Try /etc/log.d/logwatch.conf

And/or man logwatch to see where the config file is.

Hi all.

I've had something similar on the server here. However I was getting 2
such messages per day. I've changed the crontab entry one has
disappeared. The other is coming from logwatch. I've taken a look but
haven't yet found where to fix this one.

Anyone know what file to edit?

Thanks.

[xmail] Question

2002-10-29 Thread Carlos

Hello all.

Due to my bad English I have some problems to configure Xmail.
Some time ago in www.ordb.org, my server was clasificated as an open relay.

I changed in the server.tab to put:

AllowSmtpVRFY 1

and with this change ordb said it´s OK.

But yesterday someone used my server to send mail without permission (I
think so). Here are what the server sent to me:

--

[00] XMail bounce: Rcpt=[[EMAIL PROTECTED]];Error=[500 error]

[01] Error sending message [1035840086237.3160.moebius] from
[carlinux.dyndns.org].

ID:S218
Mail From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Rcpt To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[02] The reason of the delivery failure was:

500 error

[04] Here is listed the message log file:

[PeekTime] 1035840086 : Mon, 28 Oct 2002 22:21:26 +0100

ErrCode   = -62
ErrString = Bad SMTP response
SMAIL SMTP-Send MX = mta.21cn.com. SMTP = moebius From =

SMTP-Error = 500 error

[05] Here is listed the initial part of the message:

Received: from dbob (211.38.33.197)

--

Is there any body using my server as an open relay?

How can I fix that problems?

By the way, I´ve installed the 1.11 version few days ago, and it runs OK
(the only problem is the related before)

Thanks and excuse me for my English.

[xmail] custdomains and filters

2002-10-29 Thread Bhugel-Xmailserver \(E-mail\)

Question:
Can domains which are defined under custdomains to forward to an SMTP also
have a filter defined?

My situation is that I would like to have xmail not only forward mail to a
domain defined custdomains, but also use something like xscanner to filter
email with certain contents from being delivered.

I tried to put two additional lines into my domain.com.tab file which is
located in the custdomains directory. Those lines were:
c:\xscanner\xscanner.exe c:\xscanner @@FILE@@FROM
@@RCPT
wait 10

but it did not seem to work. On other domains, when I have these two lines
in the domain.com.tab file in the filters directory, it works currectly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance..

Sure ! Based on a domain :
In custdomains
domainname.tab

In filters
domainname.tab (my settings)

C:\System\X-Mail\xscanner\xscanner.exe[TAB]C:\System\X-Mail\xscanner[TAB

Works perfect... All mail comes into xmail - it is checked with f.i.
xscanner - and relay to other mail-server.

I just did this, and noticed something odd.. Aside from a message being sent

[xmail] Return Receipts hanging up in users outbox?

2002-10-29 Thread William

I have looked at the email headers and don't see a reason for them to get
stuck in the users outbox, but for some reason if the user says YES to

the whole client (in terms of sending outgoing msg's).

Anyone else come across this? Is this a config error on my part somehow???

Thanks!

Subject: [xmail] Re: Return Receipts hanging up in users outbox?

Sorry for the re-post, looking at Eudora as a client, I see a temporary file
created like so:

C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1.FMF\LOCALS~1\Temp\rr89E.tmp;

and wonder if this is the issue. I also noticed that the TO address is in
left and right carets, but that is email-legal I believe(?)
---

I have looked at the email headers and don't see a reason for them to get
stuck in the users outbox, but for some reason if the user says YES to
return receipt notification request, it just sits in the outbox and hangs
the whole client (in terms of sending outgoing msg's).

Anyone else come across this? Is this a config error on my part somehow???

Thanks!

2002-10-29 Thread Bill Healy

Well I think it's been established that null sender should be enabled.
So change it and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't then that
has atleast been fixed and other potential sources of the problem can be
looked into.

That breaks everything and potentially can disrupt the entire
Internet. It is considered such a serious offense by mail admins that
there is even a blacklist for it: dsn.rfc-ignorant.org. Practically it
means your server will not be informed for many legitimate reasons.

I had no idea it was important. Still though, with a sender address I dont
see how it would fix this particular problem, since it is not a null
address...

[xmail] Re: SMTP and POP welcome string

2002-10-29 Thread co

But this is how the SMTP server reacts :

220 [EMAIL PROTECTED] [XMail 1.10 (Linux/Ix86) ESMTP
Server] servi
ce ready; Sun, 20 Oct 2002 14:31:30 +0200

I also have the domain lindeman.org but where does XMail get this string
from ?

R I believe it does a reverse lookup on the IP address.

Can i disable the feature that it is looking up the IP adress and
instead use the domain name entered in server.tab?

When i am running checks i get a message about that the local name is
a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 ??

I am not using SMTP-RDNSCheck and i have not set a
SMTPdefaultgateways. But when i set them it made no diffrence in the
welcome string...

Thanks, Christian Otrel [EMAIL PROTECTED]
