A similar bug (http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22831) disappears after upgrading mesa from 7.4.4 to 7.5. I'd try running it under this first and see if it addresses your problem. :) FWIW, running fine on a 945 here (kernel 2.6.30 was a *big* step forward for me. I never tried older versions, though (read: I didn't manage to get a usable Xserver using UXA with older versions).
