It works with mesa 7.5. Since xf86-video-intel-2.7.1 worked fine with
mesa 7.3 I guess you can say that 2.8 not only requires xorg 1.6 but
mesa 7.5 as well.

btw it's working great now with kernel 2.6.30 and KMS only 3d
performance is still low. but i dont know wether its the driver or the
chip itself.

xf86-video-intel 2.8 3d not working at all

2009-07-22 Thread Daniel Gultsch
Hi guys,

I upgraded from intel-2.7.1 to 2.8 and now 3d isnt working at all.
When I start glxgears i get a black window and the following output

> glxgears
unhandled buffer attach event, attacment type 7
unhandled buffer attach event, attacment type 7
unhandled buffer attach event, attacment type 7
unhandled buffer attach event, attacment type 7
unhandled buffer attach event, attacment type 7
4742 frames in 5.0 seconds = 948.366 FPS
4706 frames in 5.0 seconds = 940.923 FPS

it even shows a framerate but the window is still black (and it doesnt
sync to vblank)

Kernel ist 2.6.29.3
xorg ist 1.6.2

I switched to Kernel 2.6.29.3 (with the Patch for tiled front buffers)
and Intel 2.7.1

Without KMS it works just fine. Never had this 2D and 3D performance
before.
With KMS it boots perfectly to KDM. Without flickering and stuff. But
when i start KDE the old bug

appeared again. Secure mode (xterm) was in in the right resolution but i
could see any characters. (Strong display errors in the bottom half of
the screen)

Problems with KMS

2009-04-30 Thread Daniel Gultsch
Hi,

i'm using Gentoo with Kernel 2.6.29 and xorg-server 1.5.3
Yesterday I've start trying KMS.
This are my results: When enabled I always got a nice framebuffer
console in my native resolution. (adding i915.modeset=1 as a kernel
parameter)
When in use with intel driver 2.6.3 my kde had a wrong (lower)
resolution. I think it was like 1024 for my 1440 screen or so. This of
course caused the screen to flicker when switching from framebuffer
console to KDM. When I started KDE it crashed the xserver (freezed) as
soon as the loading screen from kde was at 100%. When I started the
secure mode in KDM (only a xterm) I could set the native resolution
with xrandr to 1440px. Then I got display errors (The 1024px screen was
repated to the left and the bottom) BUT i could switch from framebuffer
to Xorg without flicker: YEAH!
Then I tried 2.7.0: Without KMS I got a blank screen when x started.
With KMS I got very havy display errors. (Turning the display into
something pink-i-can-barly-see-that-it's-kdm)

status of xvmc

2009-04-12 Thread Daniel Gultsch
Hi,

i'm playing around with XvMC on my intel 4500MHD and I noticed that it
only supports MPEG2. Is this right? Or am i just doing it wrong? So
what are the plans? Will it support x264 more or less soon?
And what about the Video Acceleration API? I read about it on
wikipedia.
Thanks for some input.

Xinerama like behavior with xrandr

2009-03-11 Thread Daniel Gultsch
Hi,

I've finaly decided to get myself a new external Monitor for my
Thinkpad. I want to use it like xinerame does. (different resolutions
for internal and external and different screens and apps like the kicker
under kde going only over one of the monitors. and when I maximize one
window I only want to have it on one of the screen) But Xinerama is
deprecated now and I want to use xrandr. xrandr in clone mode works
just fine, but when i use left-of or below I have ONE big screen with
windows going along both of them.
How can I use xrandr in a xinerama like enviroment?

I have Gentoo with intel driver 2.5.1 and xinerama use flag turned of.

will the tearing issue be fixed in 2.7.0? I've read about waiting for
vblank in the changelog but I'm not sure if this will fix it. Could
somebody confirm this please?

Thanks

P.S: Most importantly: will it be fixed on X4500MHD?

I cant answer the other questions but this one.
DisplayPort is already supported. If you do xrandr --query you see
HDMI-1 (name can differ on your system) which is the Displayport.
I have a DisplayPort on my X301 and I used it to connect to my plasma
tv (of course with an DP->HDMI adaptor)

Thanks alot for the answer. But once again just to be sure:

Is this a hardware problem or a software/driver problem? Can the
(hardware) chip actually to this overlay stuff?

I mean this thing is called 4500 _HD_ and it has a DisplayPort (HDMI).
One major reason for me buying an Intel GMA was the supposed good linux
driver support and the HD support.
But since both of the reasons turned out to be wrong (at least for the
moment?) I'm really thinking about returning the notebook.

I guess you're longer reading this newsgroup so do you, by chance, know
for what release the Video overlay support is planed? 2.7 maybe? or
rather 5.3 (which will be released in 10 years when nobody is actually
using this card anymore)

What does
xvinfo | grep -i Adaptor
reports?
If it reports something like Intel Video Overlay you can just tell
mplayer to use the second adaptor (Video Overlay) and all your problems
are gone. (You can either tell mplayer or tell xorg.conf to prefer
Video Overlay)
If you have only Textured Overlay then you're traped. You will have the
same bug as I do: No Video Overlay for some reason.

No video overlay on Intel X4500HD

2009-01-14 Thread Daniel Gultsch
Hi Guys,

My major problem is that i dont have the "Intel(R) Video Overlay" but
only the "Intel(R) Textured Video" - as reported by xvinfo | grep -i
adaptor. This causes tearing and i really need to watch movies :-)

Another problem which i think is somehow connected is that i don't have
opengl or glx or whatever (I cant tell the difference. No 3D)
However glxgears runs only once in a x session. It runs again (once) if
i restart Xorg. From the second run it only reports:
"Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual"

Ok I will now give you some system information:

I tried the 2.5.1-r1 Version of the driver (form gentoo) as well as the
latest from intel 2.5.99-2

mesa and libdrm are from gentoo
x11-libs/libdrm-2.4.3

It's a ThinkPad X301 with the Intel GMA X4500HD

glxinfo:
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2

and it keeps reporting Yes even if glxgear isn't running anymore

grep -i drm /usr/src/linux/.config
CONFIG_DRM=y

Is this the right module? There is no such thing is drm_intel or
