[xmail] Filters
In my filters directory I have a file named mydomain.tab (and email.mydomain.tab) that loks like this: d:\mail\filters\test.vbs @@FILE However, this doesn't seem to work. Nothing happens. I have tried running test.vbs manually, and it works the way it should (just write a testfile). I've also set proper permissions on the folder so it shouldn't be problem. Even gave full access to everybody for testing. As you might have guessed, this is XMail on a Win2k server. Does anyone know why my filter is not running? - Jørn - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line unsubscribe xmail in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line help in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[xmail] Problem with this list ?
Hello Davide I am a subscriber to the xmail and xmail-announce lists From jan 25, 2003 04h51, time of last mail received from xmail list, I didn't receive any more mail from this list ... I run a stats command on list xmail, result : NOT subscribed ! I run a stats on list xmail-announce, result : subscribed So i subscribed again on xmail list Any apparent reason of this suddently 'unsubscribe' ? [xmail] Features request for 1.14final or 1.15 (long )!!!
Hi Davide and people, It seems that my struggle was fruitful, soon xmail will replace 2 sendmail and 2 exchange server faily loaded ( over 280 domains and approx 16000 e-mail addrs). Now everything is fine and dandy, xmail behaved excellent on different tortures, from mail-bombs to simulated network problems. And I have to mention again that the new filter framework proved to be extremely robust and simple to use if not as feature full as sendmail's libmilter, but it does what we need it to do. Here is a short description of a real world situation: customer A wants to host 4 domains: 1 domain gold with maximum 1000 accounts, 2 domains silver with 400 accounts and one domain bronze with 50 accounts , each domain with its own quota, same gose for customer B that has another set of domains with different parameters. Now from the existing features of xmail I'm able to do everything except for these things: -Limitation of maximum number of accounts ( and possibly aliases) per domain, this feature is essential for a commercial success of xmail and I belive it will make xmail the dear of small ISPs. -A method to have an intermediate level between full server administrator that can create/delete domains at will and postmaters that are restricted inside of a domain, some kind of demi-gods that are allowed create a limited and configurale number of domains with predefined restrictions like domain quota and max number of accounts and max number of aliases. This demigods will have to be defined in the same TAB that now keep server admins or in a separate TAB. - Priviledge separation between domain creators, like once a demigod created a domain this becomes his only to meta-administrate ( override postmaster tasks and delete domain) that domain. His priviledges must not extend over some other people domains even if is capable to delete/rename/create domains of its own within the constraints of his definiton. Of corse server admin will keep full override rights over ALL domains. - The posibility to add new variables in domain TAB definitons ( and even in the users ones ) in the form of name/value pairs to be able store comments and stuff not directly related to server operatins, like comments and accounting info. I know that all those could be implemented in some middleware sitting between xmail control channel and configuration/administration application but I'd really like to see at least accounts nummber restriction and generic variables in the main distribution. If some of the thing I've listed above can be done in the already existing xmail, excuse my blindness in reading the docs and help me see the light :-) with some examples. Davide if you are not interested about these features plese helpme at last with some insightfull ideeas of where is the best way to name/place those variables to be consistent with the existing naming/organization conventions and I'll try to do the programming as much as possible. Of course if you or anybody else have some patches related to that features lingerin somewhere I'll be more than happy to test them and help debug/finish them. Actually you can handle these jobs through one of the many web-admin interfaces to Xmail; I built myself one of these interfaces in ASP, but there are many others (e.g. XMAIL-WAI if you are in a Windows server and XPAI in PHP) At 17.04 11/03/2003 +0200, you wrote: Hi Davide and people, It seems that my struggle was fruitful, soon xmail will replace 2 sendmail and 2 exchange server faily loaded ( over 280 domains and approx 16000 e-mail addrs). Hello, I think that these things can be on middleware layer. As someone already told, I wrote XMail-WAI (http://www.altair2000.net/software/xmail-wai/), which allows generally what you requested (only it can't limit number of accounts created). User variables are already present in XMail. -- Michal 'Altair' Valasek [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** New project: http://weblog.rider.cz *** I've been wrestling with reality most of my life. [xmail] XMail-WAI.NET features discussion
Hello, as I announced before, I discontinued XMail-WAI and I'm planning new version, which would be built on the .NET technology (mainly ASP.NET). Currently, there is finished XMail-CTRL, universal module for = communication with XMail using it's CTRL protocol. I am sending you list of planned features, for discussion. Also, I am accepting offers for help with implementation of features. The project = would be distributed in Visual Studio .NET, used language would be VB.NET, = license used would be GNU GPL. The main features of XMail-WAI would be in the .NET version too, with exception of webmail (I'll discuss that later). Generally, it would = allow distribution of privileges on server/domain/user levels. New features = would include: - Possibility to limit account creation per domain, either by maximum = number or by assigning the total amount of disk space. - Better cooperation (with the new filtering system), which would allow things like autoresponders etc. to work. - Speed optimization. Current version is too slow, due to ctrlclnt.exe. = It can be better if rewritten to Shawn's eyeXMail. The features which would not be in the .NET version (although some of = them are in the current version): - SLIM collaboration. I see that SLIM (my list manager) is ugly. Do you = know about some list manager, which would run on Windows platform and would, = work well with xmail, be free, preferably open-source, and not require third-party software, such as Perl or Cygwin? If yes, I'll use it and = write it's support to XMail-WAI.NET. If no, I'll consider writing of SLIM.NET, which is long-term task. - Multi-language interface. I wrote about this recently - writing multi-language interface is a lot harder that the single-language one. Moreover, there is problem with further development, to maintain the language data files. Therefore, the XMail-WAI.NET would be in English = only. As it would use UNICODE, there should not be problem with non-ASCII characters (but I cannot guarantee languages like chinese to work). - Webmail. To write webmail is not a simple task and I don't have time = to do it well. So, there would be no webmail in the first stage. - Frozen messages management. Since XMail has option to simply discard undeliverable messages, I started to use it and don't bother with frozen messages anymore. - The strange things like pop3link etc. I am not using it, never was, = never will, don't know how it's working. What I need: - Your suggestions, what the XMail-WAI.NET should do. - Your help with programming, mainly on the abstraction layer (see = lower), but everything. Currently, the XMail-CTRL is working on the CTRL layer, so it returns = values withount any abstraction as array of string. I want to write something = with current codename XAL (XMail Abstraction Layer, compare with HAL - = Hardware Abstraction Layer), which would convert Xmails CTRL output to .NET = native formats, like datasets properly typed for databinding, etc. It's = relatively simple work, but the main problem for me, because I don't have enough = time :-( -- Michal A.
