[xmail] Re: new xmail user and problem with syslog

2003-02-12 Thread SysLamer

Well , i looked in $MAILROOT/logs and examined a lot of logs
files .. there are 5 types :
1) ctrl-*
2) finger-*
3) pop3-*
4) smail-*
5) smtp-*

then i printed the document on line at eyecatcher
http://xmail.eye-catcher.com/products/XMail/LogFiles/index.asp
and now i'm able to understand the log messages ...

but what about start messages, stop messages, error messages, etc...
that as stated in readme.txt
http://www.xmailserver.org/Readme.txt

are logged via syslog(3) ??

I cannot execute bash scripts registered in mailproc.tab and so borned
my interest in XMail error logs ..
and .bat scripts on NT4 .

I'm not clever with NT but a bit more with linux is there
someone who knows the problem ?? please !!!

Take a look at the $MAIL_ROOT/logs directory ...

as long as filtering can be done at any level either incoming or outcoming
with any kind of script or executable the solution you choose will be fine
with me :-)

[xmail] XMail XP

2003-02-12 Thread pschranz

Dear XMail Group,

I am trying to start XMail on a XP SP1 machine but am having difficulties.

I have successfully ran XMail (ver 1.12) as a service on a Win2k machine using
the binary located at www.xmailserver.org. This same binary does not start
properly on the XP SP1 machine. I get a pop-up dialog saying the service
starts and then stops right away.

I built the XMail app from ver 1.12 source on a Win2k machine using
MS VS C++ 6.0. But this application also does not start. I get the same pop-
up dialog.

I rebuilt the application as a normal application, not a service, and tried
running it from the command line. The command line returned right away.

I used the --debug switch on the Win2k service app and ran it from the command
line, but it also returned right away.

We don't have our dev tools installed on the XP machine. Do we need to build
on XP to run on XP?

Any helpful comments?

Thanks,
Paul

[xmail] CustMapList

2003-02-12 Thread Peter Lindeman

Hello,

Right now it is possible to use CustMapList to block messages through
open spamlist but this then is enabled for the whole server. Will it be
possible to do this on a per user base in the future ?

Sorry!

My mistake. I missed a level in the registry. I inserted the keys under GNU
instead of GNU/XMail

Thanks Davide! The Event Viewer helped.

Did you follow the configuration instructions contained inside the doc
 ?
Did you look at the Event Viewer ?

[xmail] Re: Webmail List

2003-02-12 Thread Andrew Joakimsen

Squirrelmail requires IMAP, but if you like it you might want to use
SmartPost, I belive that webmail is based on SM, but it is more integrated
with XMail.

Otherwise, if you want to use your server the way it is without
modifications, UebiMiau is the way to go.

Hi:
Is XMail compatible with Sqwebmail (the one which comes with courier
mail server)?
What other webmail systems can you recommend?
Thanks,

Leonardo

Yikes! Don't let Chandu know about this one. Here's from his FAQ on
Smartpost:

*Q3. Why another Webbased Interface, why not squirrelmail ? *
I hate squirrel mail, I really hate it.
It's bulky, complex, slow ugly.
Also If i use squirrelmail, I have to again edit code
of squirrelmail to add features like change password,
Show % of Quota used etc, Fowarding etc. So I started
writing my own.. I used some code from http://ecorrei.sourceforge.net/

Regards,

Brandon

If you set the drop code to zero, users can override the block using
authentication. If you're talking about external traffic coming in, and
you want selectively enable the block depending on the recipient, no it's
not possible and I'm not planning it. With the new filter architecture
though, you will have the sender IP, and you will be able to perform the
map check from inside and inbound filter.

I indeed meant the second option. Ok, I'll wait for the new filter
architecture and will try to write a filter then.
