the patch in 20500 can do with some more testing and review, like any patch.
I simply haven't found the time yet. I'm also pretty sure that RECORD was
broken to some extend for quite a while now, but restoring the pre-XI2 stage
would be sufficient for now.

As a (gentoo) user who is very interested in RECORD, what can be done
to help out?  From the bug report [0] it appears that RECORD is
somewhat working.  (Which is better than today's current state).

Another rather small release and I expect 1.7.5 to be quite similar to this
one. RECORD doesn't look like it'll make it in time for 1.7.5, so expect
some minor fixes only for the release in two weeks.
