in the last couple of days we've found our XMAIL (v1.17 on freebsd) server has stopped accepting connections -- its still running, and a top shows it redline'd at 99% cpu utilization i've done a truss -p on it to see what its doing, and this is what i found today clues? hints? gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe020)= 134976512 (0x80b9400) SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe014)= 134966272 (0x80b6c00) SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe014)= 134973440 (0x80b8800) SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe014)ERR#672534332 'Unknown error: 672534332' SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe014)= 134944196 (0x80b15c4) SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe014)ERR#672534332 'Unknown error: 672534332' SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe014)= 672534332 (0x28160f3c) SIGNAL 27 SIGNAL 27 gettimeofday(0x28160ea8,0x0) = 0 (0x0) sigreturn(0xbf8fe018)= 134966272 (0x80b6c00) SIGNAL 27 - [EMAIL PROTECTED]BackPack Software, Inc.www.backpack.com +1 651.645.7550 voice "Life is an Adventure. +1 651.645.9798 faxDon't forget your BackPack!" - - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[xmail] Re: "receipts" on Microsoft Outloook
Our company uses Outlook with xmail (directly and indirectly via = exchange server for internal accounts) without any problems about receipts confirmations ... Can you explain more about the symptom ... Is your customer receive any error ? Is your customer outlook behind an exchange server ? or a direct xmail = user ? Do you have any filter installed on xmail ? What exactly the user is trying to do and/or expect ? Note that xmail by itself don't generate any 'delivered' reports except = then it have trouble sending a mail (in this case the sending user will have = a email in is pop3 account saying 'unable to send ... host not found' or similar reports). Recept confimations (and read confirmations) are special message = headers in the header part of the message (after the DATA smtp session), not in = the smtp session. And xmail don't care about the data section contain. Some others MTA send by themself 'delivery confirmation' (exchange have = this option on by default but can be disabled, lotus, ntmail, ...) but in = most cases this kind of confirmation is to be handled finally by the mua and = the end user (outlook express and outlook that have three options to handle requests for receipt or read confirmations : never send, ask, allways = send recept or read confirmations). Some others mua simply don't care about = these headers and never send back a confirmation. Keed in mind that on mta that can handle them, most admins disable this feature (especialy isp's) to reduce traffic and to let final user to = choice send or not them ... Keep also in mind that some admins disable mta to send backup any = delivery error reports () admin choice ... customer choice ... reduce = traffic ... With current smtp standard, a sending user can't be garanted that its = mail was finaly received and/or read. There is not 'obligation' (is this the correct english term ...) to = return receipts. Only do your best ... (and i think it is better ... think = about viruses and others spammers that will received confirmations, and so = knowing the address really exist !!!) There is a solution. I believe someone on the mailing list already had courier = >working with XMail in some way. > =20 > I had a look to the sourcecode of xmail today and tried around a bit=20 with xmail and with courier. The problem is not that courier is not working. The problem is that=20 courier replaces LF with CRLF for sending. This results in CRCRLF which causes problems with some mail = clients. It seems there's no easy solution for my problem: * XMail uses very efficient code to send a mail because it can send=20 mails as they are. It's maybe a lot of work to add CR/LF transformation :( * the Courier people will definitely not change the file format that is = used The only thing i could do is to migrate fully to courier. But that's bad = because i like the way xmail is designed and it works very well since a long time. What do you think how much work it would be to add (optional) CR/LF=20 transformation to xmail? How many things must be changed? Would a modified SysDepLinux.cpp do the thing? In that case at least=20 some SmtpServer code (the part that receives/writes a mail) must be modified to access system = dependend code. Hope you can help me. Thanks a lot.
