Xdmx issues

2010-06-28 Thread Nijveen, Harm
Hi,

I am trying to get Xdmx working on a 12 screens/3machines setup and came across
some problems.

Using the "xorg-x11-server-extra" package in OpenSuse 11.3 RC1 (X11R7.5) I do
get Xdmx running together with Gnome and using Xinerama. However, when a window
is dragged across a screen boundary the window does not get redrawn (it turns
grey), unless the screen boundary is between two screens attached to different
PCs. Any ideas where to look for a solution? Is this a Xinerama problem?

The right two colums of the 4x3 setup show strange distortions, like parts of
windows from previous Xdmx sessions or a black and white diagonal banding
pattern. It looks like uninitialized memory is being displayed. This already
happens if I run gnome with Xdmx on one machine using four screens, but not
when I run gnome directly with the local X server. How can I debug this further?

Another issue involves a segfault of Xdmx when starting Glx programs, like
glxgears, glxinfo etc.:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x005abdb2 in __glXGetVisualConfigs (cl=0x9fbbf0, pc=0x9f57c0
"\214\016\002") at glxcmds.c:1546
1546reply.numVisuals = pGlxScreen->numGLXVisuals;
(gdb) bt
#0 0x005abdb2 in __glXGetVisualConfigs (cl=0x9fbbf0, pc=0x9f57c0
"\214\016\002") at glxcmds.c:1546
#1 0x005a50e7 in __glXDispatch (client=0x9f5420) at glxext.c:460
#2 0x0053d7e6 in Dispatch () at dispatch.c:445
#3 0x0052f03e in main (argc=7, argv=0x7fffe458,
envp=0x7fffe498) at main.c:285
(gdb) print pGlxScreen
$1 = (__GLXscreenInfo *) 0x0

It looks like a X_GLXGetVisualConfigs request is recieved and handled, but
glxInitVisuals was never called and so "pGlxScreen =
&__glXActiveScreens[screen];" returns 0.
Any ideas how to get around this? I really would like to be able run OpenGL
applications using Xdmx and Chromium, but that is not possible right now.

SiS troubles xorg

2010-06-28 Thread Roland Miyamoto

Dear xorg community,

Trying to set up Gentoo on an Epson Endeavor PT-2100

  http://www2.ttcn.ne.jp/~TATSUYUKI-SATO/rpc-pt2100.htm

and I've been stuck with setting up the X server for weeks now.

  Card: SiS 630/730
Monitor: 15" TFT XGA 1024x768 True Color

startx enters graphics mode without much complaint, but the graphics
screen is condensed horizontally to about one third and moved to the
right so that I see about half of the screen on the very left edge of my
monitor, flickering, unreadable. The rest, about five sixth of my
monitor stays black. Sorry, don't own a digicam, so can't send a photo.

My xorg.conf is this:

  http://math.usask.ca/~auer/gentoo/xorg.conf

X's answer in Xorg.0.log reads

  http://math.usask.ca/~auer/gentoo/Xorg.0.log

Tried 800x600 and 640x480, too, mostly with DefaultDepth 24 and with all
kinds of ranges for HorizSync and VertRefresh. Never obtain anything
like a recognisable graphics screen. After so many attempts I am about
to give up. Please help.

As you can see, I have also tried to tamper with the modes.
What is the Option "InternalModes" for? Do I have to switch it off, in
order to push my own mode.

sisfb and fb0 are modules rather than built into the linux kernel.

Does the line
(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)
indicate anything critical?

What does the warning
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for sis
mean?

It seems, that SiS recognizes my TFT monitor
  (--) SIS(0): Detected LCD/plasma panel (1024x768, 12, non-exp., RGB18
[c2e7ff])
But what does "12, non-exp., RGB18 [c2e7ff]" mean? Is the color depth 12
or 18 rather than 24?

And why does SiS spell out the modes
  (**) SIS(0): *Default mode "1024x768" (1024x768) (For CRT device:
65.1 MHz, 48.5 kHz, 60.1 Hz)

as if my monitor were a CRT?

So many questions. Any clue?

  Thanks in advance, Roland

Well, they are not saying that to regular users ;)

It's a known bug, which has been solved in a git commitment: if you *really*
need the ability from your drivers, you'll have to install from git. Otherwise
you'll have to wait for the new release.

Not optimal, stil the only options though

Fwd: Questions about xinput calibrator

2010-06-28 Thread Nathan Coulson
I was working with a linux user who uses Puppy Linux Quirky 1.2 and
wished to hook it up to touchscreens.  We were experimenting with
xinput calibrator, but he advised me that the screen is not calibrated
after using it (I did note that the values given by
xinput_calibrator_x86 did change.  Originally it was 0 to 16384 on
x/y, and after it was around the 5000-15000 mark (approx).  Just to
make sure, I did make xorg flip the axis around since x/y axis were
inverted.

I was not able to find much information on the xinput calibrator other
then the homepage
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xinput_calibrator,

Thank you.
