Ok, I'm back finally. My mailbox was overflowing and I did panic and nuked
everything in there. Everything urgent that didn't get answered should be

Davide,

Any chance you would consider adding a log for filters? Just something like
what filter was launched and what the return code was. To be honest this
would make developing and debugging filters a lot easier.

Thanks
Shawn

[xmail] Wish list: blacklist ability for FQDN (RDNS) and HELO/EHLO name

2003-08-19 Thread Tracy
Greetings,

I'd like to submit the following wish for consideration in a future version.

I'd like to have the ability to blacklist particular HELO/EHLO names, and
the ability to blacklist FQDN names that result from RDNS lookup.

For example, if I receive a connection from 64.57.75.152, when the RDNS
check is done, it resolves to bilbo.abswaras.com. However, instead of
having to look up every IP address on every hosting site that these people
may be on, I'd like to be able to ESPAM any connection from
abswaras.com. (Oh, and it might be worth swapping the order of the RDNS
check and the DNSBL check - would potentially save some lookups on remote
networks that way...)

Same kind of check against HELO/EHLO names - if a site HELOs with, for
instance, aol.com (legitimate connections from AOL have HELO names such as
imo-m06.mx.aol.com - never just aol.com alone), I'd like to be able to
ESPAM that connection.

The FQDN check against the RDNS of the connecting IP is fairly simple to
implement, and can actually be implemented using the spam-address.tab,
although it would probably be preferable to use a different tab, since
wildcarding might inadvertantly match legitimate email addresses. The HELO
test can also be done against spam-address.tab, but is even more prone to
inadvertanty catching legitimate email addresses.

So, what do you think?

BTW, I know that all the spammer has to do is change the name they are
HELOing with, or move to a different host for the FQDN check. But I'd
rather have the ability to do this than to depend on the addresses
magically making it into a DNSBL or some other test (over which I have no
control) Besides, local blacklisting can be accomplished much faster
than waiting for someone who's running a DNSBL to add a listing.

Tracy

[xmail] Question to Davide: 3rd party files in XMail structure [repost]

2003-08-19 Thread michal.valasek

Hello,

I have question to Davide, as author: what do you think about third party
files in XMail folder structure?

I would need for my WAI to store some user data, which are too big for user
variables (ie. text for autoresponder or signature). So, my idea is that I
would write the text to some file, ie.
%MAILROOT%\domains\domain.tld\user\autoreply.wai and use it.

What do you think about this idea, also with your future plans of further
development of XMail? What filenames should be used etc?

Another solution is that I would manage my own independent data store. The
main problem here is with deleted users and/or domains. When someone would
delete user or domain other way than trough my interface, the supporting
data files would not be deleted etc.

Something like :

%MAILROOT%\domains\domain.tld\user\not-xmail\autoreply.wai

would work better.

2003-08-19 Thread Liam MacKenzie

I've got to wait for my friends at xname.org to restart named :-)
They do it hourly.

And yes, I probably should get rid of that * record...
Does it even work?

well - i think it looks good - even the * record and CNAMES are evil,
but not better to be solved for a dyndns-host ;-)

$ dig @ns0.xname.org mx in gzd.com.au | grep MX
;gzd.com.au.IN MX
gzd.com.au. 86400 IN MX 10 216.130.186.132.

restarted named ?
