https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35452 --- Comment #5 from dark_m...@gmx.net 2011-04-05 15:59:59 PDT --- I can confirm that this patch solves a different issue regarding fullscreen flash video (posted it on the gentoo bugtracker). https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359569 I haven't found the proposed patch in the freedesktop git repo. Is the patch production-grade or a quick fix? In the former case intagrating it would be pretty nice. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36007 --- Comment #6 from Alex Deucher 2011-04-05 15:47:53 PDT --- (In reply to comment #5) > Is it possible that the drm driver leaves the system in a state that could > cause subsequent modules to fail loading? It shouldn't. Also, the crashes are happening before the radeon driver has even finished loading. You might want to check if there is a problem with the mtrrs or pat setup on that kernel. I recall similar issues years ago with toshiba laptops caused by the bios setting up the mtrrs wrong. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36005 --- Comment #5 from Alex Deucher 2011-04-05 15:03:35 PDT --- Most likely this is upowerd or keventd polling the outputs using randr at 30 second intervals looking for a monitor. If nothing is connected, load detection will be attempted which on analog outputs which can cause a flicker. They shouldn't be doing that as the kms drm will automatically generate events when outputs are connected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36005 --- Comment #4 from Bryce Harrington 2011-04-05 15:02:22 PDT --- Several other people claim to have the same issue. All remark that they did not have the issue on maverick but have on natty. Of those, several have tested with turning KMS off via radeon.modeset=0 and found that made the flickering go away, but led to some other issues. One of these other people adds these test findings: Silvio-frishi on 3/26: """ I have the same problem on natty64 with VGA video projectors. I tested it with two computers with two different drivers (xf86-video-ati, xf86-video-nouveau). I tested it with three different video projector. I tested it with three different VGA cables. I tested it with kernels 2.6.35, 2.6.37, 2.6.38 I tested it with libdrm(i.e. libkms) 2.4.21, 2.4.23 (remark here i didn't reboot) And it always flickered (with exception 3. projector see below). Remark with two of three projectors I used addmode since the drivers didn't recognize the native resolution of the beamer. Everything always worked well if I used my old Gentoo (2.6.33 - but with KMS,ati and with addmode) With the 3. projector in natty it worked properly because it recognized the native resolution. But if I added an other resolution to it and changed to that it flickered again. so it's possible It has some thing to do with --addmode I think this worked on Maverik but I'm not sure since I didn't use --addmode much """ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36003 --- Comment #7 from Bryce Harrington 2011-04-05 14:44:06 PDT --- Others who are reporting as having the same bug indicate that there is a bit of a race condition and sometimes the system loads with the radeon drm driver, sometimes with intel: >From Johan Fornander: """ I have a theory... Maybe there is a race condition between the intel and ati driver involved here? My notebook starts up in two seemingly random configurations, or three including the radeon crash: 1. X server is on VT8 -> unable to unload radeon module because it is in use (by some framebuffer I guess). I am also unable to switch to consoles VT1-7. If I use vga_switcheroo to switch to integrated gpu in this mode then radeon crashes. 2. X server is on VT7 -> I can unload the radeon module and use the consoles VT1-6. vga_switcheroo works and I can also use acpi calls to turn off the gpu. 3. The radeon driver crashes. Forcing reboot through RSEIUB. This makes it difficult to control the temperature since I cannot know if the radeon module is in use or not (i.e. I might or might not be able to use the vga_switcheroo, or unload the module and use a specific acpi call to shut of the gpu). In fact, right now, I've been probing the quad pipe message and it seems to vary. The last two boots with 2.6.38-2 kernel lead to a reported number of 3. After the resume the number remains 3: $ dmesg | grep quad [9.554083] [drm] radeon: 3 quad pipes, 1 z pipes initialized. [ 173.492317] [drm] radeon: 3 quad pipes, 1 z pipes initialized. [Bug 35994] New: HP LP2465 screen is cutting in and out after upgrade to linux 2.6.28
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35994 Summary: HP LP2465 screen is cutting in and out after upgrade to linux 2.6.28 Product: xorg Version: 7.5 Platform: Other OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Driver/Radeon AssignedTo: xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org ReportedBy: twhiteh...@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-t...@lists.x.org I have a HP/Compaq 8501w with a "ATI Technologies Inc M76 [Radeon Mobility HD2600 Series]" graphics card. It has a HDMI port on the side of it which I use to plug into a DVI monitor at home and work via a HDMI to DVI cable. I was running linux 2.6.28 patched with - bdd91b2b and fb939dfc (to fix 31339), and - a0ae5864 (to fix 18564). I upgraded to 2.6.38 and, while my monitor at home continues to work okay, my monitor at work now has flickering black lines and it cuts in and out to a black screen. I did diffs of the kernel logs, xorg logs, and xrandr --verbose outputs, but nothing seemed to indicate any significant difference. Finally, I - checkout out the 2.6.38 kernel from git, - reverted to bdd91b2b (the first version that had all the above patches), and - discovered that it also had these problems, so I - did a bisect on any changes that touched the radeon directory between that and 2.6.26 (cherry picking bdd91b2b, fb939dfc, and a0ae5864 as required), and - this pointed to 48dfaaeb (drm/radeon/kms: remove new pll algo). I then did some verification of this by - attempting to revert 48dfaaeb on top of 2.6.38. However, this failed as it was not clean and I was not sure of my corrections, so I instead - reverted it on top of bdd91b2b (the first version that had all the above patches) which produced a driver that worked fine with both monitors. I presume this then means my monitor at work is having an issue with the pll settings the old new pll algorithm is generating. I don't know what information would be helpful for resolving this though, so I'll just attach - the kernel logs, - the xorg logs, and - the xrandr --verbose logs for my original patched and working 2.6.36 kernel and the non-working 2.6.38 (although I couldn't see any significant differences in these). Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide. Thanks! -Tyson -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati
Bug#620858: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: slow overall performance upon wake-up from suspend

The latter can't really be true like that, as the number of pipe quads is only probed and printed at initialization and resume time. > So, this is rather strange. Using both vblank_mod=0 and SwapbuffersWait -> False, framerate drops dramatically after resuming, causing a very unresponsive system. Even sometimes when typing there is a noticeable delay between keystrokes and actual text displayed. I don't know if the quad pipe issue is related anymore: $ dmesg | grep quad [6.615793] [drm] radeon: 3 quad pipes, 1 z pipes initialized. (booting) [ 386.543044] [drm] radeon: 3 quad pipes, 1 z pipes initialized. (after resuming from suspend) Sometimes it changes, sometimes it doesn't... I would stick with current testing versions X, mesa and kernel (which don't seem to have this issue), but my touchpad gets out of sync and lags and it's just not usable... I guess I'll wait for llvm to be enabled in gallium and try again.. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati

With a vanilla 2.6.37.6 kernel (using debian config file to compile + two cpu customizations) the quad number is generally reported as 3, but goes to 1 upon resuming from suspend. With kernel 2.6.38-2 from debian main, quad seems to be 1, but after resuming it goes to 3. ___ xorg-driver-ati mailing list xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati

You can also disable tear-free buffer swaps by adding: Option "SwapbuffersWait" "FALSE" to the device section of your xorg.conf. That coupled with vblank_mode=0 should give you maximum framerates at the expense of tearing. Does the slowness correspond to the number being reported as 1? I've just checked this. Yes, it's slow when the number is reported as 1 (which happens both waking up from suspend, and when using vblank_mod=0). Thanks for looking into this.
