrc that XFree86
installs.

You will get the error messages about inet6 if your kernel has no
support for IPv6. These are harmless.

> (WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found.

I didn't look at your config only because this is a warning message, not
an error. An error would be prefixed with "(EE)" and the X server would
abort.

If you only have one video card I think you can get away without
specifying a BusID, but I may be wrong. :)

Raghu,
I have only seen a bit of these artifacts during a windowed 3D game with
my 9200. Not on everything though. I am using the ATI drivers 3.2.5
with compiled 3D kernel modules from that driver. I was going to
compile the XFree86 drivers, but I know SuSE does some different things
at times, so decided to try this one first and it seems to work nicely
so far.

Looks like it. Is it provided with XFree 4.3.0 or 4.4.0 ?

Neither; it hasn't been merged into the Xfree86 tree yet. It's in DRI
cvs. you can either use the binary snapshots or build from source:
