[xmail] configure on linux

2002-07-24 Thread li__rui

hi,Davide,
I still have a question about how to configure xmail on Linux. I am using Redhat 7.1.
In your readme Part 7, the 7th step is :

If you've inetd installed you must comment out the lines of /etc/inetd.conf that
involves SMTP POP3 Finger and restart inetd.
I can't not find a file named inetd.conf in /etc. Does that mean I have not inetd
installed Redhat and can simply ignore this step, or inetd.conf is a hiden file?

Sorry for these silly questions. I'm new to Linux.

Thank you very much!

Rui

do: rpm -qa | grep xinetd

if thereis an entry, do: rpm -e xinetd (that will deinstall this sucky
software ;-))

now you can proceed installing xmail.

You need to look into a directory /etc/xinetd.d. Here you can find files
for pop3,imap and so. For any service you need to disbale change the
line "disable = no" with "disable = yes", then restart xinetd.

[xmail] is it possible...

2002-07-24 Thread Darren Stock

Hi all, does anyone know if its possible to a signature or disclaimer to the
bottom of all outgoing mail?
I would have thought it would be possible by a filter, but my knowledge of
filters and writing scripts isn't too hot.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

2002-07-24 Thread Pablo A. Salgado

Hi Rui,

Log in as root and execute ntsysv you will be able to select which
services you don't need like sendmail, ipop, etc.

Some services like ipop2, ipop3,... need restarting xinetd so you
probably need to execute:

service xinetd restart

And some services like sendmail need to be stopped manually so you can
type

service sendmail stop

Hope this helps

[xmail] base64 filter anyone?

2002-07-24 Thread Gerrit P. Haase

Hallo,

I'm looking for a base64/qp converter. It should convert all incoming
mail to plain 8bit text if it is base64/quoted-printable. Well, I need
it just for the mails which are passed to Ecartis and since there are a
lot of mails it should be really fast, so I would prefer s.th. written
in C. Probably there is also already a filter available somewhere?

TIA,

GErrit

[xmail] still has problem in running xmail on Redhat 7.1

2002-07-24 Thread Rui Li

Thanks for the warmhearted guys to give me suggestions about how to configure xmail on
Redhat 7.1 . In my /etc/xinet.d directory, there is only a file named finger which is
relavant to email service. No pop, smtp or imap. And finger is already disabled. So I
configured xmail following the directions on readme.txt.
Now xmail runs, but I can not access it from windows in another PC with SMTP or POP3.
Here is the symptom:

I have two PCs. A is running Redhat 7.1. B is running Windows2k. Both have an Xmail
running. Xmail in A has a domain called "proxyserver". Xmail in B has a domain called
"proxyclient".

1. XMail runs on A normally. I can see it with pstree and netstat --tcp -n -a -p:

[root@localhost /root]# netstat -tcp -n-a -p
Active Internet Connections (servers and established)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address
StatePID/Program name
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:32768 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 608/rpc.statd
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:6017 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 924/XMail
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:110 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 924/XMail
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:790.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 924/XMail
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:111 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 593/portmap
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:6000 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 963/X
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:220.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 796/sshd
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:250.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 924/XMail

2. I can ping A from B. And I can use CtrlClnt to configure xmail on A both from A
itself and B.
3. I can use Pine to send email from rui@proxyserver through xmail running on A(I set
the default smtp gateway to the IP of B) to rui@proxyclient, but I can not send email
in the reversed direction, say, from rui@proxyclient to rui@proxyserver.
4. I also can not use outlook on B to access the account rui@proxyserver , outlook
shows the server can not be connected.

Anybody has opinion on it? Is there a possibility that my network configuration is not
propert?

Great thanks !

Rui

Just out of curiosity how did you issue the userlist command? At a
command prompt or via ASP or other?

[xmail] Re: Flushing Send Queue By Sender

2002-07-24 Thread HMajidy

Do you mean to say the "frozdel" command of the CtrlClnt shoud not be used?
Or does it take care of the slog files as well?

Thanks,
Hamid.

time ago i made a shell script ( unix ) to purge the frozen messages but
obviously i lost it :-) ( i'll try to find it ... )
you cannot only remove frozen messages because you will leave slog files
around and you cannot remove all slog files because some of them might be
owned by valid messages still pending.
